Re: NB vs. Bedford
HR...I don't pretend to know the wrestling ins and outs either. But I did hear that next year Richland's dual tourney will cost more points. The PIAA is making a distinction between the two. If I remember correctly these dual tourneys have been real popular in the east. That's why you would see kids at states with 50 matches on their record.

Southpaw, you are correct...the proposal is to change some things about dual meet tourneys....my concern is that this really doesn't seem like a dual meet tournament (winner?) but merely a series of pre-arranged dual meets held at one site.....
my definition of a tournament is there is one ultimate winner.....although I would imagine that Richland talked to someone before setting this up, I believe this circumvents the rule drastically, much more so than the traditional dual meet tourneys (like district and state team duals)...

Re: NB vs. Bedford
The problem is Feb. 14 is too late for district duals. This is the reason Ridge and NS moved their dual earlier in the year as before it meant nothing for district seedings. Ridge #1, NS #2, NB #3, Bedford #4.
On another subject concerning dual meet tournaments, the PIAA changed the rules for next year exactly for the reason that dual meet tournaments did not count for the same points as a regular tournament. Next year they will and teams will have to adjust their schedules accordingly.

Maybe the PIAA should define 'tournament' to those who don't get it. I still think technically there is a rules violation here. Do most other dual meet team tournaments not crown a champion? I think declaring a winner is a pretty key ingredient for having a "tournament"
Perhaps Wimbledon should just schedule a bunch of matches?
How 'bout if the NCAA selects 64 teams and then they just decide which 8 they want to play?
Bet the District and State "team tournaments" crown champions.
This Richland duals was in no way shape or form a tournament. It was a series of dual meets no different than a double-dual.
Hey, great idea.....Tri-County Wrestling League just needs to get together over 2-days, wrestle each other and determine their league champion, and only be assessed 3 competition points for it! That would really open up the schedule.
It just ticks me off that people are circumventing the system.

HR, I don't know why you are so fired up over this. Is it because your team has not taken advantage of the opportunity to wrestle in one of these dual meet "tournaments" or what? There was a loophole in the rules and the PIAA addressed it, end of story. Next year this will not be possible for any team, so it will be a level playing field again.
no Warden, there is no loophole....and the changes for next year do not address this problem directly....
all the changes do for next year is if it's a two-day dual tourney, then it's worth 4 points....it still will not address this problem...
and this problem has a direct effect on the teams and wrestlers following the rules this year....to address it later is an injustice to those that follow the rules (although some stretch them, they stay within the spirit of the rule)....
Tournament....2 or more teams....champion declared...this is from the PIAA handbook....did this happen at the Richland duals? if it did, then no problem...if it didn't, it's simply a series of dual meets held on one site....
