Anyone know the difference between first degree murder and other murders? Murder in the first degree is when you PLAN to kill someone. Other murders are the non-premeditated killing of someone. One takes planning to do, one is a haphazard event. This is what makes the Scirotto case so different from the Sheard case. Sheard's problem appears to have stemmed from a unpremeditated plan. He did not go out that night planning to beat someone up. It just happened. This is totally different from the Scirotto case. After a brief altercation in the street, Scirotto followed the other guy to find out where he lived, went back to the dorms, gathered up about 7 of his football buddies, and returned to the apartment with the INTENT of getting revenge. They BURST into the guy's apartment and all of them beat the crap out of a couple of kids. Couldn't Paterno SEE that what happened was PLANNED? This makes the Scirotto incident even more dastardly, in that it was planned. It's one thing, for example, to have two guys start fighting at a wedding reception. It's another thing for guys to show up at a reception specifically looking to beat someone up. Pre-determination is what really sets the Scirotto case apart from the Sheard incident. And Paterno looked the other way.

You can tell it's the offseason when people are comparing crimes by different college players and how one is different from the other. The season can't start soon enough.

Not taking anything away from the severity of some of the crimes committed by both Penn State and Pitt players, however, at least Pitt, Penn State, and Texas can stay clear of NCAA violations. It seems that each day another program is being investigated or sanctioned against. Michigan, WVU, Florida, Florida State, Alabama, USC, North Carolina, and the list just keeps on growing. It just makes me wonder how many violations are going undetected by the NCAA and how many programs are really being run improperly.

Look, I'm a huge Joe Pa fan but I'm not convinced there has not been a plethora of situations that have been swept under the carpet over the years. The same goes for Texas.
Moldo, let's not pretend the non-football students in the Scirrotto instance are not at least 50% of the issue here. Didn't they punch his gf or his brother or something? I'm sure those kids are not nearly as innocent as they claimed. Even still, didn't he get a 3 game suspension? Should he have been kicked off the team for a fight? I really don't think he should have been, and I don't think Sheard should miss one single game until the case is closed.
The public cries so much about cracking down on these kids. But, even if there IS wrongdoing on their part, how old is Sheard? 20? 22? He has to learn from experiences just like the rest of us have. He has to learn when to walk away, and the only way to do that is to get thrown into the situation. It's a shame the police were called and all that, but give the kid a break. They are not angels by any stretch, but these kids are high-profile players who at the end of the day are just like every other 20 yr old kid who has experienced very little in terms of mental development. We can't take away his senior season because of allegations. If it comes back where he completely instigated the fight, gave a 12 yr old orphan a piledriver, and then hit Randy Savage over the head with a steel chair, suspend him.

From Statecollege.com: Sophomore wide receiver Curtis Dukes got into an argument early Sunday morning (on his way to church?????) outside McDonald's in downtown State College with incoming freshman basketball player Taran Buie. According to State College Borough police (not to be confused with the Pittsburgh police), the two were cited with "intent to cause a public inconvenience" and were observed throwing punches and shoving one another. NO disciplinary action has been announced for either player, but you would think they're on the hot seat. OH MY GOD!!!!!! NOT THE HOT SEAT!!!!!!!!!!

First of all, it was Curtis Drake.
Secondly, there's a lot of tension at McDonald's when they switch from breakfast to lunch menus. Maybe Buie jumped the line and Drake wanted a McMuffin. Then when it was Drake's turn to order, they switched to the lunch menu. So many factors, so many factors.

Its the same tension here in Lancaster County only its Franklin and Marshal players and don't get me started on those hooligans. You don't want to be on the Manheim Pike or downtown on East King at the switching of the menus.

I think that Sherard's punishment should be the same as what Drake will get...Sherard should be made to walk to State College after sitting out the first series of Pitt's opening game, then help Drake pick up trash at The Erector Set on Sunday morning.
Buie should definitely skate on this one because it's punishment enough having to play basketball for Awful Eddie's crew. At worst, Buie should be forced to further embarass himself by playing every minute of every 20+ point blowout loss, which should be over half of the Nit's games.

That was the first post of Titan's that has been funny in the last year.
Just kind of shocked he didn't slide in something about his track accomplishments.
Quick straw poll of folks reading this thread-----How many of you were ever in a fist fight and how many of you were arrested and charged with harassment/disorderly/assault?
Not like it used to be !!

And what the heck is "intent to cause a public inconvenience"? By the way, the last time McDonald's was mentioned on this site, it had to do with a dumpster and Tamba Hali's mother.
