Ya know Cube I'd agree whole heartedly, if they didn't pull this send the young stars down til June to save super2 money and add years of control. You are either all in on your young guys or you're treading water. Pirates are trying to be competitive and turn as big a profit as possible. They will have cutch polanco and Marte til 2016/17 then it'll be 1993 all over again.

As a small market you have to be careful with your finances if you want to have a chance at sustained success. Every small market team goes through ups and downs, and if keeping Polanco down until June makes us relevant for one more entire season then it is worth it IMO. I'd rather have a full season of Polanco in his prime a few years down the road than half a season of him getting his feet wet.

I be done the 20 year wait... I'd rather have those 3 together as long as possible with a chance for a title... Than a couple extra years of being "relavent" . Ask Cub fans what they'd like, nothing including money makes championships a certainty.. You have to go for it when you have that window... Ie the marlins twice now. I'm not saying throw away the future, but for Gods sake, 7 million? And they didn't lock up squat... None of those guys signed anything long term. I'm saying , if you're being cautious with the young guys, spent 10-15 mill on a bat at first for a yr or 2, or several playoff experienced bench players (bucs bench is punch less to be kind). They've taken in close to 200 mil in revenue in past 12 months with a shrinking payroll. I'm not saying be the Yankees , but cut a lil into the profit to win. Look at what several other low budget teams have done past few years.... KC doesn't count , they're a trainwreck.

Based on spring performances Ishikawa may be Bucs best option at first to start the season.

Rumors are flying that they are working on locking Marte up long term. Better now than later that's for sure!

Tabata never put up a 4 WAR season as Marte did last year.

Yeah Marte's 2013 season was far more impressive than anything Tabata did, and that's why Tabata signed a dirt cheap, club friendly extension.
