I don't believe there is a date...the rule now is that you have to have 50% of your weigh ins at district weight (or lower).
Am I right on that one?

It is a stupid rule in my opinion. If I weigh 150 and wrestle 152 all year long because I can't beat the guy at 145. Then he breaks his leg and I can't go down. Silly.

So weigh in all year long at 145.
I think its a great rule. And I think they should continue to change the rules until weight cutting is completely eliminated. I believe it is unhealthy for growing kids to be undernourishing themselves in such a way. And if you really understand the sport and weight-cutting, you can see how it is a pointless cycle. One kid cuts weight so that he is bigger and stronger than the kids he is competing against. So, in turn, every other wrestler must cut to even the playing field. Now, obviously, it is not that blatent to see. You can't just point out who the one kid is and now it has just become part of the sport. But I bet if you look back in time, there was that one kid who originally had the idea to cut weight.

So you think I should make extra weight all year long for possibly nothing? That makes no sense. Give up weight all year for the possiblity of an injury occurring. Silly.
It is just like most things, they punish everyone for a few. If you can't make weight correctly or dont want to, that is your business.

I've gotta agree w/ 4him on this one. These are high school kids. They need to have an outside authority dictating their weight. It's too dangerous to allow a 15 year old decide if it's healthy to cut 25 pounds in a period of a month or not. We need to keep this decision outside of the wrestler, parent or coach.

Stupid rules are made to protect stupid people. This rule is stupid. If a young man makes weight correctly he can lose a reasonable amount of weight over a period of time. Again, as with many things in our society, the masses are penalized for the stupidity of a few.

I think you have it backwards...the majority is the group that makes weight wrong; the minority is the group that do it right.
