What about pittsburghs 2011-2012 roster: 3 goalies brad thiesen fleury and Johnson
What about 2009-2010: !!!!!!4!!!! Goalies curry sepurchie fleury and Johnson.
You are wrong to say its a bad idea for teams to have 3 goalies and you are definitely wrong to say its rare, because think about this scenario, withou zatkoff what happens when vokoun goes out? What wiuld they have done? Played fleury every game? He would have wilted and you would have kissed this season goodbye and looked to 2014. 3 goalies on a roster is never bad. With 82 games the workload needs to be spread. I would hang on to vokoun til he goes out on his terms which will work out good because he has expressed that his retirement is eminent. As for the defensive situation, I don't know where to go with this. Is it really time to part with Orpik? I feel like we can look to the gonchar situation and draw plenty of similarities with this, and sadly we all know how that ended

They never have that many goalies on the active roster... when was the last time you ever saw two goalies sitting side by side on the bench? If Vokoun was healthy then Zatkoff would be playing in WBS now and only brought up if/when there was an injury or some sort of other odd situation.
Go to
www.capgeek.com and tell me how many teams have 3 goalies on the books right now and don't have someone on LTIR.

With the salary cap expanding next year to around 10+ million more I wonder what trade deadline will be like this year. Teams may not trade 1 year remaining talent because they'll have the money to keep them in off season

I'm heading to the Pens game today... Section 105 Row B. I'm gonna keep an eye out for that third goaltender.

Oh you are pretty funny, the rosters speak for themselves. More often than not teams have third goalies who are essentially put down to farm teams after training camps, they are still on the roster they still went through camp, they still can be recalled for play at any time, so THERE STILL CONSIDERED ON THE TEAM!! Didn't need for you to be a smarta**. Have fun at the game, it's a coincidence your all of the sudden going though
