Thanks for the responses guys. It just troubles me that when I come home for Thanksgiving to find out that we lost to Ridge (again), something that NEVER happened back in "my day".

southpaw wrote:ham, the run really went from about 1982-2007. Bedford had loads of talent pre 1999. Williams, Washington, Marshall, the Benbows, Blevins, the Cottle Brothers, Borosky, Koontz and Brambly, and Caro just to name a few pre 1999.
I was using my recent memory. 1999 is about as clear as I can remember that football season. Anything pre-that would be the lights going out at CH one year(or maybe it was PC?) and going to some game where the snow was piled up alone the sidelines at Mansion Park.

But I do agree. We didn't realize how good it was until it ran out. And boy did it all run out in a hurry.

The 'lights out' game was at CH in 1993(?) when CH actually had a decent team. I remember some CH fans holding up signs that said 'Bill Who?' Benbow ran all over them that night. Only the lights going out slowed him down.

The game at Mansion was most likely a playoff game at the end of the '93 season against FH. I don't remember the snow, but it was cold, Benbow would run to the sidelines, puke, and go back onto the field. FH won 35-6 or something like that.

If you look at the entire history of Bedford football, since the 1930's at least, I don't think you will find a losing stretch like the current one. Sad to see. There are athletes on these teams. But they are not disciplined in their duties on the field and don't have the kind of intensity I expect. I'm hoping this 10th grade class can bring some of that back. Like boxer said, there is talent in these younger grades. If they have good coaching and stick with it I think Bedford can get back to where they were.

I was at the "lights out" game also. A transformer blew out near halftime, I forget before or after, but after some discussions with the officials, both teams decided to continue playing! I remember CH had Bedford deep in the Bedford (dark) end. Benbow took off like a streak, the QB heaved it out there, BB had a defender draped all over him, and still caught the ball on outstretched fingers and outran the D to the end zone! Then he went on later to making Pa. license plates? Wasted talent.

Two of the best Bedford/FH games I ever saw occurred in the same season. In 1994, Bedford came to FH for game 3 of that season and beat the Rangers 8-0, scoring the game winning TD with less than two minutes to play. Bedford went undefeated and remained that way until their 11-0 winning streak came to an end at Windber Stadium when the Rangers beat the Bisons 33-6 in the District5/6 playoffs.
