Re: Pens acquire Phil Kessel
Do the math you dolt... over an 82 game season for his entire career he has averaged 30.2 goals per season. That makes him a consistent 30 goal player. So what he wasn't last year... he played on the worst team in hockey.
I said two of the best centers in hockey... not the two best. Reading comprehension is below you.
He scored 20 goals in the lockout season in 48 games... guess you want to count that as under 30. You're an idiot.
His goal totals have went 19-36-30-32-37-20-37-25.... boy that looks like they are decreasing at a rapid rate.

Re: Pens acquire Phil Kessel
Im sorry you are getting mad for answering you why I don't think he'll score 30 goals next year. Get mad but there is a reason many pen fans are wondering why are we handicapping our cap with 1 underachiever instead of picking up 3-4 solid role players.
Re: Pens acquire Phil Kessel
Why don't we ask your Philadelphia Shitheads how having a bunch of role players on one team is. Oh, they are scraping the bottom of the division again? Can they take a message?
I think you might be the only person on planet earth that wouldn't take Kessel over a bunch of role players.

Re: Pens acquire Phil Kessel
I think I'd rather have a bag of trash on my roster than a Schenn. Steve Mason is arguably your teams best player, just let that one sink in dude.

Re: Pens acquire Phil Kessel
Hey if we are a bag of **** it must suck knowing that bag of **** dumps all over the pens everytime we play... last time I checked neither team won a playoff series this year and neither team was any good. Kessel is just a 6 million dollar role player you hope isn't going to pull the same stuff as last season. The flyers problem came from a lack of depth at the center position. You had giroux, who put up similar numbers to malkin and much better numbers than kessel, and then a 3rd line Center in coutier they tried making into a 2nd liner. At the end of the day they failed to make the playoffs and they deserved too. But if the flyers and pens had a series in the playoffs last year it would of been at worse 4-2 flyers. They were the better team of the two in the end of the season
Re: Pens acquire Phil Kessel
konjo, I've been a Flyers fan and Pens hater since 1979 and even I think you are off the mark here. You realize that Kessel hasn't missed a game in 5 seasons and has averaged 30 goals a year with Tyler Bozak (Tyler Bozak!!!) as his center, right? With his release, I can easily see him scoring 40-45 goals on a line with Crosby.
Take heart in the fact that the Pens haven't had or will have a first round pick in a while due to all of their wheeling and dealing, that Kessel rarely bothers back-checking, that his cap hit will really hurt when its time to re-sign Maata and the fact that they still have to sign a few players to fill out their roster with limited cap room remaining.
The Pens are going all in for right now in order to win a cup during the prime Crosby/Malkin years and to bump the franchise value for the anticipated sale. The lack of organizational depth will come back to haunt them as it has the Flyers. Hextall has corrected many of those past sins and the future looks promising for the Flyers.

Re: Pens acquire Phil Kessel
40 45 goals is insane to think. I just look at what Pitt loses, they've already lost 2 dman, and wonder why take a risk on someone who's coming off their worst season. I think Saad would of been better for this team to go after
Re: Pens acquire Phil Kessel
Why is it insane? He had by far his worst season in terms of shooting percentage this past year. Do you really think that will happen again with Crosby/Malkin drawing so much more attention/coverage? He ought to score 20-23 goals on the power play alone.konjo78 wrote:40 45 goals is insane to think. 2011-12 - 37 goals in 82 games (12.5 S%)
2012-13 - 20 goals in 48 games (12.4 S%) - lockout season - extrapolates to 34 goals over 82 games
2013-14 - 37 goals in 82 games (12.1 S%)
2014-15 - 25 goals in 82 games (8.9 S%)
I never said that it was a good trade overall or is the best for the Pens over the long term, I just simply think he is going to score a ton of goals over the next few years.
I just hope his penchant for Tim Horton donuts spreads throughout the locker room. ;)

Re: Pens acquire Phil Kessel
Jrs I'm gonna have to start calling you blind. But that wouldn't be nice to blind people. From what I can tell upnorth is the only pens fan that realizes this deal isn't a slam dunk and can cripple to team of it doesn't work. I haven't seen mention of any other pens fan of their 2 defenseman leaving. And with the health history of letang who can they depend on in their blue line?
