I think it would be great is PSU joined the BE instead of the Big 10. For starters, the Big 10 could finally get their math straight and have 10 teams. PSU, because of its history and fans, would add credibility to a conference that needs it right now. It would strengthen the BE's chances of holding on to a BCS bid in the future. It would bring the PSU/Pitt rivalry back into play, as well as the PSU/WVU game.

I think it would also be good for PSU. You can't win a national title unless you win a conference title first. They would win more games in the BE and ultimately go back to filling their stadium. It certainly makes more sense geographically for all their sports to play closer to home.

PSU has proven in 15 years that they are far from dominating the Big 10 and they probably never will. 1 title in 15 years suggests they are not an upper echelon school in the Big 10. They would be much better off in the Big East.

why are you even talking about this?! you are all wasting your not so valuable time. penn state and pitt in the same conference died 20 years ago. remember it's the reason joepa is gonna go to his grave a bitter man. he still gets ticked when ever someone asks him about the all big east conference that he tried to spearhead, to no avail.

Neither team belonged to ANY conference 20 years ago, so they could schedule whoever they wanted without a game against Ohio State, Michigan, West Virginia, or whoever every single year.

Now, from a business standpoint, it would be a good thing for both Penn State football and the Big East if PSU joined that conference. Since Penn State would be in a conference with teams that are roughly on their level, they would get more Ws and be in the running for a conference title about 9 out of 10 seasons. Since Penn State was in there, the Big East would have more respectability since Louisville wouldn't be the only decent team in their conference, and the Big East would be collecting part of the money that comes in from Penn State having such a large fan base. Besides that, a rivalry game with PSU would help raise the level of play for Pitt and WVU since they'd want to beat PSU and finish higher in the standings than they did, and it would help recruiting for those schools that they'd get to play PSU every year. Also, Penn State football would gain more attendence, since they'd have a shot at the Big East title most seasons, and fans wouldn't want to miss them playing an all important conference game.

However, personally, I am not sure I like the idea of Penn State moving to the Big East if they were to do it. They would be moving into a weaker league that's BCS bid is at risk, and they would lose respectability by taking, so to speak, the easy way out of a conference that is, right now, above their heads. Also, when Penn State does become good on a national level again, it would be harder to tell since they can beat up on Cincinnati and South Florida most seasons that they have a halfway decent team even. There also wouldn't be any huge wins such as beating Michigan or Ohio State, with the biggest game, more than likely, being against Louisville. However, if Penn State moved to the Big East and made a tough OOC schedule to make up for the Big East cupcakes (such as Ohio State, Michigan, and Notre Dame), perhaps it would be the best of both worlds. However, that would be pretty tough as most really tough teams wouldn't want to tune up against a Penn State team poised to run the slate of the Big East, because that could be an embaressing loss if they weren't running on all 8 cylinders. Most times, such teams that have a shot of winning the national title want to tune up against teams that would require a major screw up to lose and ease into things first. So from the standpoint of maintaining dignity and a top notch football program, moving into the Big East would not be a good move for Penn State.

I can almost guarantee you that the BCS would let them keep that bid if PSU jumped to the Big East. It IS all about money. Look at the Big East right now. Name me a team who has a huge fanbase (aka access to money) on a national level. None of them do. Miami had it. FSU has it for the ACC. Notre Dame has it. USC has it in the Pac-10. Big 10 has OSU and Michigan. SEC has a plethora of them. There's no money in the Big East now. Sure, Louisville is "new" and fun, but they are simply not that good of a football team this year. And does anyone else think it is remotely pathetic that even with all the great players Miami and Tech and WVU and Pitt have sent to the pros, a kid from Louisville can set the Big East sack record in Louisville's first game in the conference? Louisville has no clout. Neither does WVU, Pitt, Syracuse, or UCONN. As sad as this is to say, PSU would save that conference. Maybe this is something the Nits should think about. They are in over their heads in the Big 10.

All I ask of PSU fans is to be realistic.

I pretty much agree with you, TAE, from a business standpoint, that PSU joining the Big East would save the conference. I just don't like it from the standpoint of maintaining the program's dignity, which would be diminished by a weak schedule.

On the other hand, it would boost PSU's recruiting if they always have a shot at winning their conference, and it would make them a better team than they would be in the Big Ten. Hmmmmm....

Just like Ridge in the ICC, build up that great regular season tally, then get smacked by Utah or Fresno State when you get to the BCS bowl.

Welcome to the Sun Belt. UNT is basically already bowl bound and lost last night to Tulsa 54-2. I left at halftime. Ashlan Davis didn't even dress for Tulsa.
