Listen. I know you have inherent hatred for me because Carmen Felus was my basketball coach at a St Francis camp, because Justin Wheeler went to Penn State, and because Joe Carpenter beats Penn Cambria 86-15 every season, but give it a rest. When a kid is told by Penn State and Michigan that his grades are not good enough, and he magically commits to Pitt, WHO OBVIOUSLY ACCEPTED HIM, what does that tell you about the admissions requirements?

Pitt's are lower than Penn State's. Penn State has lost a lot of great players because of their admissions. I'm not saying Pitt's are equal to Clemson or Oklahoma or Ole Miss, but they ARE lower than Penn State's.

And psu's are a heck of alot lower than alot of schools! Would D. Clark have gone to Northwestern, ND, Stanford, Navy, Army, Harvard, Yale, or Penn? Probably not because of their higher academic standards than psu.

Yes some of these schools I mentioned are not football factories but that should tell you the standards set by good schools. You could probably put Pitt and psu in the same boat when it comes to academic standards.

If a kid is going for an education first and is a great student, he will probably pick a good school. If he is a great athlete with a fair to decent academic record he will go to a major football school/factory. And most of those, if not all will make execeptions for him to get in.

ND, Stanford, NW, and Penn State do not make exceptions.

Penn State's requirements are lower than those other schools I just mentioned. Clark would not have gotten accepted there. BUT... for the 27th time... Daryll Clark was a 2-star QB. He was not some must-get kid. The staff told him to go to Kiski and get his grades up. He did. He provided weekly reports on his progress, and finally got accepted to Penn State. Even then, he was never looked at as a kid who would ever play.

I can see the comparison to ND, Stanford, NW but Harvard and Yale? They dont give athletic scholarships for one, and two, they dont play in the same league as Penn State. They also do not even participate in the I-AA playoff system. So....????

So??? dont tell me ups is taking top notch academic kids! if they were there football program would be as good as harvard and yale! They are a football factory, taking 1,2,3,4,5, star kids who will make them a buck or two in attendance. It doesn't matter what division they are in. If acadamics are the priority then football is not!

If psu is all about acadademics you would see a mediocre at best football program. D1, D2, D3, 1AA, it doesnt matter. Penn State makes as many exceptions as any other football factory. Spin or think what you want. Like I said before, District 5 finest ever, never graduated from psu.

They do NOT make exceptions. This has hurt them in a lot of cases, because kids have interest and the staff gets their grades and turns them away. You can hate on Joe all you want, but those kids graduate and have good academics.

Shocker, this could not have come on a better day. They sent a kid to prep school TODAY because of his grades!

Right now, Shyquan Pulliam is holding out for a PSU offer. He has offers to a lot of schools who will take him right now. Pitt is one of them. The Penn State staff told him they want his next set of grades to see if he is committed to academics. Hopefully he will get accepted, because he is a great player who is totally under the national radar.

Darrell Givens was one of the top CB recruits in the country last season, would have played significantly this year, was committed to PSU and had to go to elsewhere in June. Why? Because in his final set of grades, he was not academically eligible for Penn State. That was a big blow at the time, but Morris has really stepped up. (another Freshman CB)

Here ya go, Chief. Compare and contrast Penn State verus these other supposed "football factories". As you can see, Pitt's grad rates are also very good, and that is something you should be proud of.

And people say Bob Stoops is a legit candidate for Notre Dame? I would NEVER hire Bob Stoops if I was the ND AD. Look at those numbers!

And Hawaii? 42% of your players graduate? Are you serious?

29% of the black players at Arizona graduate. And people seriously think Mike Stoops deserve an extension? That is a complete embarassment that he doesn't care about those kids.

TAE, I want to hear a cogent line of reasoning that can convince me that PSU's high graduation rate is the result of academic rigor, and not as a result of watered down "rocks for jocks" programs like Travel/Tourism, Parks and Recreation, and Turf Management Science. Those programs are designed for borderline students. Virtually every football player majors in programs such as these, which are designed for the purpose of getting students through college. To use your argument, just like full stadiums generate money, programs like these generate $$$ for the University so that marginal students who can't even tie their shoes and write a coherent sentence can say they received a college degree...They also generate artificial and inflated graduation rates, which you poor Nitters use to try to mitigate the damage done by the weekly police blotter.

PSU's admissions standards are "high", higher than Pitt's, so high that they wouldn't take Shady McCoy? So high that they wouldn't take Jon Baldwin, Larry Fitzgerald, Rod Rutherford? Keep telling yourself that and keep listening to your "inside sources" about Shady's recruitment. Mmm, KOOL AID tastes good, doesn't it? PSU fails to land quality recruits, then they fall back on the excuse that "Our institution is so rigorous that we could NEVER accept such poor academic performance." WHAT A JOKE. It is reasoning like that is all part of the PSU brainwashing and prevailing arrogance (which is actually deleriousness) throughout those who are part of or even just fans of the PSU football program. YOU GUYS ACTUALLY BELIEVE THAT STUFF.

Here are two names for you: Joe Jerevicious and Floyd Wedderburn. True scholars.

Let's not even talk about the "high standards" at the 50 or so PSU BRANCH CAMPUSES around the Commonwealth. High standards at PSU-Mount Alto and PSU-Behrend, and PSU-Great Valley, and PSU-New Ken...YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME.

Whoever mentioned PSU in the same paragraph, much less the same sentence, as Stanford, Notre Dame, and the Ivies needs to pass me some of what they're smoking.
