Re: PSU and Pitt battling over Dieffenbach?
And you'd have one less Pitt kid with the 2nd DeCicco.
What about this don't you understand:
Penn State: 8
Ohio State: 4
Michigan: 1
West Virginia: 2
Boston College: 1
North Carolina: 1
Akron: 1
Arizona: 1
Notre Dame: 1
Pitt has not beaten Penn State in a head-to-head recruiting battle for a WPIAL kid since Elijah Fields committed on January 29, 2006.
His retort will be: "well look how many Pitt has gotten". I WOULD SURELY HOPE SO, CONSIDERING THEY DON'T GO AFTER ANYONE ELSE! And as for your remark about there being so much talent there in the recent years, I sure see a lot of 4 and 5 star players who disappeared even at PITT. Like Butch Cassidy said:"Who are those guys?????"

Re: PSU and Pitt battling over Dieffenbach?
What part can't YOU understand? PSU has only 10 WPIAL players on their roster. That's IT. TEN!! All you want to talk about are CERTAIN kids. TEN is TEN no matter how you look at it. When kids from the WPIAL start flocking to PSU, then tell me about it. Otherwise, PSU is averaging only 2 WPIAL players per year in their recruiting ( freshmen to 5th year seniors ). Where's the cherry picking on PSU's part.

Re: PSU and Pitt battling over Dieffenbach?
PSU goes into the WPIAL, offers scholarship to kids that they want, and they get them with rare exception.
It doesn't matter if it only adds up to 10, 50, or all 106 players on the roster. As TAE pointed out, it's been three years since a kid in the WPIAL who had an offer from both Penn State and Pitt chose Pitt over Penn State.

It doesn't change the fact that PSU has only 10 WPIAL kids on their roster. And like I predicted, you guys are saying that they get everybody they want from the WPIAL. Nice excuse for getting only 10 kids in 5 years.

Re: PSU and Pitt battling over Dieffenbach?
...Went back and checked out those 10 WPIAL kids on PSU's roster for 2009. Here they are:
...1) Jon Ditto So LB Wasn't he recruited as a TE? May not ever see the field for PSU. His coach at Gateway, Terry Smith, has connections with Penn State. Ditto got swayed to go to PSU by his high school coach.
...2) Mike Farrell FR T Never heard of him. From Shadyside Academy.
...3) Larry Federoff SR FB Never heard of him either. Hopewell
...4) Michael Fuhrman K FR N. Allegheny
...5) Sean Lee SR LB Upper Saint Clair
...6) Derek Moye SO WR Reciever on a running team in high school. Rochester
...7) Nick Sukay SO SAF What can I say? Will he ever blossom?
...8) Michael Yancich FR LB Lot of fanfare. Will see
...9) Jon Stewart SO DE Never heard of him. Norwin
...10) Stefan Wisniewski JR G Daddy played at PSU. Influenced by Daddy. Pittsburgh Central Catholic
...SO where are all these superstars that PSU bent over backwards to get???

I apologize for the subject change but is Jordan Hall (Jeanette) going to have any chance of playing time at OSU?

Re: PSU and Pitt battling over Dieffenbach?
Why does Penn State need to have a full roster of kids from the city of Pittsburgh? Very strange argument here on Moldy's part. See, Penn State wins football games. They don't need to have to rely on keeping local kids from taking better offers b/c they can't win 7 games a season in the worst conference in the Milky Way.

Re: PSU and Pitt battling over Dieffenbach?
No, they can't ATTRACT kids from the WPIAL, that's the problem. Quantity DOES mean something when the region you are recruiting is NEXT DOOR to your school. If PSU wins all those games, why don't WPIAL kids go there??? Of course you're telling us PSU can just come into the WPIAL and pick and choose who they want. That is bull. Ten kids in 5 years is all you need to know, and only about 4 of them are worth their salt.

Re: PSU and Pitt battling over Dieffenbach?
Own backyard? Moldo, they don't need to rely on kids from Pittsburgh. Did you know there was another city on the other side of the state? Did you know that past that city is the state of New Jersey, which also produces talent?
Other than Pryor and Bell, what 5-star WPIAL kids has PSU lost the sweepstakes for?
Did you look to see if PSU had offered those kids Pitt was able to attain? Thomas' went to Pitt (over UM and PSU) because those schools pulled his scholarship over his grades. Mason would be at PSU but there wasn't any room at the inn.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you really DO need to win games to keep up. I don't think you realize how bad Pitt really is, because I see the same games you see.
For all these great WPIAL kids (that you claim have been there over the past few years) that Pitt has gotten, who the hell are they? They can't even play at Pitt? Could it be possible that I am correct when saying that Dave Wannstedt is a very good human being but a terrible football coach?
For his claim PSU doesn't come in and get who they want:
2010 (so far):
==========
Paul Jones (5) - Penn State
Mike Hull (4) - Penn State

Re: PSU and Pitt battling over Dieffenbach?
Let's see if PSU took any other kids (which is heresy, apparently) other than the WPIAL recruits that Moldo thinks have some kind of magic specter that makes them better than other players.
2006:
========
Nate Bynum (5) - Pitt - NO (Took 1 TE: their top target Quarless)
Dorin Dickerson (5) - Pitt - YES (Took 1 CB: their top target AJ Wallace)
Elijah Fields (4) - Pitt - YES (ditto)
John Malecki (4) - Pitt - NO (Odrick, McEowen, Taylor)
Jason Pinkston (4) - Pitt - YES (ditto)
Nate Nix (4) - Pitt - NO (side note: Pitt was his only offer?) (how about Navorro Bowman in a trade versus a kid with 1 scholarship offer?)
2007:
==========
Chris Jacobson (5) - Pitt - NO (2 4-stars: Wisniewski, Walton)
Let's talk about Chris Jacobson. For a 5-star player, TWO SCHOOLS offered him a scholarship: Pitt and WVU
Brandon Lindsey (4) - Pitt - NO (Dailey and Stupar)
Dom DeCicco (4) - Pitt - NO (Sukay)
Miles Caragein (4) - Pitt - NO (Latham)
2008:
============
Shane Hale (5) - Pitt - NO (Crawford)
Lucas Nix (5) - Pitt - I'm pretty sure he did, for some reason Scout says 'no' (Pannell)
Jonathan Baldwin (5) - Pitt - NO
Cameron Saddler (4) - Pitt - NO (Beachum)
2009:
============
Brock DeCicco (4) - Pitt - NO (Gilliam)
Dan Mason (4) - Pitt - NO (Carson)
Tyrone Ezell (4) - Pitt - NO (no DEs)
Todd Thomas (4) - Pitt - NO (Justin Brown)
2010 (so far):
==========
Aaron Donald (4) - Pitt - NO (PSU in good shape with Shariff Floyd and DaQuan Jones and Evan Hailes)
2006:
