Oh and if psu is SOOO much better than Pitt, why would you waste your time arguing? You Pitters are wrong about a couple things, and here is the facts. 1. Pitt is the last school to turn down the rivalry renewal. 2. Joe Paterno advocated Pitt as a possible 12th B10 program. 3. Paterno is absolutely the end-all when it comes to scheming for the opponent.

Now, none of us here are big JayPa supporters, but the guy DOES want to open up the offense more. That is handcuffed by Joe. Joe makes the final decisions on virtually everything. It may appear to you that he does not, but Paterno is absolutely, 100% running this program, and is the final word on EVERY DECISION. That being said... I am the first to admit that it has HURT Penn State that Joe is the judge, jury, and executioner. It absolutely has. Do you think it is Jay and Galen Hall who crawl into a shell with a 3 point lead? Give me a break. That is classic Joe Paterno. It is also classic Joe Paterno to play very close to the vest in big games, and especially road games. Even in the rare occasions where the staff DOES convince him to run certain sets in certain instances, you can tell that Paterno is very uncomfortable. Penn State fans occasionally refer to the "Brown Offense", and no, we ain't talkin' about pooping in anyone's pants. It's a knock on Joe being retardedly conservative on the road, and wanting to run 3 dives and punt the football.

I cannot stress enough how off-base the critics are when they say Joe is just a figurehead. He's not. And like I said already... he has cost them many, many games by being as powerful as he is.

As far as him "padding his stats" with Temple and Rutgers... You better take a look at the teams Bowden beat for 30 years. Keep in mind how bad that ACC used to be. Bobby Bowden played Temple and Rutgers EVERY WEEK in the form of Wake and Duke and whoever else.

I disagree with your point about Bowden. In the 90s, his FSU teams were as dominant, if not more so, than USC this decade. They finished in the Top 4 for like 15 straight years. The ACC was not great, but they were not that bad. FSU was just that good. Look at who they scheduled in non-conference. Look at how they played in bowl games. Has Pete Carroll padded his stats this year? FSU was just totally dominant.

I couldn't agree with you more TAE. If anyone thinks that Joe Pa just sits around and doesn't do anything they just need to read the recent Sports Illustrated article about him (link provided at the bottom for your reading pleasure). Which I thought was actually a well written article and I am not the biggest of Joe Pa fans for many of the reasons TAE stated. Also, Florida State was for sure dominate in those years you stated Wildcat, but Bowden shouldn't even be close to wins as Joe Pa, he counts his wins at a 1AA school for crying out loud! (and I can already hear the keyboards exploding ready to respond about Joe and his wins...)

I honestly don't care about the wins record. Paterno can have it for what its worth. The only reason those two are competing for it is because they have coached for so long. I think both feel it will cement them as the greatest college coach of all time, and I don't think either can actually claim that. I was just responding to the idea that Bowden's ACC wins were comparable to Paterno's wins over teams like Temple. That is ludicrous.

Calling one coach the greatest is like comparing apples and oranges. There are just too many variables such as location, years coached, opponents played, conference played in, monetary support towards the program, facilities. There are the upper tier of coaches all-time and no doubt that Paterno and Bowden are well within that category. I would say the best coaches of all time include:

-Tom Osborne
-LaVell Edwards
-Bo Schembechler
-Joe Paterno
-Bear Bryant
-Bobby Bowden
-Pete Carrol
-Bill Snyder
-Woody Hayes

I think all of these coaches can have a stake at being the best but they all worked in entirely different circumstances.
