Mount Union 32
Huntingdon 22

Huntingdon scored a late touchdown against a handful of JV players subbing in.

I am impressed. We fumbled away an opportunity early in the game for another touchdown. We gave the ball away leading to Huntingdon's first touchdown. We can pass and we can run. It's going to be a fun season.

Bedford 22, Heights 18
3 TDs each, no conversions for CH
As expected, Heights much improved under new coaching staff, played tough, hard-nosed football for 48 minutes
Shippey refused to let Bedford lose, two unbelievable TD passes under heavy pressure in the second half and about 30 tackles
Heights reward for their effort: John Rizzo comes to town next week

Mo Valley over Northern Bedford 14-7. With Mo Valley up 6-0, NB had the ball on the 10 going in and fumbled it away. The next play Martin to Ludwig on an option goes 90 yards. NB adds a late TD pass to set the final.

Clearfield 27
Central 20

Both teams played well in spurts in a hard hitting, humid game in Roaring Spring.

QB Frye from Clearfield made some nice plays through the air and also with his legs as an elusive scrambler. The feature back from Clearfield #19 toted the ball in the second half with aggression and chewed up lots of clock.

Central had its chances to win the game but did not come up with enough stops at critical times on third down. Zack Lingenfelter played well from his defensive line position and I was impressed with his lateral movement from down there in traffic....really strong hands and nice leverage.

Knisely ran hard for his size, but I wonder if he will be able to take the beating of carrying the ball 20 times a game this year. I was also impressed with sophomore Brady Moore in a half back position as he scored a tying touchdown for Central with 8 min to go in the 4th quarter.

Matt Ritchey played above average for his first varsity start at QB, but played even better at LB on defense.

Also, soph Austin Cunningham had a productive game on offense as a wideout, in the defensive secondary and also on special teams..

I though Clearfield would be three TDs better than Central, but gave up some big plays on defense. I think Clearfield is young up front and that makes a big difference early in the season.

An entertaining opener to the season....also a nice crowd in attendance as well.

Tyrone 17 -6 over BA. First off , hats off to the Blue Devils, they played a tough game. And speaking for Tyrone and Bellwood folks both...someone yank the refs credentials! Over 40 flags thrown! There was some chippiness and probably 15 to 18 were legit. But my GOD! I saw a BA kid called for hitting a Tyrone guy in the head...they were both walking back to the huddle and never came within 5 yards of each other. And a bogus pass int. call that went against Tyrone that was just as bad...plus it was a tipped ball... Neither team could get into any kind of rythm at all. The good news is at least it's a win, but the boys in in Orange better clean it up or their 8 year regular season home winning streak will end next week. Mifflin Cty has a pile of expereince and a ton of depth.

some scores I heard coming home

Altoona 55-13 over H-burg
PENNS VALLEY over Bellefonte 35-7 late( sell the f-ball equipment Raiders)
North Allegheny 47-21 over State College late

Portage 20 shade 7. Some bad calls going portage way, one a 20 yard td to tie the score 7-7 before the half got wiped out because shades rb pancaked a portage end and fell on top of him and they called a holding call which was a clear pancake! Also #27 catches a pass and runs 2 yards and gets crunched and fumbles and shade recovers and they called an incomplete pass. Portage had the refs on their side the whole game. Kruezenberger is a great ball player and played a heck of a game both ways. Portage definitely missed bimle, but they are a team that can be beat. The 82 yard kickoff return at the start of the 2nd half from # 18 took the sails out of shade. But they did drive it down portages throat on a long drive to start the 4th and scored! Shade shot themselves in the foot on the kickoff return and then fumbled at their own 20 yard line as portage hit them on a bomb to go up 20-0. Great game calling from gouse! Shade kids are out of shape and sucked wind in the 2nd quarter of the game. They need to run wind sprints and laps at the end of practice to get in shape and practice tackling and oklahoma because they lacked it tonight and it showed. The option killed their drives all night long also. Fumbles and big losses on it 5 times. Shade still played them tough and will take it to ferndale next week at shade.
