Patton has a decent team though. They took St. Michaels to 8 innings early in the season. Young but some talent. Baseball is a game where anything can happen on any given day. Just like the Pens in Detroit?

Legion All star, first rounds were held at Bedford today. Players that advance to the next round as far as I know are Paulsen (SS), Gdula (C)from St. Michael. Ivory (OF), and Olsavsky (C) from Patton. Swope (P) and Saylor (IF) from Claysburg. I hear of some controversy over the two catchers that made it? They didn't want to take 2 from Patton(Vescovi and Olsavsky) so they took Gdula insted despite Vescovi beating him in both 60 time and throws down to second. Gdula is a tank and can kill the baseball but at Bedford they didn't hit did they? I would take Gdula because of his hitting but im almost sure they did away with hitting in round 1.

This has been a whacky season so far. Bedford seems to have rebounded from last year and is playing well right now. Patton beat Westmont and Somerset back to back. Nanty Glo wins 3 of last 4 with loss coming to Richland 15-0. St. Michaels struggling lately but unleashing a hitting attack against Portage which has been getting good pitching most of the year. Claysburg shutting out Ebensburg and St. Michael and beating Somerset 12-4 and only beating Meyersdale 12-11 in nine innings. Cernics has shown signs of being really good at times and inconsistent at other times.

St. Michael has all home-grown kids from the FH area. How many other teams in this league can say that? Not many. Losing Kirby to Martella's really hurt their pitching and IF. 2 starters from last year and no pitching returning, that's why the Saints are taking their lumps this year. Also look at the schedule. What freakin' idiot with a woody against St.M. set up this schedule? Consecutive away games against Somerset, Westmont, Bedford, Claysburg, and Portage, with the Bedford / Claysburg rainout being scheduled for the SAME day? That schedule would be killer with the strength of previous years. Some of their kids don't even have FH JV experience, but came out for Legion. That goes to the character and integrity of the Saints' program and its coaching staff. Hats off, guys.

hey captain- look at the rosters from up north- i know ebensburg best and i think there roster is about a 10 block radius- put in naty glo spangler and patton- how homegrown do you you yhink these twams are-- like i said- about 10 blocks--- oh i forgot ebensburg has players from all over the south east- so captain before you say your team is homegrown get out and smell the roses--- the fan---

Not disagreeing about the character and integrity of the Saints program but:
A. Many teams in the league have lost key kids to the AAABA league (Westmont, Richland/Windber, Patton, Ebensburg most notably).
B. Several other teams in the league have played the exact same schedule rotation you mentioned (Somerset, Westmont, Bedford,Claysburg, Portage), no conspiracy there.
C. Several teams have doubled up with games on the same day to get caught up. Claysburg is doing it tomorrow (Sunday).
D. Using the PIAA baseball enrollments as a guideline (which doesn't exactly conform to Legion age limits but it certainly provides a legit comparison), here are the teams that draw from a similar number of players as St. Michael (basically half the league):
326 Ebensburg
308 Somerset
300 St. Michael
294 Patton
246 Lilly
201 Spangler
121 Portage
113 Nanty Glo
Note: For comparsion, Bedford has the largest territory in the league, drawing from five school districts comprised of 858 kids.
E. Bottom line, St. Michael is down this year. It happens.

Reread my last post. NO WHERE did I say St.M. was the ONLY team in this situation. I SAID "not many". I'm OK with your saying that a couple teams draw from a "10 block radius". Good for them. But don't give me that number crap you did and say it's equitable for most of the league. Somerset isn't as strong as it usually is, but they are still tough, and CAN and HAVE in the past drawn from an entire county, same as Bedford. Claysburg has kids from 4 districts on its roster. Westmont ditto. THESE, by no mere coincidence, are the TOUGHEST teams in the league this year. HOW can all the rest expect to put an equally strong team on the field? And, as far as the schedule, I realize most if not all the teams have the same difficulties with the scheduling of DH's on fields located 45 minutes to an hour apart on the same day, with weak or no pitching available. It does happen to others. I just said whoever put it together was a flippin' IDIOT and I stand on that observation. This league has been in existence a long, long time. It wouldn't take but a couple incompetents to ruin things for all. And don't make me out to be a know-all saviour of the league. I'm just like a lot of you who enjoy the sport in its pure fashion and would like it to continue putting the best "product" out on the fields for the enjoyment of ALL. To whom it may concern: Work on THAT for the future.

claysburg is on a roll they won both of there games yesterday.and more then like set to win there game today...Dave McMurtrie is pitching today for them...good luck claysburg

i can answer that question...it was the first game together they didn't have all of there player b/c tussey was still in the playoffs...it will be a different outcome today...and that enrollment stuff is not worth my time baseball is a sport numbers of enrollment what's that do for the game.. theres 9 players on the field and that all that matter..put ur best nine out there to compete aganst the other teams best nine...i'm sorry if that makes you upset..but like i said the enrollment thing i really don't care much for..it summer league let the kids play..
