Simply the Best

Re: Simply the Best
Making it to the Sweet 16 means that there are only 15 other teams in the entire country still vying for the National Championship in Division I college basketball. And there an awful lot of D-I basketball teams compared to football teams.

Yeah but I mean heck Penn State basketball made to the sweet 16 not to long so don't ack like it is some great feat to make the sweet 16

Re: Simply the Best
Not a great feat to make the Sweet 16???? Where've you been? Like I said, it means there are only 15 other teams that can take the National Championship. Pitt has had 5 straight NCAA appearances, 3 of which made it to the Sweet 16. Penn State hasn't made the NCAA's since 2001. So you can see, it's NOT easy to consistantly make the tournament, AND get to the Sweet 16 with some regularity.

Re: Simply the Best
College basketball is stupid and when you let 300 teams play for a title it diminishes the whole league by lowering the overall talent level.

Re: Simply the Best
How do you figure the talent level is lowered? Ther are 336 Division I men's basketball teams, all of which have a chance at the National Championship when the season starts. If each team needs 5 good players to make a run at the title, then college basketball needs approximately 1,680 players for some equality on the court. There are 120 Division I football teams which have a chance at the National Championship in football when the season starts. Each of these teams needs 22 good players (not even counting a punter and kicker) to make an impact on the field. Therefore division I college football needs at least 2,640 players for some equality on the field. If you ask me, the lowering of the athletic talent level in college sports is in football, not basketball. Don't let the number of teams in the hunt fool you.

When was the last time all four 1st seeds made the final four???
The tournament is just a crap shoot and about 30 teams going into the tourney each year have a realistic shot at making the final 4.

Re: Simply the Best
You would think the Big 10 fans would hold the Sweet Sixteen in higher regard since they didn't have any teams even make it that far last year. Its so easy though I guess.
The thing that is stupid is a system were only 2 teams get a chance for a championship, but it is decided by some computers and a bunch of biased voters with their own agendas. Thats the one area where basketball excels over football. The NCAA Tournament. You get the nations top 5% of the teams in a tournament and you have them play for the title. And doesn't the best team always end up winning in the end. Name me one team in the last 10 years who at one point in the season wasn't considered one of the best. Of course there is going to be a bunch of teams that can make it to the Final Four and there is always some cinderella teams, but thats what makes it so good. Every confernece champion is there, every conference tournament champion is there, and a crap load of other outstanding teams. It brings out the best in teams and the cream always rises to the top.

Re: Simply the Best
Hey, I'm not talkin' trash on the tournament system! I'm just saying that 336 is a bit high. Maybe too high by 136. We all know that 3/4 of those teams are never going to the tournament, never have before, and have no chance to recruit decent players (I'm talking high caliber) and even make a run. And dont bring up George Mason. George Mason gets relatively decent players. If you took 136 of those teams and erased them from I-A, and put all their best players on depth charts of the other 200, look how much better the whole level of talent would be. There's too many teams! Look at the MLB.

College Basketball 10000000000 times better off the Football its all politics in Football i mean come on Notre Dame will be ranked unless their 0-12 then throw in 7 overrated big 10 teams and a few SEC teams theres your top 25
119 teams in D1 football only 10 realistically have a chance at a title whats the fun in that?
Auburn ranked 19 preseason and ran the table but since they werent one of the 10 teams in the media polls they were completley eliminated from Title contention College Football Championship system is garbage and will be untill a playoff comes around
65 teams play in the greatest sporting event in North America i mean at least 25 teams can potentially win a title(Florida was certainly not a favorite leat year) and March Madness with 15 seeds beating 2's is a whole lot better then 6-6 Iowa playing Texas in the Alamo Bowl?
Bowl Season just doesnt have the same feeling as March Madness
