You are completely right about the patching his reputation thing. And the worst part is, it's going to work. Everybody is going to bow down to him.
My biggest problem with this whole thing is, he's not even the best anymore, this season totally proved who is the best. Again I admire his ability but not his mindset.

He gave Cleveland 7 years and they couldn't or wouldn't build a roster around him. He singled handily took them to the Finals one year. Read the article.... he missed Cleveland and felt compelled to go back there and deliver what he couldn't the first time he was there, whats so wrong about that?
Aoki- The Heat didn't win the first year Bron was there... why didn't he demand to be moved then? His commitment to the Heat was fulfilled. Sadly, or not, the word "loyalty" has no bearing in sports. It's about winning and winning now. What if he thought... "ya know I came here to win some titles and I did that... now I'm going back home to win some more". Maybe he would have left had they beat the Spurs... I don't know. You don't know. The cupboard is pretty bare in Miami and they are going to be saddled with DWade for as long as he is still there.
LeBron is worried about LeBron and winning titles and defining his legacy.... you don't think delivering a title to Cleveland helps that in the majorities eyes?
Who is the best if you don't think he is?
*Disclaimer* I don't even really like LeBron or the NBA or basketball in general.

Lebron is the best player for sure. You can argue that Durant is the best scorer but no way is he an overall better player. Lebron is an elite defender.

Your comment is as laughable as it is childish, yes I admit I'm jealous of Lebron, the majority of the world is provably jealous of a multimillionaire professional athlete and if you say you aren't you are a liar.
Oneandonly, yes the heat didn't win a ship the 1st season he was there but it was inevitable, if the heat wouldn't have won a ring during lebrons tenure there something would have been seriously wrong. You don't just make a roster like that and fail that bad.
Lebrons situation in CLE vs. his one in MIA were two totally different scenarios. You said it yourself: he singlehandedly took them. In Miami he had that talent built around him to go places that they went. So you making the connection of how they didn't win the first year had no weight.
I understand that Lebron is how he is for himself, don't see how that makes it okay in your eyes. Guess what? Hitler killed 11 million people, but Hitler was just worried about Hitler so it's all good right? NO! Stop glorifying selfishness, I see it everyday in the sports I coach. It's become the norm, do you want to know why? Because children see "role models" like Lebron do this **** everyday. We have become so accustomed to it that now we think its right.
Long gone are the glorifications for players like Lemiuex, Messi, Wayne Rooney etc. players that take pride in 1 team and stick with them. Now we glorify ungrateful players who when things get a little bit tough pack their bags and ship off to another. Competition is about winning, absolutely, why couldn't Lebron win in Cleveland?
The best players are Durant and Rose, both of them have outshone, and will continue to, Lebron. I don't care how good eefensively Lebron is. I am not going to argue about this, it's my fault for bringing that topic into this but here isn't the place.

Did you really just say rose and Durant are better? Huh? Lebron is the Best I'll give him that but to say he will now in Cleveland more than Miami is just ludicrous... Mama would of signed bosh and wade back, had the most depth they've had since the big 3 and a much stronger starting line up. Don't tell me he'll win now in Cleveland with only kyrie Irving... The rest of the team is either new youngsters or garbage players... The move was to save face and he knows it... Why he said he is moving back for the fans and can't guarantee a championship because they are a far off from that.

I didn't see this one coming, I'm actually kind of excited about it. I think this makes the league better.
But Minnesota is going to get shafted somehow in this ordeal if they do deal Love, but they might as well take something because he's bolting no matter what after next year. I'm reading Waiters, Bennett, and a first round pick. If I'm Minnesota I aim high and try and get Wiggins somehow, but who knows?
The corresponding move of Boh teaming up with Howard and Harden makes for an intereting Big 3 out West.
If a league with....
LeBron, Irving, Love
Howard, Harden, Bosh
Duncan, Leonard, Parker
Durant, Westbrook
Maybe Melo, Rose, Noah
The Pacers still have their core
Blazers have Lillard and Aldridge
Warriors Curry, Lee, and Klay Thompsomn
The league looks exciting next year.
I don't get the vilifying Cleveland for "welcoming back" Lebron? Who wouldn't if given that exact same circumstance? If Sidney Crosby left the Pens next year and returned in two years, the 87 jerseys would be overwhelming. If Jagr would've actually joined a few years ago, those boo's would have been screams of joy. If Bonds opted out of a San Fran deal and came back to Pittsburgh in 1996, who would have been opposed?
The point is, winning is better than "loyalty" however you look at it. Pittsburgh would react very similar to Cleveland if a star left and returned.
I'm not the biggest LeBron guy in the world, actually I don't like him much at all. But he's great at what he does, one of the best players I've ever seen and one of the most physically gifted athletes in the world. LeBron doesn't handle things how most athletes would, but it is what it is. I think it's cool for him and Cleveland.

Oh, I wasn't reading all the replies.
LeBron is the best player in the league. A guy that hasn't played in two years like Rose isn't better than Lebron, and also a guy that has only made it to the Finals once also isn't better. Durant's a better scorer, LeBron is just a flat out better overall player. LeBron guided Cleveland to the Finals with an atrocious roster, Durant has another top 10 player in the league and has only made the finals once and got worked.
Opinions are fair and if that's your's I won't say it's wrong, but I can't see where Durant and especially Derrick Rose are better than LeBron. They are certainly both in the conversation to be the second best player in the league, but the body of work between the 3 players isn't really close.

Whenever Rose was healthy he was miles ahead of Lebron, head to head Rose individually mashed the Hear plenty of times, I don't care if he hasn't been in the league for two years, when he played in 2011 he was the best. I will let the 2011 MVP award do the talking there.
Since we are using finals to judge individual skill, which is silly by the way, how about Lebron in the finals when he wasn't on a stacked team? Same in regards to Derrick Rose and Kevin Durant, he didn't have a ring as a cav , but as soon as he went to Miami he got. Melo goes to Chicago, it's game over, Rose wins another MVP no question.
I love how everybody's argument is "Durant is a better scorer". Okay, we'll you win games by putting the ball in the basket. Defensively Durant isn't a pushover like you guys are making him seem. I understand that sportscenter is pretty convincing in their campaign to make Lebron seem like a god, but I think awards do the talking: the reigning MVP is Kevin Durant, so therefore the consensus overall best player in basketball is Kevin Durant. I have no more to say on the matter
