I'll take a 24 year old Outfielder that was 4th in MVP voting last season that would be under contract until 2015.

I get your point but I would think twice about it. Browsing d-back message boards a pattern develops regarding the perceived attitude of upton. Lazy, brat, underachiever, mental lapses are just some of the desrcriptions I have read about him. Can a change of scenery help? Perhaps. With his salary set to absolutely sky rocket 9+ million next year to 14+ million the last two of his contract It would make me hesitant.

Now, if they do trade for him I hope he blows up.

I think he will be humbled by not being the star player. McCutchen is far and away better at this point, and he holds all the burden of being the face of the franchise, and Walker's hometown effect catches the rest of attention. Upton can focus on Baseball here. I think he will be fine.

If the pirates do trade for him I certainly hope you're right and I'm wrong.

Upton is still a possibility, but my money is on a last hour deal for Josh Willingham. Here's why I think so. The Bucs were after him last year, his 20+ hrs validates their faith on their 1st instinct, and another young lefthanded power bat at PNC is just what the doctor ordered....BTW, if they'd have got him last year, they'd have 60 wins right now not 54. And they will still be shopping for an arm.

Weren't those some of the same words being used to describe Pedro about 2.5 months ago?

Can you imagine how good Pedro can be if he learns to shorten his swing? He hit that one 2 games ago off the end of the bat and an inch from the dirt 410 ft...if he ever shortens his swing to where he doesnt have to guess each pitch..omg will he be scarey

Names are starting to drop.....

Ryan Dempster looks to be on his way to the Atlanta Braves. Dempster is 5-4 with a 2.11 ERA and is 35 years old. He will join Tim Hudson,Tommy Hanson,Jair Jurrjens,Mike Minor, and Ben Sheets as Atlanta starting pitchers. After the headliners like Greinke and Hamels, Dempster was next in line. He's a veteran having a good season on a bad team.

Also the Tigers have landed Anibal Sanchez and Omar Infante from the Marlins. Sanchez is 28 and in the last year of his contract. He's been a pretty desent pitcher through the years and pitched well against Pittsburgh on Sunday. Infante is a veteran infielder that Detroit desperately wanted.

8 more days...

PS. The Marlins will acquire the NUMBER ONE prospect of the Detroit organization according to MLB.com. Steep asking price. Jacob Turner is a 21 year old RHP with a 2.77 ERA in 14 Minor League starts. He was drafted 9th overall in the 2009 draft. The equivalent of the Bucs trading Taillon almost for a rental starting pitcher and a utility infielder that has bounced around. YIKES Also Detroit sends AAA Catcher and a A Pitcher. They traded compensation picks. The Bucs have one of those as a bargaining chip.

ALSO Now the Mariners traded Ichiro to the Yankees for....two average pitchers. total shocker.
