I think they had a heck of a class considering how bad that offense has been. They got 2 good linebackers too and King. That's considered "reloading" on defense. Lose Guman, get a 5 star player in return. Lose Wake, who is limited to begin with, and get that transfer from UM and the other LB. Not a bad trade!
Let's not forget who has the pre-season #1 defense in the NCAA.
And while we're under a thread of LOCAL TEAMS, what did Pitt get? 1 4star player. Yeah, Wannstedt is on the move, folks. BCS bowl, national exposure (using that term loosely, because they certainly got "exposed") and all for naught. PSU was 4th in the Big Ten, behind 3 top 12-15 classes in UM, Iowa, and OSU. That is excellent for Penn State.
You gotta love these PSU bashers. They continue to overlook that defense, despite being the best in the entire country. If this is the state of things to come, Tom Bradley might end up being a better coach than Paterno. The only problems were the inexperienced line, and a quarterback who has been banged up for years. The play calling will absolutely be better next season.
"The Big East got one 5 star recruit" Excellent point, 1 point goes to Austin.

Penn State will be back on the map next year for sure. they had a great recruiting season and even with out the new recruits they would be a good team with all the people they got returning. Penn State will have a New Year's bowl if not a Big Ten Title. They were the only team in the nation to not allow 21 points in a game last year and they lost only 2 players on Defense and they both had a small role. They got Derrick Williams to go along with Mark Ruben as a down field WR Threat.

PSU's D was good and was statistically the best in the nation, but I would not say they had the best D in the country. I would take Auburn's D over PSU's any day. Why? Auburn was 13-0.
Also, I do not even think PSU will have the best D in the Big 10 next year. Ohio State's D will be much better, especially if they move Ginn to CB. The Buckeyes return almost everyone from last years defense, including the best defensive player in the Big 10, A.J. Hawk. I cannot even name a player from the PSU defense. Who do they have?
As for PSU winning a Big 10 title, maybe they should try to get a winning record first, maybe hire someone who can coach and get an offense. I see them winning 4 conference games next year. They will not best OSU, Michigan or Iowa and probably will lose some others as well.

i think penn state will be much improved next season, but not even close to big ten title, bowl game yes. nothing else to argue psu has been really bad for a few years now. nowhere else to go but up.

Michigan is the most overrated program in the country, they don't even play Iowa, Wildcat, and so quick to give OSU the win? PSU always plays OSU tough.
You can't name anyone on that defense? Well, OSU did have a good defense with a lot of prospects but still. Columbus isn't perfect, ya know. With the recruits they've have lately, they should be a top 3 team every season. Kids aren't getting developed. At this point.
You'll know some names by the end of next season. Zematias, Posluzny, Connor, Paxson, etc.

Getting King and Williams and only being ranked 26th in the country in recruiting is pathetic. Plus did they really help themselves alot on offense where they needed help the most? They signed 1 QB, 0 RB's, 2 WR's, 3 TE's, and 2 OL's. Along with 3 recruits termed "athletes". Is this going to spark that stagnant offense which has been the Achilles heel of this team the last few years?

When you lose a game 6-4, that is not the defense not doing it's job there buddy.
Boston College L 7-21
Wisconsin L 3-16
Minnesota L 7-16
Purdue L 13-20
Iowa L 4-6
Ohio State L 10-21
Northwestern L 7-14
A team with anything even close to the resemblence of an effective offense would have won at least 4 of the games that they lost this season. And it can even be argued that if they had an offense that they could have beaten BC and even your precious OSU. PSU will be better next year, not much better, but better. They will make a bowl game, and I wouldn't be surprised to see them take down the incredible machine that is Ohio State. Keep kicking them while they are down, because they won't be for much longer...

Moldo:
Morelli is obviously the future QB at Penn State. They don't just have 1 QB on the depth chart. They got no RB's, which may be because people don't want to play behind guys like Scott and Hunt. They totally got WR's, plus Williams is basically already slotted as a WR. That transfer from UM... who is a 4 star prospect I might add... is either a TE or LB now at Penn State. The OL is young. What do you want from them? They aren't gonna get 16 blue chip recruits at every position. I think PSU ended up with a real solid class.

penn state did a nice job recruiting for need. is this the kind of class which will produce 8 all americans? no. this is not a class which will provide penn state 20 starters in 4 years. last's class and next year's class have been targeted to provide the type of players penn state did not get this year (RB, QB, Lineman). if penn state has a solid season next year, look for them to have a spectacular recruiting class for '06.
wildcat, i am not suprised you don't know any players from penn state's defense. they were 4-7 as a team, and players on a 4-7 team usually don't get much press outside their territory.
you will know many names next year. zemaitis is the best corner in the big ten. posluzny is just as good as your AJ kHawk. dan connor, who you really should know since he was the defensive freshman of the year in the big ten, may be even better than those 2 at the end of the year. tamba hali is going to have a michael haynes type senior season. i could name 7 other guys who all bring a year of experience and some great abilities to the table. add to that an ever-improving defensive coordinator who has stated he will do everything he can, including getting ideas from nfl defensive coaches, to make this a more agressive unit next year, and you have the makings of a championship defense.
if the offense can move the ball a lil bit and not turn the ball over, penn state could have a very fine year. if you can't tell, i have my hopes WAY too high.

Whoa!! Where do I start with that post.
First of all, A.J. Hawk was an All-American this past year. Did this Poluzny guy even make All-Big 10. He is as good as Hawk and Conner is better is just ridiculous. Ohio State's other LB's, Carpenter and Schlegel, are probably as good as anyone in PSU's LB corps.
Second, I grant that Zemaitis is a strong corner, but Youboty was a shutdown corner for OSU the second half of the year. Did anyone else do as good a job on Braylon Edwards as Youboty?
Third, Penn State has not consistently played well against OSU. Until this past year, they had not scored in double figures in the Shoe since joining the Big 10. This year, they lit it up with 10. Of course, they play them tough at home. I would hope so. Only Indiana consistently gets blown out at home.
Finally, Ohio State finished #1 two years ago and #4 last year. This past season was a rebuilding one and they still finished the year by blowing out Michigan and Oklahoma State. But you're right. They don't develop their players at all. Penn State does a much better job at that. Mills came along so well in his four years as a starter.
Go Buckeyes!!
