You guys who are throwing Paterno under the bus now are the same ones who were singing his praises when we were undefeated in 1994, won two national championships, and were 11-:01 just two short years ago AND won the BIG TEN...

God, makes me sick. The man has the RIGHT to leave with honor, and on his on terms..... you get that when you better the academics of the university with nearly $20 M in donations.

Paterno once said that "They ask me what I'd like written about me when i'm gone. I hope they write I made Penn State a better place, not just that I was a good football coach."

And I know someone is going to make a comment about how he's not a good football coach, but the facts don't lie. Quit your whining, man up, and show Paterno the respect he deserves. Life isn't all about football at college, it's a large part, but it's not the entire focus of an University.

But to put my two cents in on the discussion.....I think we're overlooking someone on this thread: a few years ago when investigations surfaced about Washington's football coach's involvement with a NCAA tourney pool, the first (and one of only two) coaches to come to his defense was Joe Paterno.

Paterno and Rick Neuheisel are good friends, and thats the type of thing that might make someone want to leave a job as the Ravens Offensive Coordinator (which face it, he doesn't have much to work with) for one of the best college football jobs in the country.

As far as Jay Paterno, give me a break........futhermore, why is he QB Coach anyway? Shouldn't that be McQueary's job?

Look, no one is saying he didn't do great things in his time. But that's where it stops: in his time. His time is not right now. If you can watch these performances and tell me that Joe Paterno knows what he's doing, then you're watching a different game than everybody else. And as far as honor goes... sure, he ran a tight ship in his day. A very honorable one. Do we need to bring up the arrest record again over the past few seasons? The only honor associated with that, is the honor the media had by not saying what they should have been saying. ESPN and other media outlets gave Paterno free pass after free pass after free pass. The wheels are clearly coming off, fortheglory.

As far as I'm concerned, he can stay as long as he wants as long as he fires the offensive coaches and brings in someone else to really run that aspect of the game. All i want to see is progress. Can you show me progress over the past couple years? Because they sure as hell look like the same team.

2 years ago Penn State TIED for the Big ten, and the reason why they did that was Michael Robinson making plays with his feet. They only "opened up the playbook" (and even saying that is a stretch) because the fans were getting pissed off at how bad the team was doing. Robinson had unique leadership abilities, and we have not had a player like that since God knows when. As soon as Robinson left, what have we seen? Penn State go right back to running the same 5 plays that don't work, and relying on Bradley to win games when you hand him 9 yards to stop an offense from scoring 1 TD to win, because you yourself can't get into the endzone with the most speed in the whole conference.

Let me spell this out real simply: When you see a football team make the exact same mistakes through TWO offensive coordinators, that eliminates the ability to place blame on Ganter and Hall. The problem is obviously not the off. coordinator. It's the guy above him.

Joe Paterno didn't even know that Chris Bell was on the team last year. If you remember correctly, Bell had a nice season for a freshman. You figure that one out.

You brought up 1994... dude, that was 13 seasons ago. We have lost to the same team 9 straight times. Look at Paterno's record versus top 25 teams. You wanna talk about national titles... dude, that was 21 years ago. Some of the posters on this board weren't even born yet. And let's keep in mind also that that was back in the days when national titles were awarded to whoever people felt like giving them to. BYU and Louisville "won" national titles in the 1980's as well. Just playing devil's advocate.

I'm not doubting that the time for him to resign has came and passed...All I'm saying is the man has the right to do it on his own terms. If he wants to retire in 2017 at age ninety, he has the right to. They did open up the playbook with M.Rob.....but you really think Morelli has the ability to do the things he did? I agree completely that the offense has been lacking this year, it really does look bad lately...I just hope when he does leave, the university makes a wise decision on who replaces him.

You let Joe Paterno coach this team until 2017, he's going to keep the same staff up there. By that time, Beaver Stadium will look like Heinz Field on Saturdays.

hahaha, that won't happen at Beaver Stadium, the tickets will still be sold, all the seats will still be bringing the university money. I don't see a point in my lifetime where that will happen.

I'm just saying he has the right to. And the university won't remove him, the students love him, the alumni love him.

It isn't all about winning. It's about respect. It's about respect for someone who has done so much for this place. He could go 0-12 next year and I still think he deserves the right to walk out when he wants to.
