D-6 in my opinion has a Beef. I think they deserve a 5th qualifier more then D-7 derserves a 7th. But he (marko) has looked to go after the D-5 3rd qualifier. I agree it should go to a 16 team format before taking D-5 3rd.

D5 has had their 3rd place finisher advance for over a generation, I can't see PIAA removing that. It even saved a returning state champ 1 year.

D5 - 12, D6 - 23, D7 - 35, means D7 has 1/2 the schools, thus will get 1/2 the entrants, after the minimum 3 rule is applied. Unfortunately the PIAA doesn't/rarely considers prior results in their allocations.

Tator is just playing games, May has losses to Bennett of Hyndman and Claycomb of Everett, so even his superiority over CR/NS/TM wrestlers is in doubt. Let alone the big 5 mentioned earlier.

I will give him this - he has a win over a Township wrestler, so he shouldn't be the lowest seeded wrestler at the weight.

im not taking anything away from any of the top teams. but how can you know for sure they will not have any district champs? otten at 45 looks very good to win it and mihelcic at 35 has a chance. they are still a young team but deserve more credit for their hardwork

Since when does Dave Marko (or any coach) have a say in how the PIAA runs their regional tournaments? Laughable to think a coach could even think he could change something at that level. It would take the entire coaches association statewide to get the PIAA to even considerchanges. Changes are made through the district committee. They are not going to eliminate a third qualifier going to regionals....upsets happen in District semifinals and to eliminate a potential state qualifier would be ludicrous.

If wrestling people want to make changes how about this one....why are the team dual classifications dictated by the PIAA's "Individual" classification rules? In other words, why aren't we in a 3 or 4 classification system for the team duals, using the same formula in place for all other team sports and then use the two class system for individual championships.

I'll use this weeks duals as an example: You wouldn't see Somerset and Northern Bedford or Claysburg and Penn Cambria or Huntingdon meeting in ANY other TEAM sport in a district playoff....but they will in wrestling because they carry the individual classification system rules over into a TEAM playoff.

imo Otten has a chance to win districts, but Berchick would be the favorite @ 145. After Somerset's Darr (or perhaps Lohr) 135 is a wide open weight, I'd say Mihelcic has a chance to place or he could lose 2 matches early. I don't even see a 3rd legit possibility for SW regionals on the team.

As far as giving Shade more credit, I think that it has been mentioned that they have improved from where they were - see even last year Otten's 4th place finish leading the team. But we'll have to see at Windber how the team places, as there are a few Bedford county teams that are down this year and Shade might be able to avoid the cellar.

Haha! My name pops up at the craziest places for some reason. Not to worry odoyle, I have, not now nor ever had had designs of District 6 taking the 3rd qualifier from District 5. I was part of a committee that attacked District 6 getting its 5th qualifier back, but through the route of expanding the regional bracket to 15 or 16, not taking a qualifier from anyone. Based on the percentages, District 6 is more deserving of a 5th qualifier than District 5 is of a 3rd qualifier, but the PIAA has the "rule of 3" for all districts to qualify at least 3 wrestlers to the regional tournament. That said, my only interest is worrying about our district's kids and our number of qualifiers. It is a ridiculous situation when our district only has 4 qualifiers to the regional tournament and we hope to get it changed in the near future. It should have happened this year considering we had the support of District 5, 6 and 7 to move to a 15 man bracket, but the PIAA decided they know more about what is good for our regional tournament than what we all know.

mihelcic did have a bad match and i am not making any excuses. he has a chance to place but i am not saying he definatly will, considering his performance last year at districts. as far as otten i say he will be an underdog, but in my personal opinion he is stronger quicker and has the same if not better technique than berchick. and ive never seen him get tired yet this year in a match. seems like his heads in it to win it this year but we will see when the tournament comes around of course. Although, just to say he doesnt have a chance is completly absurd
