Yeah ucf probably could almost be a top 5 or 6 team. Their only crime, losing to a tough south Carolina team.....

Sagarin rankings (which have been used to death on this site) have the Big 10 ranked as the better conference over the ACC. The Legends division of the Big 10(Penn State's division) was ranked higher than the ACC Coastal (Pitt's division).

Central Florida is very very good. They are a top 10 team.

I am not sure what your reasoning is. Miami is good only in name this year. They lost 4 of their last 6 all by blowouts.

That same site has Pitt's SOS 32, while Penn State's is 52. Another site has Pitt 54, PSU 56.

Remember PSU did not have to face the B1G champion, MSU, likely hurting their cause. Next year Pitt is real lucky as they avoid FSU,Clemson, and Louisville from the other section. Stuff like that matters in SOS ratings.

In my honest assessment, I'd say both teams played similar schedules, with not much different. PSU isn't going 10-2 with Pitt's schedule or anything, they probably hover around .500 still.

The difference between the two school's regular season outcomes is simple. Penn State won their wild come from behind game, and Pitt lost. Pitt came from 24 down to tie UNC and lost. Penn State came back from two scores down to Michigan and won in 4 OT. Just some bounces either way from those outcomes being different.

Penn State's big wins were 9-4 Wisconsin and 7-6 Michigan and 7-6 Syrcause, the other 4 had a combined 11 wins.
Pitt's big wins were 10-4 Duke, 9-4 Notre Dame, and 7-6 Syracuse, and 10-4 BG. UVA and UNM combined for 5 wins, while ODU went 8-4 as a D1 transition team.

So what does all that say? That both teams had a few OK wins and a few bad losses, and some average schedules to boot.

The topic is PSU coaching hires, not sure why we're talking about this.

I wasn't really trying to start a debate on the schedules. I feel the two schedules were pretty even honestly. I was just responding to Konjo saying PSU had a much tougher schedule with no basis or legitimate way prove it.

Woah woah hold on a minute, I was never insulting UCF. Iwas saying UCF and OSU were the two bet teams they played. Michigan was average, Wisconsin was average, Syracuse, Ohio, all poor. An like someone said earlier they avoided one of the best teams MSU. Pitt played Duke, FSU, Clemson, and Miami. I don't know if penn state had the tougher schedule but ya'll are entitled to your own opinions.

My bad, I was reading my buddy's blog and he said they did. But I still see Pitt playing FSU as a tougher matchup than PSU playing OSU. But we are kind of getting off topic. The little research I have done on schiano he seems like a decent choice. Has he interviewed yet?

I hope it's Golden. As a Pitt fan, he doesn't scare me whatsoever.

I think they'll have trouble landing Franklin, at least I hope. He is building a big time reputation for himself as he is already having success in the SEC at a school with no football history. He may be better off holding off for a bigger SEC job and shy away from the current issues at PSU. But he would definitely be a great hire for PSU.

The more I think about it, the most likely candidate is Schiano. He seems like a guy who will be ready to jump right into a new gig. A lot of people are down on him after the mess in Tampa, but you have to remember that he took Rutgers, I repeat Rutgers, and made them relevant. They were arguably the biggest laughing stock in D1 football when he took over and he built them into a steady top 25 team. The guy knows football and if he can get recruits go to Rutgers, think what he can do with the PSU name brand. Plus he may be a favorite of the Joebots since he's a "PSU guy."

Schiano, you could argue, caused Penn State problems. The Nittany Lions owned New Jersey forever, and he started keeping kids home, even crept into Eastern PA for a few big names.
