RamblinMan....Sorry to skew away from this oh so entertaining argument of the great minds....but just wanted to make sure everything was cool with your step son. Saw him get pull away from the huddle by the ref late in the 4th and the ref was writing something down on his tablet then saw your step son leave the game and get chewed out hard on the sideline and take his helmet off in disgust and sit down. I watched him a good portion of the game, he's an outstanding player with the size, good play reads, and was one of the only ramblers that seemed they weren't just totally not interested in playing half the game. Was just making sure he didn't get ejected or anything....there was no penalty called. If you don't want to talk about it on here feel free to Private Message me, tell him to keep his head up and good luck to him to the rest of the season and whatever his future brings to him.

The last 3 games we lost in the playoffs were to Mccort, Bellwood, and Mccort and we won playoff games in each of those years. Also, you of all people shouldn't be talking, if every Westpac team was D-5 we would have won at least 4 titles in D-5. The year we won 56-8 you guys ended up winning the D-5 title so idk if i'd be bragging about District titles if I were you.
Yes, that was a serious question because I really don't know. I still don't know considering you never answered the question. Are you saying none? Let me ask you another question. How many West Pac championships have Portage won in the past ten year. And before you ask, it's a serious question because I really don't know. also, you might want to reread my comments about district 5 championships in the big scheme of things...

Hey, that's cool to ask. He plays his heart out every game until the clock runs out. I think he was frustrated at the pounding the team was taking and lost his temper a bit. He needed his behind chewed out and I would have had no problem if the coach benched him for the rest of the game. I love his heart and enthusiasm for the game but keeping a cool head is what's best for him and his team. He might not have done that. I love that he never quits so I can't be too upset with him. He's still hobbling around on an injured leg from the BV game from the chop block they delivered so I think some of his frustration is not being at 100%. Thanks for the comments. I really appreciate that...

Not 100% but it's either 4 or 5, I know 4 because they were undefeated. But just to show you how lopsided it is in D6 here's a list of the past 10 champs: 03 - Bishop Carroll, 04- Bellwood, 05- Bishop Carroll, 06- Bellwood, 07- Bellwood, (in 08 McCort moves down to A) 08- McCort, 09-McCort, 10- Bishop Carroll, 11- Penns Manor. So other than PM last year it's been the same 3 schools and two are, you know what.

I don't think there is any comparison at all between the two districts. Without a doubt district 6 is better and it's not even close. I would like to add, I would love to see Portage put out a better showing come playoff time. That would make the WestPac look more legit

RamblinMan wrote:I like what North Stars coach said before the seaon. "Our goal is to win the district championship so we can then take our yearly beating from Clairton". That comment pretty much forced me to respect the man. There's no doubt that district 5 football can or will ever be able to compete with the big dogs from d-7. We may try to kid ourselves but doing that is just dumb and pointless.

As for Portage, no doubt an impressive win and I give props to them for coming in and pretty much dominating every aspect of the game. Having said that, I don't think they could win a title if they were in district 5 this year let alone a much tougher d-6. And no one should have any illussions that they could compete for a state championship cause it just won't happen.
If these schools feel that they can't compete w/ D7 schools in the States, then why even play the game and risk someone getting hurt. Whats so different between Windber & SCA, North Star & Old Forge or, Conemaugh Twp & Springdale. All of those schools have similar demographics. So if SCA, Old Forge, and Springdale can have very good teams, why can't Windber, North Star or Conemaugh? Is it coaching, midget programs, or the communities in general aren't football crazy like the schools I mentioned & Clairton.

Sorry for the Portage State Championship run joke. I was totally kidding.

well the WPIAL has 37 teams to pick from in A. The best of 37 teams plays D5

Idk about anyone else but i am perfectly OK with having the wpial just be one half of the state tournament. 37 teams is way too much for one district

I can agree to a point.

The population decline in WPA has been harsh. At one time Clairton was a 3A school, the largest Classification in PA at the time. Now Clairton's enrollment is only 108. Even 15 years ago(when I was in school) there was close to an even balance throughout the class's in the WPIAL. 4 conferences of 7, 8, or 9 teams. Now there are like 38 Class A schools, 35 2A schools, 27 3A schools and 26 4A schools. Even the balance of power between the halves and have nots is very evident. Back in 2000 you had Clairton, Rochester, Farrell, Duquesne, Greensburg Central, Monaca all playing at a high level. I tend to think that 5 or Class's or even a Class B would help alleviate competitive disadvantage the bottom rung teams have against Rochester, Clairton, Sto Rox and others.

Another solution would be the PIAA stepping in and ending all Conferences/Leagues and setting up a new format. In Florida they have 8 Class's and Regions within those Class's, and then Districts within those Regions. In PA you could have 4, 5, or 6 Class's split up into 4 Regions, and then 4 or 8 districts within those Regions. This idea could adversely effect D5 and D6 just because they could get split up in at least 2-3 different directions every 2 years. That could potentially ruin some rivalries and whatnot.
