They got a post-season reward because:
1) PIAA gives Districts with at least 10 teams three weeks to run a tourney.
2) D5, in turn, stipulates at least 6 and no more than 8 teams can play.
3) Tussey earned/deserved a 6th seed and met the requirements that adults set forth before August practices began.
In October you don't say let's not allow 6 to play now, or do you?

thats why you add a bi-law stating that if there are not 6 teams with at least a .500 record, then you get a bye week and a fewer teams. you think im pissed about this now, just wait and see what happens if they win the title.

How could that happen???? I think you are the one that made the statement, and I'll quote " Why is TM in the playoffs, they have a slim to none chance to beat anybody decent."

Tell me something Gunner Why is it that Bedford won't make Hyndman part of there distict. It is my understaning that they have been busing kids there for years to keep from being moved up a step in divisions. As big a district as Bedford should be able to field a fairly large squad every year. But hey Buddy we're still playing. Go Titans... Next stop Bedford. Keep your head high Marine.

Oh by the way Gunner Tussey has eliminated the second and third seeds in District 5A. Wimber will be a challenge, b ut if we play like we did against NBC, were District 5 champs.

Hyndman is a part of Bedford District, AK. Why the bulk of their secondary kids don't come to BHS is an interesting subject.

hyndman is part of the bedford school district but its high school does not count for bedford highs classification, each school is its own "team" so to speak, and even if you did add the 20 kids that go to hyndman to bedfords enrollment, it would just make bedford a large AA school, not AAA. bedford has 260 boys, hyndman has 60, thats 320 total, the cutoff for AAA football is 326, now basketball on the other hand the cutoff is 269 (ridge has 268!).

anyway, how can you have a team in the district final and STILL not have a winning record??? tussey would have to make it to the state semifinals just to finish with a .500 season.

Here's what the newspaper had to say:

Titans bring down Rockets

By MATT JORDAN
The Tribune-Democrat
BERLIN —
The Rockwood football team gathered in the Berlin Brothersvalley High School end zone after a District 5 Class A semifinal game with Tussey Mountain.

It wasn’t the happy meeting the Rockets had hoped for, but among the hugs and tears, a group of seniors and a pair of young coaches peered back and looked forward.

The upstart Titans, seeded No. 6 in the district playoffs, used a pair of touchdowns in a 13-second span to knock off the second-seeded Rockets 41-6 and advance to face Windber in Friday’s district title game at Bedford High School.

It was a heart-wrenching loss for a Rockwood football program that just completed its second season of full varsity competition, and will join the WestPAC as the league expands next season.

“After we broke huddle, we had all our seniors and got together and thanked every single one of them,” Rockwood co-coach Adam Rullo said. “We hugged, we cried and we shared our memories. I had so much fun this year and that’s what we try to instill with these kids. Yes, football’s a sport, but we wanted to make it fun and that’s what we had in our practices and meetings, and all our games. We had fun.

“I laughed more this year, I cried more this year, and I’m sad I’m walking off the field for the last time with these kids. But it’s a great feeling to have coached these kids.”

The Rockets (7-3) lost in the playoffs for the second season in a row, but were right with the Titans (5-6), who were coming off an upset of third-seeded Northern Bedford on Nov. 4.

Junior running back Chris Neuder did the most damage on Saturday night, scoring three times, on runs of 2, 34 and 1 yards. Backfield mate Zane Bussard added another, and the Titans got special teams touchdowns from Jordan Donaldson and Waylon Corbin, who added three extra points.

Tyler Baker scored the lone Rockets’ touchdown when he cashed in from a yard out late in the third quarter, but by then the damage had been done.

With Rockwood unable to mount a consistent offensive threat, Tussey Mountain capitalized twice in the opening half, scoring once in each of the first two quarters to lead 14-0 at halftime.

As the Rockets tried to recover during the third quarter, the wheels came off for a team that closed the regular season with five straight wins.

Neuder raced off-tackle 34 yards for his second touchdown, slipping a tackle and beating senior Jake Hay to the pylon to put the Titans up 20-0 after Rockwood blocked the extra point.

But the ensuing kickoff posed an even greater problem as return man Jeremy Faidley got clobbered crossing the 35-yard line. The ball bounced loose, and Donaldson scooped it up in stride, finishing the play 37 yards later for a touchdown with 6:25 left in the third. Skyler Sheeder made it 28-0 with a two-point conversion run.

“We didn’t have a good night,” Rockets co-coach Jon Hale said. “But normally we do have good nights. This year, we were 7-2 coming in and earned our place here. I just want people to remember that. I know a lot of people say, ‘Oh, it’s Rockwood.’ Well, Rockwood’s coming, and we’ll be ready, and we’re looking forward to next year.

“It’s hard to say goodbye to these seniors, because they are a great group of kids, but I want everybody to know that tomorrow we’ll be in the weight room, we’re going to be working out and were going to be ready to come back. It’s never give up and never surrender around here and that’s the way our kids are.”

Ramblers advance to District #5 title game...

Phil DeMarco was a bit apprehensive earlier this week about how his Windber football team would come out against Meyersdale during the second-round of the District #5 Class playoffs.

There was the matter of a Week #9 loss to Portage in overtime, and a bye as the No. #1 seed in the postseason.

DeMarco need not have worried.

Windber (9-1) put a touchdown on the board on it’s opening drive, and added another in the third quarter en route to a 13-6 victory over the fourth-seeded Red Raiders on Friday night at Windber Stadium.

Pat Ferrante and Aaron Peterson scored touchdowns and the Ramblers fought through five turnovers to advance to the District 5 championship game on Nov. 18. If Rockwood wins the other semifinal tonight, the game will be played at Conemaugh Township High School. If Tussey Mountain wins, the game will take place at Bedford High School.

“It was a darn good football game,” DeMarco said. “Both teams played very hard. It was a very physical game and we were fortunate to come out on top.

“I think that our intensity and our emotions were there, and Meyersdale, of course, their emotions were up too. They have been on a pretty good streak during the second half of the season. I’ve been telling everybody that they are probably one of the best teams in the WestPAC the second half of the season.”

Meyersdale (6-5) closed its season with five wins in the past seven weeks, with both losses at the hands of the Ramblers at Windber Stadium.

“(The seniors) have us pointed in the right direction,” Red Raiders coach Andy Stahl said. “But it’s no secret that we have a very nice mix of underclassmen help. I’m very happy and proudest for our seniors. We didn’t get the result we wanted tonight, but we told them that the lesson learned here is one of pride.

“Those kids reached down a couple weeks ago and found (the pride), and that’s the thing I want them to remember about a game like tonight.”

While Windber struggled with turnover trouble throughout the game, it was the Ramblers that capitalized on an early miscue.

After Josh Kotula picked off Meyersdale quarterback Matt Stahl on the first play of the game, the Ramblers marched downfield and Ferrante capped the drive with a 2-yard plunge.

A failed extra point attempt on that touchdown set the stage for Meyersdale to take the lead during the third quarter, when Tyler Edwards’ 22-yard carry set up his 1-yard touchdown. But Windber burst through the line on the extra point and blocked the Red Raiders’ attempt.

Peterson gave the Ramblers what they needed when he scored from a yard away with 6:08 remaining in the game. Dominic Balash added the extra point and the Windber defense took it from there.

“Our defense played outstanding tonight,” DeMarco said. “Our kids weren’t going to be denied and our offensive line said ‘Hey, let’s just keep jamming the ball down their throats,’ and they did. And our defense rose to the occasion and did what they had to do.”

The Windber secondary picked off Stahl three times, and had chances for several others. Matt Wilson, back in the Windber secondary after missing several weeks with an injury, intercepted two passes during the second half as Meyersdale was looking to pull even.

While the defense was stopping drives, the Windber backfield was running out the clock. Matt Andrascik rushed for a game-high 93 yards on 16 carries and Kotula rushed for another 63.
