Re: Iowa-OSU
I watched that whole game today. I guess that's just more proof that I couldn't care less about the national title scene (Fla/Ark, UT/OU at the same time as OSU) but I digress.
That OL is young, but Pryor is terrible. His growth is amazingly slow, and he still seems like he does not understand where the WRs are going. Even that TD where Posey snagged it from Sanzenbacher was a horrible decision from Pryor. The one INT he threw in the 2nd half, he could have ran for 35 yards and instead of that he threw it up for grabs when the WR was completely out of position.
We keep talking about this vaunted OSU DL, where were they today against an average Purdue OL?
The beat OSU by spreading out the WRs and by getting pressure on an erratic Pryor, forcing him to make plays. Guess who else will do that to Ohio State? Michigan can and will, and so will Penn State.
The point of that last part was to show Tressel's stubborness. He will not change his offensive approach, and he will not change his staff. I was extremely irritated, as a B10 fan, when Tressel was obliterated by speed a la Florida, and this guy seriously had the audacity to tell the media that he did not feel OSU needed to change their offseason conditioning to increase team speed. How in the bejesus can you think that this is rational? What it is is irresponsibility.
Another big issue that became very apparent is the Ohio State QB situation behind Pryor. Do they even have another QB on scholarship? The staff promised Pryor the keys to the kingdom and they chased those 2 backups out of town last season. The Ohio State fans are calling for Tressel's head, want Pryor benched, and are calling him "Cryor".
I just continually get the impression that Jim Tressel does not take losing very seriously, and doesn't feel changes need to be examined when the team loses. That is poor coaching, no matter how you try and spin it.
As a B10 fan, I root for the whole B10. It is in Penn State's interest for Ohio State or Michigan or Indiana to be undefeated when PSU plays them. So that being said, Tressel drives me nuts as a coach, and I am sick of his irresponsibility.

Re: Iowa-OSU
After watching the SEC today- I am so glad I did not throw away my copy of SI. That was a good primer to this weekend games. I think after today people see why the SEC is the best conference.
And the psu / minn. was a complete joke. psu was not impressive at all.

The Ancient Enemy wrote:The coaching at Iowa is too inconsistent. Stanzi is less than average as a QB. The defensive secondary is suspect. They have no WRs. They cannot and will not beat Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio.
And he proclaims to be the BC know it all! I love it!!!!

Re: Iowa-OSU
After watching todays game, the quote from above was quite the opposite. Hopefully they will do the same at the horseshoe.

Re: Iowa-OSU
Did I miss something? Did Iowa beat Ohio State today?
Watched some of the Iowa / Wisc game and Stanzi threw an excellent pass on that TD. Isn't it a little strange how shocker hates the Big Ten yet watches all the Big Ten games. Maybe somebody on this site was correct when they said that Pitt fans no longer root for Pitt, they root against Penn State.

Re: Iowa-OSU
Your post about Stanzi and the D was incorrect. He isnt as bad as you think. His stats were pretty good vs Wisky. Did you not read my next post about doing the same at the Horseshoe. That is what you missed.

Re: Iowa-OSU
What was the unimpressive part of the Penn State vs. Minnesota game today? The fact that Minnesota had 3 first downs through 3 quarters? Or the fact Penn State beat a team like you should? Penn State was up 13 at half got the ball early in the 3rd quarter and put together a long drive to kill the entire 3rd quarter and put Minnesota away. Unimpressive????? Don't kid yourself.

Re: Iowa-OSU
Or the fact that all-world WR Eric Decker had 1 catch, and the only reason he had that one was b/c of a missed INT? Students chickened out though, so that's the real story. Attendance is just abyssmal.

And it was Homecoming. And not an early start, when students have trouble getting up on Saturday for a noon game. At 3:30 on Homecoming, where were the students? The announcers even brought it up.
