The PIAA has consistently overturned the WPIAL rulings regarding player participation and almost always sides with the player.

Without praise or malice to v-man's legal abilities, I suspect the District 6 decision will be overturned.

I gotta side with Xylo on this, at the end of the day we all know Wadley will be playing football.

I was not consulted for legal abilities by any means! But I have become rather familiar with PIAA rules & rulings in recent weeks! With that said I am not as sure of AW being sided with @ the state level, as you & TAE seem to be!

If you happen to be who I suspect you may be, that is a very classy response and keeps focus where it should be: looking after the best interest of the young person involved!

As I stated in the KH situation I, personally, was all for that kid getting another year, he did not know he rules, nor did he make those choices(repeating a grade or not) when he was like 11, 12 yrs old!

And I will wait to see how AWs case plays out. All I will say now is that there are some ironic twist involved that must wait till post hearing but again I believe your priorities are in the correct perspective!

I don't know the kid or why he failed 9th grade. But if there were no special circumstances concerning his repeating 9th grade I can't see why the state would allow him to have an extra year. It could really open up a can of worms. If there were special circumstances then I agree with hilltoppanther to "Let him play".

Question for those that know....I do not know the young man in question, other than by name....I believe I read an article this spring saying he was a stud in track, but was ineligible to participate? Is that correct? I apologize if I have the story incorrect....just trying to remember what I read...something about a top athlete not competing....thanks...

The only thing the PIAA has to watch in this one is that they will open the door for other athletes to fail a grade in order to get an extra year.

My only argument, is that the young man did not lose a year of athletics, so why the appeal for an extra year?

My understanding is that you can do the same sport for six seasons ( four at the varsity level) and no more...If you go through grades 7-12 using the seven year plan(as long as your age stays fine)..Don't play the sport of choice both years you are repeating a grade. Take a year off somewhere along the line or choose another sport for a year or something.

Approximately 9 years ago, the PIAA changed the eligibility form. The rule prior to 1998 read that a student had 8 semesters from grades 9-12 in which to compete in interscholastic sports.

The rule from 1999 now reads that a student has 12 semesters from grades 7-12 in which to compete in interscholastic sports.
