Bishop Guilfoyle vs. Farrell Open Game Thread
Re: Bishop Guilfoyle vs. Farrell Open Game Thread
And what would you have them do? They are still better than any AA team in the area or the state IMO... No one had a problem when they were 1-9 a few years back. I know everyone is calling for separation of private and public but it doesn't always work out how you'd like it. Look at New Jersey.Birda wrote:Sorry, no conference around here is competitive week in and week out. Including the LHAC. There are haves and have nots. BG had the opportunity to show they wanted to play better competition by playing up. They didn't do that.

Yes, New Jersey had been mentioned here before but it's a red herring. If parents think a private school will give their kid an advantage and they can afford it, good for them. But public schools in separate leagues still produce some of the best recruits in states like Texas and Virginia. No, not every football player with an ounce of talent plays at a private school.Abaddon wrote:And what would you have them do? They are still better than any AA team in the area or the state IMO... While I do not believe this BG team was recruited whatsoever, I will say that if any big name players from Altoona, Bellwood, Hollidaysburg, etc. transfer over for next season, I will not be able to continue defending them. Time will tell I suppose...
Re: Bishop Guilfoyle vs. Farrell Open Game Thread
There is the rub. The more success that a public or private school achieves in a particular academic or extra-curricular offering, the more attractive that school becomes to those that have an interest/passion for the offering in question. If the parents knowingly transfer their student(s) with "athletic purpose", they are intentionally not advertising their intent. In such cases, it is nearly, if not completely, impossible for the former or future high school (or the District Committee) to state that Article VI has been violated.MrReliable wrote:While I do not believe this BG team was recruited whatsoever, I will say that if any big name players from Altoona, Bellwood, Hollidaysburg, etc. transfer over for next season, I will not be able to continue defending them. One possible way to discourage transfers is to swing all the way over to the other side of the spectrum and declare and transferring student ineligible for one year for any offering they participated in their former school. Yes, that penalizes students who have legitimately moved, but it covers those who "live" at grandma's house an hour a day and the P.O. Box residence.

The uproar it will cause when BG gets other school's top tier players will be damaging enough to their reputation.
Re: Bishop Guilfoyle vs. Farrell Open Game Thread
I have been hearing that BG recruits for to long. I am a student at BG and I can promise you we do not recruit and I can prove that to you. Now many say Logan mcgeary was a recruit but the people who say that have never known him. He came to BG because he wanted to. BG never ever went after him and they didn't offer him anything besides being on a state championship team. I would say that is a transfer not a recruit. He came because he wanted to win and he knew he wouldn't get that at altoona. So if you know anyone on BG who was recruited I would love to hear who they are and I would also like to meet them. You give me a name and I will prove to you that they came through the diocese catholic school system or just came to BG because they wanted to win. I can promise you BG didn't recruit because bg can't afford to give out sport scholarships.

PIAA could say that players are only eligible if they transfer by their sophomore season. That solves that problem easily.

Somewhere during the religious experience at schools like this, they must have either said, or read in a certain book, "Ye shall reap as ye sow." Sowing the seeds of dissent will bite them eventually.

Saw in the Tribune today where BM is starting their wrestling program next season. Wonder how NO borders will help them fill out their roster with some good talent.

I wonder if the recent BMCHS wrestling influx to Westy's program will now be reversed, and Westy's stature will be greatly diminished from what it's been.El-Moldo wrote:Saw in the Tribune today where BM is starting their wrestling program next season.
