Even if Clausen turns out to be a flop, ND has some nice back-ups in freshmen Zach Frazer and Demetrius Jones (both in Lemming's top 100) as well as sophomore Evan Sharpley (who might be the ND starter next year).
You can sling all the Charlie Weis fat jokes you want, but one thing's for sure-- this guy can recruit.
In the meantime, Penn State fans should be more worried about this year's Irish QB and how many points the ND offense will be hanging on the Lion defense.

Did you know... that the College Football Hall of Fame recognizes Pitt as having won THREE national championships?

Were Frazer and Jones in Lemming's top 100 before they signed with ND, or did it pan out the normal way, meaning they verballed to ND and Lemming moved them up? What an absolute fraud he is.

As you should be worried about Morelli, Williams, Norwood, Butler, etc and how many points the PSU offense will be hanging on the Domer defense.

Frasier committed fairly early, so I can't speak for him but, Jones' decision was a last minute one and he's ranked about 20 spots higher than Frasier. No matter, neither one of them will ever start for ND.
Frasier, by-the-way, turned down Penn State to go Irish.
As far as Morelli - I understand he might be a solid college QB, but what has he done so far? Right.
I don't think Irish fans are getting too bent out of shape at this point - but, he'll get all due respect.
However, I DO think that this year's game should be a decent one, offensively (PSU averaged 34.4 ppg and ND averaged 37.9 ppg in 2005). The key factor will be Morelli's ability to run the offense.
Defensively, PSU gave up 17.0 ppg and ND gave up 24.5 ppg. The factor here will be how much the Irish defense has improved since last year.

Re: Jimmy Clausen Spotted in Athens!
Using the previous season's stats in college football as a way to gauge anything in the current season is about as stupid as Charlie Weis is fat.
Only good thing about Jimmy Clausen is that the media has been dropping their pants for this kid for so long that people actually believe what they have heard about him. He'll bring in a huge class for ND based on his theoretical clout. This example with him is the sickest example of overhyped HS players I have ever seen, and it gets worse every season.

Re: Jimmy Clausen Spotted in Athens!
I realize everyone is starting at zero this season (that's why pre-season rankings are idiotic).
But not being able to consider a previous year's performance as a way to predict how teams might potentially match up next season is somewhat rediculous.
Regardless of you opinion, which I respect, this will be a good game. And thats based on what these teams did last year and who they have coming back and who they've added.

I'd argue that LeBron James was the most over-hyped HS player ever.
If I see any of Clausen's high school games on TV, I'll start to agree with you. But until then, James wins.
Also, I like the fact that Clausen has committed already. He is, after all, a kid - a sr in high school - he deserve to have a semi-normal year.

Wow. That is the first time I have seen that stated in a long time. Glad to have you around....
It will be a good game, as will the 2007 one...
