PSEA - the PA teachers union. A parasite that lives off the forced patronage of Pennsylvania property owners. An obstructionist that opposes public district consolidation. Cambria county has lost over 4,000 people since the last census and has the lowest number of school age children in recorded history, yet it has the same 15 public school districts that existed when there was 3x the school age population we have today. And the costs today are at least 5x what they were back in the day. Some districts are located within others while kids routinely pass through one district to get to their school in another district. Yet instead of having any discussion about this waste and redundancy all we read about is how horrible it is that the state has not increased taxes to pass a budget to feed this monster. It is insane.

If you look at what a lot of this mega large businesses are doing is to what you are saying with schools. Office depot is buying staples, budwesier is buying miller coors, so on an so forth down the line. They are doing this to grow for their stockholders. You get rid of the redundent positions, have more invetory and more stores all under one roof which you can manage better. There are things this area needs to do. Not only to survive but to grow and get better. Compition is a good thing for school and for sports. I like the idea of cutting cost of schools for the tax payers, having better buildings and teachers. Will it happen, probably not, shout it happen I think its time to look at options and help our kids for the future. The past has been great but we need to move forward and grow as a community and a state. Another thing is we as a country need to stop pushing college and let some of our kids and adults work on going to trade schools and teach that in high schools also.

BG staff has done a great job coaching obviously when you win 2 state championships and will be favorite to 3 peat next fall.  I do think though with the talent they have had and will continue to have if you give this team to the Portage staff or the Bellwood staff, Altoona etc.. the results would be the same.   They have 75-80% starters back next fall and it will be interesting to see what other athletes become   " attracted" to BG for next football season.
Everyone else in District VI single A will have zero chance of competing against BG again next fall and will be battling for the prestigious runner-up position.  It is unfair but the PIAA is not going to change anything and District VI can do absolutely nothing. What motivation is there for a football program in District VI single A?  I thought maybe a couple schools might have chosen to play up in AA.
Interesting how all three Bishop schools in District VI have played for a state championship in football.  Hmmmmmm

Public education is NOT about helping our kids. It IS about maintaining jobs at the expense of our kids and taxpayers -- what is known as "feeding the monster". Hey, the Republicans have a sizable majority in both houses in PA - had it under the last governor too who was a Republican - yet the R's from the SE Pennsylvania cesspool are so intimidated by the PSEA (because they are hanging by a thread in the southeast that is dominated by handout mentality D's) that they refuse to even acknowledge that public school consolidation is an issue that should be discussed. The PSEA is in the business of protecting it's members jobs - PERIOD - even if it is at the expense of our children's education. And when anyone get's in their way (spineless, unprincipled, in this case republican politicians whose main goal in life is to stay in office) they squash them. Kids be damned. That's why there has been no discussion of the obvious during the current budget impasse.

[ul]I once sat in on a speech given to teachers at an esteemed university. One teacher got up, and asked "What do you like most about students from [this esteemed university]? Is it their analytical skills? Their problem solving ability?" The speaker fixed his tie and replied, "Honestly... they do what they're told, and they don't ask questions."[/ul]

[ul][li]The goal of education over the last 100 years has been to create cogs for whatever economic system is in place. The goal has never been to create thoughtful, independent, problem solvers. Even in private schools, rote memorization is pervasive.[/li]
[li]Funding is not the problem. Many studies have shown there is no correlation between funding and test scores. [/li]
[li]There are many teachers (at both public and private schools) who care greatly about their kids. The problem is, these teachers are always the first ones to get fired. Same with politics: take McCort for example. People like Mark Pasquerilla remain while much nobler people are shown the door.[/li]
[li]Charter schools are the next ponzi scheme in a long line of scams created to profit from the guise of helping children.[/li]
[li]The only person to profit from No Child Left Behind was Neil Bush.[/li]
[li]11% of children ages 4-17 are diagnosed with ADD or ADHD and given amphetamines like Adderall which can cause irregular heartbeats, panic, delirium, psychosis, and heart failure. The percentages are higher in college students.[/li]
[li]Our children are taught (by the screens) to look up to people like Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, Brittney Spears, Lil Wayne, Jay-Z, The Jonas Brothers, and Lady Gaga. Videos like this are specifically targeted at teenagers. What do you think the message here is? Surely it's not to use drugs and sex to gain social acceptance. [/li]
[li]The US now ranks 7th in literacy. 27th in math. 22nd in science. 49th in life expectancy. And 178th in infant mortality.[/li]
[li]There is now more student loan debt in America than credit card debt. At the same time, the unemployment rate for college graduates is higher than it has ever been. This means college is a bad investment.[/li]
[li]If the goal of public education is to prepare students for a bad investment then the entire system is defunct. [/li]
[li]If you don't want to cheat, but you also don't want your kids to be debt slaves who can't think for themselves, consider homeschooling.[/li]
[li]Congratulations to Bishop Guilfoyle on the state championship.[/li]
[li]Stop watching the news, it's poison.[/li][/ul]

Please show me where I was "ripping" on the kids, or the team for that matter?  I said that I think Berlin could beat them.  Does this mean every time I do a "Fearless Forecast" I'm "ripping" on the team that I think won't win the game?  I played at Frankfort HS in WV.  I then played center at Virginia State, then got my masters at WVU.  But back on subject, please show me (by quoting the post) where I rip on any single kid, or school.  Love to see it.
