I'm finishing the season with what I started. I know how to fix it some more.

That wasn't a knock on you either, TAE. I was just saying that your system would never work. Just like every other system that they throw out there. A playoff system doesn't work either. You take the top 8. What about #9 and #10? It doesn't work. Stick with the BCS. I hate it, too. However, you know what you're going after going into the season. Schedule the toughest non schedule opponents you can find. Also, be in the Big 12, Pac 10, ACC, or even the Big 10 and go undefeated. You'll more than likely make it to the big game. That's how it works. Teams now it now. So, actually go out and schedule some tough teams for your nonschedule games.

It's definitely keeping Texas afloat this year. Even with a loss there they'd still win the Big 12 and play in a BCS game.

I think it's better just to trust one's perceptions and not use a set system. In other words, if you feel that PSU's win-loss record determines a top 5 ranking, go with it. If you feel that it doesn't warrent top 25 (which it does right now), then go with that. Perhaps it's best to use a points system, like high school football, with 100 points for a BCS conference win, and 10 points added per win, and 80 points for a non BCS conference win, with 10 points added per win. Schools outside of I-A, of course, would count for very little, say 50 points with 5 points per win. Just a thought.

"Trusting perceptions" is how teams get screwed. You cannot play favorites, and it is infinitely impossible to keep your favorite teams from getting nods over teams you "don't like". It doesn't have to be for the national title, either. There's 23 other rankings that you can screw up.
My true top 25 would obviously not look like the one I post. But I am developing a system, which will be a lot better next year since I know how I want to calculate the rankings now. Can't start now, though.
