The name says it all!

MVP to me means the best player which will ultimately help his team win in most cases!! Some have better players around them than others, but who plays smarter and plays D better, etc. should WIN the MVP honors. Heck maybe Coach should have WON the dang award for fighting so hard with everyone and helping his site win the agruement battle!!rah, rah, rah.

Hollywood quote "MVP to me means the best player which will ultimately help his team win in most cases!!" Well, Who helped there team win in most cases?

This is why Harris is Outstanding Player and Miller in Tip-Off Tourney and Barefoot in reg. season were Most Valuable Players

I think the misconception here is Outstanding (Read: Harris) vs Most Valuable.

Outstanding = BEST PLAYER
Most Valuable = PLAYER WHO DID MOST TO HELP TEAM ACHIEVE SUCCESS

Just put them in the same conference and see what happens just like back in the day when all the county teams played each other and settle this!!

If the MVP award requires a team to win, then why did Alex Rodriguez get it when his team was 71-91 last season?

MOST of the time...that doesn't happen. ARod was just so outstanding...I listen to ESPN radio all the time...last year it was a big debate when discussing who should get it. They basically said everything we've said here. He was on a losing team...where is the value? BUT...he was so outstanding...heads and shoulders above the rest that how can he not get it?

This is stupid anymore. They had to pick an MVP of the league. The only way to determine a players value is to look at his performance compared to the other canidates performance. This only works if the competition is the same. I don't care which conference is harder, if they don't play the same teams their numbers aren't relative and nothing can be compared. I'm not arguing strength of schedule. I'm pointing out common sense. It's like trying to pick the overall MVP of the AL and NL combined. They don't play the same teams, way too hard to compare them.

Congrats to BB. It was a coin toss, you were both very deserving!

Here is the voting from last year's AL MVP:

http://quickstart.clari.net/qs_se/webne ... Z_DNH.html

As you can see, the closest person that was on a winning team in the voting was Posada, and he was almost 100 votes behind....

This is good stuff, a deep thread with many good posts backed up with statistics and facts. I love it. This is much better than some pointless posts just saying so and so is great.

whoooooops....Delgado and Toronto finished 86-76...he was second. Not being a jerk...BUT thanks for posting this. I will bold the guys on this list who came from teams with losing records. 3 out of 26. Those 3 are the only members of their team that is represented. Something that hurt the guys on the winning teams>> Well look at picks 5-7 where you have three guys on the same team. It is tough to just pick one from a good team because they are all extremely valuable.

2 Mariners....good team
1 Royal....good team, but like the twins...the didn't have the big names
1 Twin....see above. played on a team without enough standouts
1 Ranger
1 Devil Ray
1 Angel

The better teams had more votes...more guys to vote for from one team actually hurts their actual best player.

Hmm

Here's my favorite MVP story:

A few years ago a team I am involved with ventured to D-5/6 land to play Hollidaysburg--We went on to make the WPIAL AAAA final four while Hollidaysburg struggled to make the D-6 AAAA playoffs--The Golden Cake Eaters upset my team with a lil help from their friends...

There were THREE Co-MVPs for the winning Hollidaysburg team that night and all wore the same striped black and white striped shirts...

Wonder if they honored all three at the team banquet at the end of the season?
