Re: LHAC boys sweep district 6
Ok, please guys. Im not saying CC is the best team in PA, but im 100% positive it was wrong of jtown to hold the ball. In that situation, you move the ball and find an open shot- the one thing you DONT do is force something. You can take time off the clock looking for shots, but standing there??? come on... You could see the frustration in the jtown players on the court!!! Looking to their coach and throwing there hands up in the air. You move the ball maybe knock down a shot. The coach took all the momentum out of his players. Even if they had none, they walk into the locker room down 10 points and admit they were afraid to attack the basket. How confident could the players be in their abilities if their coach doesnt show confidence in them??? They came out in the 3rd and got the score down to about 3 or 4. But if they put 2-3 points on the board in the closing minutes or even seconds of the 1st half that team has MOMENTUM, which is HUGE in high school basketball. Maybe i crossed the line when i called him a coward, and i retract that statement, but i DO think it was EXTREMELY foolish to kick an athletic team like jtown in the mouth, which HE DID. As for CC's bench, we will see next year. I assure you that if you say they are not deep, then you must be ignorant to local sports. And if 6'10'' Brian Holsinger comes back from an injury, they will be favorites to win the LH and District again. Are you guys forgetting about Jordan Miller?

Re: LHAC boys sweep district 6
Having Brian Holsinger in the lineup wouldn't make a single bit of difference against McClane, or any other good team.
BHolsinger is big and a very good young post player, but his presence wouldn't address CC's lack of speed and athleticism to compete at the state level. As a matter of fact, his presence may actually make CC even bigger and slower and could likely hinder CC rather than help them...and that is no knock on the kid, who as I said, is a very solid young player...it's just the reality of the situation...CC already has plenty of size (even withoiut young BHolsinger), BH would just be one more big body that would slow down CC even more.
Now, if you were telling me that CC had another player of Miller's caliber (a quicker, more athletic guard) who would be on the floor vs. quality teams, then I would agree that CC would have a much better shot of advancing deeper in PIAAs.
Just my opinion.
I do wish CC good luck in PIAAs, and hope they do well. I know that Coach Traino is a class act and has worked hard with this year's team. He finally won the District 6 AAA title that eluded him for years. He couldn't even win one when God (aka-Randy McKavish) played for him because my mighty alma mater (PC) dissed him at SFU in the finals...Traino deserves the best, and so do their kids.
UH, OH...I used the G-word...The McCort people will be all over me...

When we had our district runner-up team in 2003, Penns Valley employed this exact same offensive (or defensive as the case really is) tactic during their meetings with us.BlueWhite23 wrote:Johnstown had a very odd strategy for keeping CC from scoring---they held the ball for 4 minutes on offense, LITERALLY!! In the end of the first half, the JTown PG dribbled the crowd to boos and put some to sleep. Never seen anything like it.

Most of you may think that Kid is too young and naive to understand coach fuschino's "strategy" but he poses a good point. For the type of team Johnstown has,(quick, athletic, fast-break), their best thing to do in that situation would either be to implement some screens and pass the ball around to eventually create a mismatch and have someone take it to the rim....or run a set/rotation through for a good minute and a half...someone is bound to get an open shot. The players were noticeably disgruntled with his decision. If I were the coach I would've gotten the ball in Weatherly's hands and let him work his magic. At times in the second half the kid couldn't miss a shot if he tried. What can one compare this to? First let me say its all subjective and mostly dependent on who ends up winning the game...but its kind of like a a football coach questionably going for it on forth down or punting it away at a critical point late in the game in hopes of getting the ball back. Its not a matter of if their "strategy works" its a matter of if they ultimately win or not. A W=great strategy, a L=questioning period. That's what it boils down to at least in terms of debate.
Don't pick on kid, he may be young and in the pre-puberty stage of life, but he makes some valid points and good observations here and there. Kudos kid

Titan, I know you probably are biased toward the WPIAL and teams like McLane and you have a right to be---they have a lot of good quality teams that would probably woop some of the middle of the range LHAC teams. But to say that B.Holsinger wouldn't make a single bit of difference against McLane is just ludicris. You can't tell me that a 6'10" post player, ranked as one of the top 5 underclassmen in the state of PA(and yes kids from McLane and the WPIAL are eligible for the rankings too) would make NO difference. I see your point to say that he might slow down CC up and down the court. But he makes up for it with his 8 blocks per game, 12 points and 15-20 rebounds, when healthy. The kid is a game changer and is still actively being recruited by a plethora of D-I schools despite his injury. I'm sorry, but you can't tell me that when healthy he wouldn't make any difference at all in a big game like that. I wouldn't be suprised if CC dismantled Ambridge and then upset McLane, even without B.H. This seems like a magical year for traino---you never know..WPIAL~Titan wrote:Having Brian Holsinger in the lineup wouldn't make a single bit of difference against McClane, or any other good team. WT

Titan, You seem reasonably well informed most of the time, but you clearly couldn't be more wrong about Brian Holsinger. You actually just suggested that CC would be better off without him. No one that has actually seen him play over the years would ever be that misinformed. Without having played but a handful of games since his freshmen year he is still one of the most highly recruited players in the state at any level. How many Division one coaches would it take to make you reconsider? What college do you follow? If it's Pitt, then ask them, as according to Coach Traino they have entered the mix just recently.

Xavier, Pitt, Penn State, South Florida, Florida, Princeton...just to name a few that he's being VERY actively recruited by. But according to WPIAL Titan, he would make NO difference against McLane???? WT has obviously never seen him play.

That scares me being a Pitt fan. Dixon will give a scholorship to anyone that has some spec of potential and currently thats why they have 8 losses no depth!!!!!!
But yes Brian Holsinger is a really really good HS bball player and in no way hurt this team he can only make it better considering that their depth really scares me if they are looking at a long term run!
