Re: My Playoff Scenario - Completely Irrational
I'm more a fan of all conference champions getting in, as seen in Yahoo Sports and other columns. I think they should take it a step further and have each team play everyone in their conference and then fill the remaining games in with non-conference battles. For example, the 12 team conferences would play 11 games against conference opponents and then 1 game against non-conference FBS schools. This allows rivalries like Florida-Florida State, all the Notre Dame games, Georgia Tech-Georgia, etc. take place. If anything this makes every week in the regular season mean even more than it does now. Allow the at-large bids to be determined by a panel that takes into account the quality of victories and not the name of your institution. You can eliminate conference championship games, thus cutting out an extra week on the season. Start the season the last weekend of August and play till the 2nd weekend of November. Take a week off and play round one of the playoffs thanksgiving weekend. Play the quarterfinals the next weekend and then take two weeks off for mid-terms and resume for Christmas semi-finals and a New Year's Day national championship game. But oh well, one can dream.

football isn't basketball...
If 16 teams make it, use the BCS standings. Why the heck should Troy or ECU be in a small field? We're talking 16, not 64. Those teams don't have a shot to be Cinderella. IF they make the top 16 in the BCS standings then they obviously only lost 0 or 1 game. This makes a team like that legit enough to compete as seen with Boise and TCU this year. If you go 9-3 in the MAC, CUSA, etc.... you aren't good enough to be in this type of playoff. I really, really am opposed to seeing those schools get in. Use the BCS standings or a system like it...if you make the top 16, you are in. If you don't...sorry. If Troy State wants in, be good enough to go undefeated or have only 1 loss. Undefeated puts ANY team in the top 16 I promise you. If Middle Tennessee went undefeated, they would be in the top 16.... If you can't earn your way in, you shouldn't be in it. A 9-3 CUSA team is not the same as a 9-3 SEC team.

Re: My Playoff Scenario - Completely Irrational
Yeah, I feel you, but it makes almost half of the football season meaningless. I agree that a school from the MAC, Sun Belt, etc are no match for a BCS school most days, but I'd put a 10-2 and even some 9-3 MWC schools against a BCS school.
Perhaps somewhere down the line they could expand the BCS conferences sans-12 teams to 12 and close out the other conferences sending them back to FCS or just leaving them completely out of the BCS loop by not allowing the BCS conferences to schedule games against them.
I really don't care as long as we get us a true on field national champion.

If you take the conference champs, ND does not get in unless they go undefeated.

ND is a completely different animal and that's their own doing, they'd obviously have a different set of qualifying criteria as they do now.Crimsoncrush67 wrote:If you take the conference champs, ND does not get in unless they go undefeated.
