Because losing 21 games in a row and having no chance of winning in the foreseeable future is benefitting which athletes at Bishop Carroll? How many injuries did they have in the first week alone? There's a difference between being a competitive 1-9/0-10 team and being the team that everyone else uses as a punching bag. If anything else, this was for the safety of the kids. Them staying in the LHAC benefitted no one, including themselves.benchpress wrote:The only ones suffering in all of this are the Bishop Carroll athletes. years ago, back in the day when they probably feel they lost out on their chances at the NFL because of the Huskies. These kids never asked for ANY of this. They compete to the best of their abilities and they are ridiculed when they win and ostracized when they lose. Guess what? They will still go on and have successful lives because of their families and their education, education which can be enriched by sports. But a bunch of crybabies have tried to take that part of their high school experience away from them. You can wrap this up, tie it in a bow and tell everyone it's for the best interests of the students but in all reality, it's only self -serving to a bunch of middle-age wanna be's who make themselves feel superior by taking on a bunch of teenagers. Congrats, you've won. You beat a bunch of kids. Hope you all feel really great about it.

I believe a similar argument could be had about Central Cambria's football program, who if the night had gone even just a little differently, won only 1 game by 2 points against BC this year. CC had ONLY 5 more kids on the roster than BC. Many of their injuries occurred prior to the season starting and most were playing by the end of the season. Don't pretend this is for the safety of the kids. What will happen when CC can't use BC as the weak scapegoat anymore? I highly doubt their conference status will hang in the balance when playing them will benefit no one, including themselves.

CC had 38 kids out this year and 39 in 7th/8th grade, you mean to tell me that BC had 33 kids, c'mon man you're in such denial. If that's the case then why didn't they have a JV team? We all know BC only had 17-18 kids.
And again, we may have only beat BC but we are at least competitive in more than just one game. Half of our games we were only down 7-14 points at half, there were games BC was losing 35-0 after one quarter. Additionally, there is no worry of us not fielding a team. All comes back to safety.

i agree that the comparison to CC is a poor one. yes bad season this year, but they are a bigger school in the first place.
I did talk to some one today who told me that CC will not be in any coop with BC going forward as this would put them at AAAA and they are not interested in this at all. CCDevil probably knows more about that.
in the same conversation, it came up that BC people are already talking about how they are just going to become part of the Westpac, LOL I would say that there is a zero percent chance of that happening.

I can understand the concern about the small teams and I think the low numbers across the board in football will mean this conversation will probably come up again with another conference school at some point. Parents are not allowing their kids to play with concerns over injuries, kids are taking up other sports or just not being involved. If the trend continues, football-based conferences will need to look at the issue. Lowered enrollment numbers means those players will not be coming out in the forces of the past. Teams who are competitive in other sports will pay the price. It is an issue and CC and BC are certainly prime examples of the smaller numbers.
Also, "it came up that BC people are already talking about how they are just going to become part of the Westpac, LOL I would say that there is a zero percent chance of that happening." I haven't heard one parent say that. Every BC parent I know knows that is not a realistic option which is why they are so upset. There really may be no place for their kids to play unless they travel all over, sometimes hours away. Teams who play several games a week will face a huge transportation cost and also fear the toll it can take on their schoolwork with so much time on travel. It's not a good situation for those athletes. I fail to understand how adults can laugh about how it will affect kids, despite their personal feelings about the school.

Here's an Idea.... Why not BC just play a JV schedule for a couple of years and try to build numbers back up. I would bet some teams would pick them up and they could get a full schedule! BC and CC both cancelled JV games with Bedford last year and Bedford had to pick up other teams to fill the schedule. I'm sure other local schools face the same problem.
Maybe having a little bit of success playing JV will help get them rolling again. They would be competitive and would not get embarrassed on the varsity level until they get numbers back up??

I do get what youre saying about playing just JV. I dont believe that will solve anythingat all, I think if they went that route they might as well just stop football all together. Kids who are say Jr. and Sr. wont want to play on a JV team for 2 years, the numbers will decrease further. The only chance they have is to play independent for a few years, get a few wins, play in some closer games anf then get more kids to come out to play. If they can slowly rebuild that, then they might be able to find a home conference. Its really a 5 to 6 year rebuild to a semi decent team. It can be done but will need help from coaches, parents, kids and the school to do it.Lefteyelouie wrote:Here's an Idea.... ...Sorry I missed the beginning of this topic. Had been away.
...There came a time, after many years together, that The Lone Ranger and Tonto found themselves completely surrounded by Indians. Sensing the seriousness of their peril, the Masked Man said to his trusted friend, "Tonto, we are in a lot of trouble". Tonto looked at him and replied, "What you mean, we?" BM and BG have become the Tontos of the LHAC.
