BG girls

I've posted on here in the past that you'd have to be blind to see the number of girls from different districts outside BG represented in the girls program and not think something was going on. I have had 3 kids go through BGHS (one still there, and no, none of them played girls basketball thankfully so I have no axe to grind) and I've always believed that. I'm happy to have had my kids go to BG and I'd do it again but am glad they never got caught up in the things that are going on now. It's a disservice to the girls who work hard coming up through the parochial system to be cast aside as soon as a transfer comes in. Those things are coming back to bite them in the girls program. It's to bad because there are a lot of really fine players and families who are being pushed aside or leaving due to the internal politics.

what is happening with the boys coach at BG? why was it said a bench warmer is bringing him sown? he is so successful and respected because of where he came from and was taught by his coach. you can say a lot of negative about coach bailey, but he cared for his players and they knew that. i'm shocked to hear all the negatives about the girl's coach at BG. i thought winning solve everything, maybe that isn't the case.

Ask any former girls players from BG what they learned and how they developed under the current coach and you will be surprised to learn of the lack of player development.  And when was the last time you saw a varsity BG coach at a parochial league game or even a jr high game for that matter.  Apparently not necessary when you just wait for talent and hope you have the leadership among the team to win.  Why not develop a program starting in the parochial league and then actually help them get better in high school?  That is how you build a quality program and successful young women. Girls who can take pride in what they have accomplished as a team. Win or lose!  Why as a head coach, do you attend ymca games, then sit on the end of the bench and refuse to coach?  Open gyms are a waste of time with no player development.  Why is that good enough for BG?  How many state championships would the talent that has gone through there had with good coaching and leadership?  Many more than we've seen the past eight years.

Did the BG girls end up making the playoffs in the Hollidaysburg league?  How are the playoffs shaking out there?

I heard through the grapevine that they got pretty handily beaten by Bedford last night in the Building 2 league in Altoona and won't advance to the championship

No, they did not make the playoffs.   I believe playoffs start Thursday at the Hollidaysburg Y and include Altoona, Bellwood, JV and BC.

How did BG not make playoffs. Bellwood or juniata valley are the clear cut teams to win it without BG in it. How does Altoona without any players besides the tall besecker girl and shetom girl go 12 and 2. Besides those 2 they don't have much behind them.

Unfortunately for the girls at BG, moschella will get his guarenteed 20 wins this year and hang it up one year too late.  It's about personal records and not much about developing young women.  Sad state of affairs at BG.  Thank god Wheeler energized the football program. Amazing what leadership and commitment can do for the kids and the program.  And what a great job he is doing in the area of college recruiting.  Like all good coaches, he surrounds himself with great assistants!

I'm sorry but  I disagree with many of the posts on this forum. I played basketball all four years under the current staff and I haven't been out of the system that long. I have nothing but fond memories of the program and the coaches. I was very blessed to play for the staff at BG and I can say that they genuinely cared about developing the players both on and off the court. While there, I never heard one of my teammates complain about the head coach or any of the assistants. Furthermore, I have yet to hear one of my former teammates speak negatively about a member of the staff even after we have gradated. I'm guessing that some of the ones posting here are parents...Therefore, you don't have firsthand experience in actually playing for the staff. They are wonderful people and they instill nothing but good values in their players. As far as practices and open gyms go -- if you are unsatisfied, have your kid go to the gym in their spare time and put in work there. That is the best way to develop one's skills anyways.

Also, the staff there would NEVER recruit any players. Period. To accuse them of that is ludicrous.
