Re: 13-9
Where did I ever say I am happy with the current coaching staff or how things stay status quo? I've been calling for Paterno to go for 15 years and want them to go outside of the current staff to do it. What I basically said is I'm not sure how you can act like you know everything that is going to happen with a team when you've probably seen 16 plays on sportscenter this year.
You do the same with high school football teams you've seen no games of because you base it off of reputation. Sure that works sometimes, but don't sit here and tell me that a Penn State team is going to win 8 games when you haven't even really seen them play. Might you be right? Sure you could be, but don't come off like you are the knowitall of PSU sports if you don't see the games. You based a few things off of Temple highlights where the D ends came up the field too far. Ok, well mistakes are made. They didn't play their best game and it was against Temple, but they didnt' give up 31 points they gave up 2 TD's early, then shut them down and settled down. Is it what most fans expected against Temple? Nope, but I'm not ready to write off the year based on it either
You did the same thing when Big Ten Expansion was being discussed. I mentioned that I'd love to see them go to 14 teams when it was originally discussed and you basically shot it down and say it will never happen and laid out all kinds of reasons why it wouldn't. A month later your tune changed when you heard it was very possible. All I am saying is give it time. This team has some very young kids in key positions. Will they win it all this year? No, but they are far from horrible, terrible, awful.
I have loved what I have seen from players in very key positions this year. Are they blowing teams out? Not even close. But, they have showed me more overall that Daryll Clark led teams did in most games. I think there is a lot of positives thus far this year.

Re: 13-9
PSU didn't give up 31 points??? What's the significance of that? I read in the Tribune today that the last time Temple beat Penn State was in 1941. Now I'm not a history major, but that was before Pearl Harbor. That's better than Jerry Seinfeld's vomit streak. And now the series has been extended for at least 3 more years. Wonderful. And at Beaver Stadium yesterday, alot of fans were dressed for a "whiteout", which is normally done for "marquee" games. So is Temple now considered one of the "Big Games" of the year?

Re: 13-9
PSU did play good defense yesterday, but do you think Temple's disappearing act on offense in the 2nd half had anything to do with the fact that their STARTING QB was out of the game?

There was a mistake on the ticket, saying for everyone to wear white. It wasn't a planned one and they omitted it too late for them to change it.El-Moldo wrote:And at Beaver Stadium yesterday, alot of fans were dressed for a "whiteout", which is normally done for "marquee" games. Their starting QB played the whole game. It was the running back that was hurt in the 3rd quarter.WPIAL~Titan wrote:PSU did play good defense yesterday, but do you think Temple's disappearing act on offense in the 2nd half had anything to do with the fact that their STARTING QB was out of the game?

Re: 13-9
Hey Kirk, how many conferences have 14 teams in them? You saying "I'd like to see 14 teams in the Big Ten" is not a prediction, bud, its an opinion. You're gonna have to do better than that.
Where are you getting this "I dont watch games'" bull****? I told you I saw the Temple TD runs on ESPN.com on their highlights. Unlike you, I dont rewind the games until I find the TDs and analyze them, apparently. Since you have seen so much greatness from key positions, explain to me how 91 got turned inside on that TD run without anyone blocking him inside? He ignored the ball carrier and went after the OT while the RB scampered around him when he had his back turned. Yeah, sure, "one play", right? That's the difference between a win and a loss sometimes, the game was tight, and they certainly played horrible in that first half. But then again, Jack Crawford is touted as being all-conference, right? 90 didn't do much better when he was over there. That DE play in those key scenarios is just a microcosm of a bigger coaching concern.
What the heck HS teams dont I watch? Are you saying that I base my fearless forecast predictions off of reputation and not actually seeing Tussey Mountain play? How many Homer Center games have YOU seen this year, or ever? You're really gonna need to come up with a much better argument than this. Then again, even Shocker called you out and you couldn't defend yourself, so I'm really not all that surprised.
And you've wanted Joe gone for 15 years? Really, you wanted Joe gone the year after they should have won a national championship in 1994?

Re: 13-9
IMHO there were some upsides in the game (albiet not greatness that PSU fans are expecting). And suprisingly enough it was coaches decisions that I was happy about (excluding galen hall that useless piece of monkey $h!+) It took forever but finally bradley made the call to bench Gbaydu, why the h-e-double hockey sticks did it take him sooooo long to figure out that he was playing Gbaydu infront of at least 2 different backers that were better. Once Mauti got put in it seemed like he was around the ball on every play and was flying around the field a-la Lavar Arrington, and even frosh Kaihri Fortt got in there and shamed Gbaydu's slow unexciting play. Sure a starting lb corps of Colasanti, Stupar, and Mauti might not be the best trio PSU has ever had but thats the best trio they have right now to put on the field. Then we got a healthly dose of Jordan Hill in there to put some pressure on the interior line and he out played captain Ogbu.

Because the coaches are comfortable and content and it is getting worse every season up there.

Re: 13-9
THe good news in all of this is JoePa's contract is up in 2012 and i just can't see him extending it. The bad news is that JoePa's contract isn't up until 2012 and thats 2 years of wasted talent that we are seeing from some of those younger guys who are getting playing experience.
BTW TAE, you're wins question:
Illinois, Minnesota, Indiana, all SHOULD be easy wins. Then Michigan, Northwestern, and Michigan State are winnable games. Am I saying they will win all 3, no. However, all those games will be at the Beav and the crowd noise should be good enough to steal at least one of those games. Maybe all 3, but I am an optimist.
