As someone who grew up and played in the area I will always follow and cheer for the area to succeede. However, with that being said, competition is absolutely relative. I'm all for having pride in area athletics, but don't let that turn into foolish pride. Simply put, if you are playing in a stronger district against better atheletes, better basketball players, and better coaches you're not going to put up the same numbers as you did against inferrior competition. Could there possibly be exceptions? Sure. But 9 times out of 10 athletes who put up huge numbers against inferrior competition and not going to put up similar numbers against better athletes and players who are more prepared on a nightly basis.

Back in the day of the nastys it was somewhat better but the teams those kids played 'up in them thar hills' bordered on pitiful. But don't try telling anyone from there or the ultra pitiful westpac and expect them to agree with you----because that's all they know. And to them it is competitive. Just like it's competitive to the local newspaper sports department -- all of which are westpac grads. They idolize the kids that score a million against the Turkeyfoots and Elk Licks of the world --that's all they know.

With JHS out of the WPIAL, that's just the way it is up here anymore. Now we are all the same.

Alright, what conference, district, league, or whatever should everyone run and join so that the "competition" is the best and the league is the greatest, the scores count and the stats are accurate???? The WestPac schools, their teams, players, coaches, and communities get it. It's a small school conference specifically for the smaller single A schools that exsist in the area. As stated in the previous post, competition is relevant. LHAC is prdominately AA and so on.......
Every school, league, district..has player that they believe to be of quality based on the areas talent. The bottom line, not many actually go on to play college ball, anywhere. So what.......... So whoever wants to score 50 points against whatever team, good for them......no different that football rushing yards and tackles.

If a kid is decent in the West PAc or ICC or LHAC or WPIAL or wherever, GOOD FOR THEM.

So, someone let the rest of us know where everyone should play. We'll bus the kids in and play the "real games" with those selected and the rest of the area will play intramurals.

Psycho, while i can agree that the westpac both north and south may not carry strong teams throughout the conference there are a number of players that can compete very easily in the wpial. These kids continue to enhance their skills playing in aau tournaments in the pittsbugh area, ohio and west virginia beating teams other than the bsas. So before you throw every player under the bus may be you should come out and see who has game.

First of all it burns a little to see a local have that title doesn't it wpial.You know I personally have played against some pretty good talent in my day and I wouldn't agree with your statement about the quad AAAA opinion on the nastasi boys.Psycho the bashing of west pac and bball around here isn't a real bright one.I believe all 3 teams that came out of district5 "A" last year won there first round games and took the others down to the wire,of which alot were privates from cities.One other thing titan the wpial would get SPANKED if they played in philly, those privates would destroy the wpial most years.It's all relative someone is always bigger than you so quit looking down your noses at the area in bball.Remember shalers best player came from a district 6 school!

Flashback to 2008-9 season. Arguably the area's best player, Sr. Jordan Miller, from Central Cambria, lights up the scoreboard for, what was it, 42 against the Rangers? Only problem, he was outscored by a SOPHOMORE for FH. Back in the day, guys like Denny Rolla were in the top scorers in the entire area, averaging around 30 a game, maybe more, but their TEAM was neither undefeated or all that dominant. High scoring is a relevant thing.

I've now got 3 players on the watch list, Gaunt, Gibbons and Zimmerman (in no particular order, other than alphabetical) . As the season progresses, Gaunt and Zimmerman have been steady leaders for their respective teams and Gibbons has gotten into quite a rhythm for Shade. Maybe another 2 weeks will add another player to the list, someone may drop off or one of these 3 may float to the top.
