Bedford recently past Ridge as having the lowest paid coaches in the area!

I remember being at Ridge as a coach and not getting paid all that well. I mean it was terrible. Is it still that way SOuth??

your right, Bedford didn't know what they had till it was gone.

SHoemaker---was and is the best coach ever at Bedford football. He established a legacy and great tradition.

Burkett---was the heart and soul of the wrestling program....even when Creps was there, Burket was the reason for all the wins. He brought all the enthusiasm and work ethic. Very highly respected by those who know much about the program.

Black -- had deep runs into the playoffs. Finished on a couple of rough seasons but for sure would have had these boys over the last couple of years with winning records.

Waugerman... very successfull with the program but his son should be just as successfull.

Creps will be back for football, I feel certain. I take my hat off to the guy for coming back after the way the school board treated him. What disrespect I feel they showed him after all he has done for Bedford.
I would like to see Kane and Waugerman back on the sidelines too, but I doubt that will happen. They need some assistants to light a fire under the kids and smack them around a bit.

Football- you can't argue that Dean McGee made Bedford football what it was and Max added to that and made his niche, not easy to do since he basically ran the same system that Dean had for years

Wrestling- Ed Clark was the best wrestling coach ever at Bedford, talk to the old Bedford wrestlers from the 60's and 70's and the tell you the same.

Basketball- Royce Waltman a legend need I say more!

Baseball- Bedford has traditionally been strong in baseball and sent more atheletes to college in baseball than all other sports and Gary Waugerman was the man behind that and Scott is cut out of the same mold.

My point is that these programs were established years ago under the best coaching this county has ever had ( two hall-of-famers and nationally renown coach) and the winning tradition was carried on by Shoemaker, Creps, Black, and Waugerman.

you are absolutely correct. My post was just aimed at the generations that would be on bleachercoaches. The coaches you mentioned did lay the ground work.

I agree the inexperience in coaching is what is hurting bedford right now, but the answer isn't to get all the guys back that were once great. Not many coaches were great coaches from day 1. Give the new guys a chance, it may take a few years but let them get some seasons under their belts. Everyone gives Creps a lot of credit but he's been doing this for over 30 years. He was a rookie at one time too.

Bedford has and always will have plenty of athletes to contend in the LHAC. I'm a firm believer of that. Give the coaches some time to adjust. Coach Swaim has what it takes start a legacy.

I'll call it now, when Wes Swaim is 50 being on the Bedford football team will be something desired of kids again. The winning tradition will be once more.

Excellent point about coaching, B1: it does take time to develop into a great coach. Most everybody I know that's any good had a mentor. I just hope the new coaches can latch onto somebody's else's knowledge and experience and wisdom.

I think Bedford needs Max Shoe. back at Jr. High Basketball and Amy Ray at any sport.

noname: the coaching salaries are much better than 10 years ago. Very comparable with Everett I'd say.

B1: I like you optimism and I hope Bedford can turn it around but every head coach has to surround himself with capable assisstants and the capable assisstants at Bedford seem to all be retiring or sitting out.
