Public school is free, private schools cost money.  In some instances, a kid can receive some financial aid to attend a private school.  I just don't understand why people care what someone pays to go to a school or not.
Its not about public school or private school.
Its about athletes who transfer getting their tuition at the private school paid for.... There is a big difference from paying at a private and not paying. When athletes get free tuition its the problem most people find
I'm not looking to re-hash a patch of well worn ground here but does anyone know of a transfer who actually got their tuition paid for because of an athletic transfer? Not heard about or rumored, but know, because if you did I would report the, school, coach, and athlete to either D6 or the PIAA.

Report them and there will be a hearing if there is any substance to it. I've stopped posting on here because I know no matter how reasoned you try to be there are people here who hate private schools and all they stand for athletically and sometimes for other reasons, when the PIAA is where you should be directing your anger. I've stated before that I've had 2 kids go through BG and have one there currently and two of them played/play sports to a varying degree. I've also said that I'm not fan of how many transfers have happened in the girls BB program, one because of the inequity of it and two, because it hurts girls who've come up within the program. However, I don't believe for one second that any transfer is going to school for free because of athletics. I know my children certainly haven't and it has been a large sacrifice to send them there.

While you never know what goes on with a family's private finances, I think it would have come out at some point if someone was going to school for free. After all, there are people who teach, coach, and work in the office at the private schools who send their kids there and would not be happy if they were paying while someone else wasn't based on the value of a jump shot. I guess in the end I just question how anyone can say with such certainty that athletes are receiving full tuition scholarships without any tangible proof, other than "I heard from a friend that she is transferring and getting a scholarship" to back it up. Discuss amongst yourselves and best of luck to the local kids remaining in the basketball/wrestling playoffs and tournaments, both public and private.
SFB14, I'm with you on not wanting to beat a dead horse, but I have a different perspective than what Konjo stated, and it sort of aligns w/ Crimson's thoughts, but not entirely. I won't presume to say "most" people agree w/ me, heck, for all I know, I'm on an island by myself.
Personally, I applaud any parent trying to do the best thing for their kid(s). If that happens to be making sacrifices to pay for them to get the best education they can get, I have Zero issue with that. But, let's not be naive. While it's not true of all Transfers, it is true of some,...some Transfer for Athletic purposes, period. "Some", are not looking for a good old-fashioned Catholic education. However, believe it or not, I have no issue if there actually Are full/partial scholarships given for athletic reasons.
BUT, here is where the apples-to-apples train jumps the tracks. If some schools receive Transfers for Athletic reasons, and some schools don't,...there is a disparity when it comes Playoff/Championship time. The Catholic and Charter schools should compete against each other. And, the public schools, likewise.
Also, the old-fashioned image many have of a Disciplined Catholic education, has gone the way of the dinosaur. My 4 kids are out of public high school, but they all competed in various sports, against BG, BC, and BM, over the past 15 years, and I'm only speaking to what I've witnessed with my own eyes, and ears. Some of the worst behavior I've witnessed, has been from those schools, at various sporting events. As a Catholic myself, I've been embarrassed by it, and I had no affiliation with those schools. At one event, a player from one of those schools Kicked an injured opponent lying on the floor. An opponent's fan yelled, (and I don't condone yelling at student-athletes) "Is that what you Catholics are taught?!" The player's response was to turn, and yell, "I'm Not Catholic, so Shut Up!"  Half the crowd in the gym heard the exchange, including the player's Coach. There were no repercussions.  I didn't see the coach even attempt to talk with the player, to remind him that he's representing himself, his team, his school, (and indirectly, Catholics). Nor, did I see his parents say anything to him. Perhaps they did after the game.
I'm just a garden variety Public school Catholic parent, but I assure you, ...if I had watched my son kick an injured player, and then yell into the stands like that,....I wouldn't have waited for a Ref, or Coach, to do anything. I would have run onto that floor and grabbed my boy, and said, "You're done playing basketball." And, he would have left that gym w/ me, period.
Anyone that knows me will attest, while I've got my share of scars, warts, and faults,....lying ain't one of them.
In Summary: My issues w/ Catholic schools (at least the 3 I've witnessed myself), Disparity for Playoffs, and the apparent Lack of Discipline for "some" prima donnas.

Let this be clear. If a kid gets an athletic scholarship to a private school, all the power to them to accept it and get a education they want. If you want to pay for private, all the power to you! I think all of that is awesome for those people

My only one problem is competitive integrity. It becomes an issue in that way. Its not the Athletes fault, or even the schools who do it. The people at fault are the PIAA allowing it to occur. Let the schools recruit. Just put them in a seperate divison.

To put it in the nicest way possible, I've never seen an uglier half of basketball. Hollidaysburg has had 10+ air balls/shots that have hit the top of the backboard. Should take some kind of miracle for Altoona to lose this one.
