I agree. That was a pretty dumb comment. After watching Bedford wrestle this weekend I think they are def. a top 6 team in the state. Gould lost a close match to a boy he beat earlier in the year in the Bermudian Springs match. If he wins that, Bedford is in the state finals. I'm not in any way saying it was Gould's fault they lost. I think if those two teams wrestle 10 times Bedford wins 5. I think Reynolds and Burrell are clearly the 2 best teams. After that Bedford would be anywhere from 3 to 6.

I agree Louie. I think this is the best team that D5 has seen in a long time (with some great depth as well) and I have been saying that since November. And the best part is that Ridge's team isn't too far behind them. This team is comparable, if not better, than some of the Bedford teams of the late 90's. Burrell has proved to be the top team in the state knocking off Reynolds (and finishing ahead of them in a tournament earlier this year). Unfortunately for Reynolds, the two teams met in the semifinals. Bedford proved that they could beat Shady Side and, I agree with Louie, they could have beaten Bermudian Springs. They are a tier below Burrell and Reynolds, but they are for sure one of the best teams in the state of Pennsylvania. They are well above average.

A little off topic. But why do some districts get 2 teams to the state tournament and some districts only get one?

....another question, what happened after Bedford lost-----did they get to wrestle-back for 3rd/4th? I've never seen how a state dual works, so this is why I ask.

I'm assuming the other districts get two teams in because they have quite a few more schools, say D5 vs. D7. Def. doesn't mean that they are taking the best schools because I think Ridge could have done the same as Bedford.
After Bedford lost, they dropped into the losers bracket where they had to wrestle Shady Side again. They lost. Had they won that match, they would have been wrestling for 3rd/4th. I think they only give medals to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams.
Great job to the wrestlers and coaching staff at Bedford. They were the only team in the semis who had to wrestle two matches to get there. All the others had first round byes. That's what stinks for D5. No matter how good a team they send they will always have to wrestle two matches as opposed to one for other district champs. I was surprised after the first match how quickly Bedford had to turn around and wrestle the second. Why don't they schedule those second matches a little later in the day to give the teams who win in the first round a little breather?
Next year should be exciting if they can keep everyone healthy.

The only seniors that started are Nick Beegle and Kevin Dudek. If i am correct the rest are all underclassmen and gibbons is only a freshman.

I think you are correct sparky. With Brett back next year they should again have a very solid lineup. When they wrestled NBC this year, I believe all underclassmen wrestled.

there is no comparison between bedfords team this year and those of the late '90s agreed it would have been a match but late '90s teams were a cut above. next year though there may be an argument.

So you believe that if they had had state duals at that point in time, those Bedford squads may have been state champs? What was their best finish as a team at individual states during that era?
