Just a little more info. Unfortunately this is not governed by PIAA but by each individual district. In previous years for the Jr. High Mt. Conference tournaments, D5 schools can enter and not use any points while D6 schools can only enter using 3 points. As far as Portage, they are in the West Pac tournament but are using that tournament towards there allotment of 22 points available. The PIAA (that is so concerned about how many matches kids wrestle) should have a hard and fast rule across the board and either allow conference tournys or not allow them and not let the decision up to each individual district.

Given your comments, I don't believe that Westmont had anything to do with the LHAC tournament being cancelled and was scheduled and planning to attend Saturday. With that being said it is odd to have 2 apparently unrelated coincidences of lefteye's WH rumor and the omission @ the D6 site.
Coachcal wrote: As to why it was canceled, I only know as much as the other schools know.
So what was the reason given? And why 2 days beforehand?

Everything I know was covered in the other thread about the tourney.

Lets be PERFECTLY clear ... the District Six committee is only and primarily concerned with schools on the "other" side of the mountain. They are all about promoting CM, MU, Bell, TY, Hunt etc - so if you think they would EVER go out of their way to vote for something specifically pertaining to WH, FH, Rich, Johnstown etc, you need to stop sipping on the bong water! We over here are the red headed step child of their family and they couldnt care less about how any of their rulings effect our schools ...

And thank you for coming to WH defense CoachCal - But you knew that would be a matter of time before WH got blamed for something ... I mean we've been back in AA for a whole month now - our power is UNLIMITED!!! bwwwhhaahahahah

I'm assuming that you (coachcal) are verifying Ryan Spring's story when you refer to the "other thread."

pas - great info on the D6 junior high squads having to use points for the Mt. Conference. As far as on the varsity level, some conflict between your information and RSpring's article - "A conference tournament does not take points away from a team's schedule."

"We got word it was approved by District 6" and "This time, we were told it was a go" both from Creps via RSpring. My question is who at D6 informed Creps/Lightner/Baker of this?

"He said various phone calls to District 6 members, including retired member Ray Wotkowski, were not returned." - if true that is poor etiquette for the leadership in D6. Particularly given that D5 and D6 generally work well together.

I'm pleased that the rumored conflict between Bedford and Everett's programs was quickly overcome to schedule Bedford's attendance at Bloody Run on short notice. For Bedford its a great fit as their wrestlers need matches and its an 8 mile trip. For Everett it should put really help attendance at the event.

I cant verify the accuracy of it, but it follows along what Ive heard. Nothing official. I dont speak for the LHAC, therefore I wont. I can only tell you what I know from the Westmont perspective.

On the points, I am of the understanding that conference tournaments are not supposed to use points. I have had discussions with other coaches in other leagues regarding it. Don't know if it's a district issue regarding points, per the comments above on the WestPAC.

From the PIAA handbook:

"With District Committee approval, Contests that are required to be played in order to determine qualifiers to District Championship Contests
and/or Contests that are required to be played to determine a conference or league champion shall not count toward the maximum number of
Regular Season Contests in that sport and shall be played by the District Deadline in that sport."

District 5 and 6, as they do in many areas, apparently have differing philosophies on this assuming D6 did not approve and D5 did approve. Perhaps nobody took it to the D6 committee for approval? I am not aware of the situation, just offering some insight.

I do know for a fact that it was brought up a couple years ago and D6 turned it down. As far as this year, i am not sure if D6 was asked and there is nothing in there minutes stating they approved or declined it, so i am guessing it was not brought up. Again, this should not be a district decision but rather a PIAA hard and fast rule consistent across the board, and you cant blame any D6 coach for questioning this. It doesnt cost points ONLY IF approved by there district. Without approval it is looked at the same as any other tournament and would put teams over the allotment of 22 points and as soon as teams wrestle any regular season matches past 22 points... there wrestlers would most likely be ruled ineligable for post season.

In a related topic the West-PAC Tournament had paperwork submitted in August of 2011. The D-5 committee debated over and over, citing several reasons:
- basketball isn't allowed such events
-they needed to check with PIAA to see if it were legal
-admissions & profit debates

The committee drug their feet for months and FINALLY approved the tournament in Feb 2012. The tournament was held the same month.

District 6 did not approve Portage for the event, so they needed to spend 2 points.

These conference tournaments are VERY common across the state, sounds like D6 needs to get outta the stone age.
