It'll be 4 years in September since we were attacked. Why hasn't there been another? Because of our attack on Afganistan alone? Would we have gone 4 years without another attack if we would have stayed out of Iraq?

Why the name calling? I know it goes both ways on this board. Does it make it more fun for all of you?
Have you:
Helped the inner city poor, or your poor neighbor for that matter?
Helped someone get an abortion, or even just go watch to see how it's done so you have a better understanding of what you are supporting?
Paid to defend someone on death row?
Pay extra taxes? Pay taxes at all?
Attempted to rehab a drug addict?
Rehab a prison inmate?
Ran off to Canada to avoid the draft?
Gone to Iraq to fight for the opposition?
Tried to develop an alternate fuel so we don't have to rely on oil?
Helped illegals get drivers licenses and jobs?
What have you done besides start topics like this on BC?
I have paid to put someone through college because they couldn't afford it. Even though I live paycheck to paycheck myself. I have brought people to this country, legally, so that they can realize their dreams. I know girls who have had abortions and have seen the effects it has on them years afterward, but they never tell you about that when handing out the pamphlets at the clinic. I've paid taxes so people who come here illegally can have medical care and schooling and break the law without penalty. What makes you so certain that we have money to support more than we already have? Are we all rich somehow?
FF - If Iraq had any? They did. Where'd they go? That's the big question. Destroyed? Buried in the sand? Syria or Iran?
Is being there keeping us from getting attacked here? Not sure. They certainly haven't stopped trying, but I think having the fight over there probably makes them concentrate more of their resources in the Middle East. But there may be a price to pay in 10-15 years if the terrorists are ever able to reorganize enough and we let our guard down at all.

Moldo, how long ago since before 9/11 was the last fairly large attack? How about before that? Do you expect that every day we would get a new attack on America? Also, the terrorists probably just want to kill Americans. The cost effectiveness of attacking Americans in Iraq is much lower then that of attacking those in America. The location doesn't offset the cost difference. At least in my mind.
Do you HONESTLY feel that we are more at risk for another attack because we got involved in Iraq?
The Americans in Iraq sure are.
As to this whole adoption thing, could someone explain why there are waiting lists?
FF - If Iraq had any? They did.
Yeah they did, thanks to America giving the weapons to them.

Great post Analyst. Typical liberal approach. Scream at others, blame others, but do nothing yourself. And then criticize those that do.

Are you serious?
You may think I'm being political here, but I'm not. This comment came directly from the agency we're working with. When abortions are used as birth control, too many women take the attitude that they aren't going to carry that baby for someone else. Abortions are usually the first choice, not the last. Our laws have made that too easy.
Sure, there are lots of kids from other countries too that need homes. The problem is that it is VERY, VERY expensive. Most folks willing to adopt simply can't afford to fork over anywhere between 30k to 50k to make that happen, and take months off of work for the trips. We've talked to families that have, and the whole process still takes up to a year or longer. The one family we know adopted two children from Russia. They spent almost 100k in total, and had to make numerous trips to go through the court process and transition period. Most folks just can't afford that.

DCP: Those Americans more at risk in Iraq? Are you talking soldiers or civilian/workers?

I'd rather have all the raghead scum sneaking over the Syrian or Iranian borders to try to get a crack at our elite troops in Iraq than have them sneaking over the borders from Canada or Mex. to kill and / or blow up our civilians. If they do that to enough of the Iraqi civilians, maybe they will stop hiding and supporting these alien sneaks and give them up to the Iraqi Police whom we are training to fight just this.

Another great post by Analyst. First he inaccurately says Ft. Beford exists, then he tries to get the topic off-track even more. Yes, I have rehabilitated thousands of prison inmates. This is not a thread of "what you have done", this is about abortion. When Mommy says, "why isn't the grass cut", is it okay to say "I cleaned my room"? No, not when she says to cut the freakin' grass. Wjen your boss says, "Hey Analyst did you do that archeological dig at Ft. Bedford like I asked you", do you get away with, "No, boss, I was hanging out at Best Way Pizza with LP, but we filled the gas up in the company truck". Nice try. Kudos for being a good person if you did what you said you did, but let's not pass the buck. If you hate abortion, tell a girl to have the kid and you'll raise it.
Yes I am serious. OK, it is expensive. That doesn't explain why there are waiting lists. Are these like half off lines? Yay for government screwing something else up! Oh yeah, why are there orphanages in America then?

I have indeed done several of them. I have looked into a few others. I have helped the poor and the community in general. My family gives to several charities what we can. I pay taxes (sadly). I do not make enough to defend someone on death row, nor would I. That is not the source of the problem. The source of my problem is with Capital Punishment in general. Why would I help a murderer get off the hook when I simply don't want him killed. My time would be better spent fighting against Capital Punishment. I am not trained to rehabilitate people. I have given moral support for them though. I am not 18, thus have not had to run to Canada (though I wouldn't anyway. I would swallow my pride and go to jail.). I do not support the Iraqi cause, why would I fight for them? I am not an engineer yet. Maybe after my four years at Penn State, I can try that. Sadly I do not know illegals, nor am I in a position to assist them. I think that covers the last one.
I hope that answers your questions.

Well, just like firemen and policemen, the all volunteer army understood the risks involved when signing up. The civilians who are over there are there at their own risk, just like Amereican tourists in Egypt, Greece, Morocco, etc. But the initial conversation brought up by fleaflicker concerned protecting OUR SHORES. I'm sure we are safer now in our country since we have taken the fight to them.
