Is either of Football High's assistant superintendents qualified? Will the new super get two assistants? How many similar sized school districts have two assistant superintendents? With budget cuts looming does anyone want to be a school superintendent at this time?

Sure, you'd want it until you got it. Then, after about two weeks you'd realize why superintendents make what they do.

I talk to alot of ranger faithful and they don't care for bailey and said he can't win the big games with all the talent they have, and they have a feeder system for him coming out of the pee-wee tackle league at richland that go to him as studs already where he doesn't even need to coach these kids. They are taught right and are stars when the jr. high program gets them. Mehall, shopes, meier, gdula, kmett, moss, dudukovich, lazeration, burkey, ohler, glacken, ondracko, and the kostans etc. This is just a few of them that came thru this program that were already studs when bailey gets them and he never even had a say in these kids, but are handed this talent. No wonder he can win, but what about the big game?????? Mccombie and the two rbs coming back for next year played their too with countless others and this has nothing to do with bailey, because the parents take them to this league on their own. Bailey doesn't even have a forest hills league of his own??? That is why he wins around here, until he plays someone with talent!

That last post, although idiotic, is somewhat true. The Pee Wee league and junior high league are great contributing factors to FH success, but it's not like Bailey is prospering off of other people's hard work. These programs are run by people to help their kids and Bailey at the high school level. Many of the names you mentioned are also the names of parents running these programs. The reason FH wins is because of consistency. The coaches hardly change, the offense hardly changes, the defense hardly changes, and the names cycle through. Bailey has struggled strategically in some big games and should have atleast 1 state title, but he is the best motivator around. He also understands the importance of keeping it simple at the high school level. Every year I witness coaches trying to be too complex with the playbook and having too many plays and it leads to much more mistakes. FH doesn't have this problem because their 7th grade team is already running 65% of the high school playbook.

At FH it goes back to watching the older kids win, and growing up with all of your friends who play in pee wee thru high school. It the swagger and know your the better team every game. Thats where FH wins all it games. Thier may be better coaches and players out there, but you put that dynamic with a hall of fame coach and you get FH.

I wonder why FH doesn't have more kids go d2 or d1. The kids do not want to play post high school, they don't have the individual talents, or Don just doesn't care to go out of his way to get kids recruited?

Not saying he is a bad coach or anything at all like that, clearly his consistency and record tell otherwise. Just curious if there is any particular reason for this.

they don't have kids that can run 4.4/4.5 40 yard dashes with the athleticism to play d-1. They don't have kids that can bench 225- 20 times with a good vertical leap. Johnstown has these kids and sometimes mccort. I know alot of the players can play d-2 football and d-3 and succeed just like nick mcckolosky did from westmont. I know dudukovich, mcombie and meier along with some of the linemen their can play and help a team out. They are hardnosed kids that work their tails off and have a non stop motor. They may not be a star, but they can start and help a college out. Dave deneen from shade started at iup at strong safety and these kids are every bit as good as him. Chad devore from shanksville started at qb at slippery rock. So d-2 is definitely the place to go for the kids mentioned above. If a kid can come out of shade and make d-2, the laurel highlands definitely have the talent to succeed!

Once high school football is over, many of these kids realize thats the end of their athletic road, so why continue. Some get on with their academic pursuits, some get jobs, start families, go into the armed forces. Just because you are a local high school star does not automatically transfer into a college with a sucessful football program.
