I knew a guy once who got a prank phonecall, and was so upset he had a heart attack and died. So I guess in a round about way prank phonecalls can be harmful. As far as no one would have known about it if it wasn't a PSU player who did it. That's the price you pay for being a celebrity. It's like Winona Rider shoplifting. Normally it would not have made the news, but.....

So it's gone from PSU players being the dirt of the earth to celebrity status?

In today's world you read about everybody's problem athletes....from USC to Miami to Pitt to Penn State....everyones, not just Penn States. In fact up until about 10 years ago you never read about any PSU problems. Not because they didn't have any like other schools, but because they were all covered up since State College isn't exactly the media hub of the world and JoPa was a "cover up" artist, to his credit.
That's why people who have lived it now get a kick out of Penn State's problems being out in the open...because of the squeaky clean image "portrayed" by Penn State for years.

Now before you get on here and blast me bedftballham55, I'm not being critical, just trying to explain why some Pitt and WVU fans get a kick out of PSU's player-problems. You've not seen me blast Penn St. kids in any thread for getting in trouble....Pitt has had it's share over the years as well and it's just the way it is in today's climate.

Heck. Charles Manson is a celebrity. No one said you have to be the Pope to be known.

I demand to know why such things as Phonegate happen at PSU!!!! They have great attendance!

...PSU has the best attendance in the country, right??? Thus, because their attendance is so great, crank calls should never happen. Plus, great attendance translates to wins and losses...26-34 over the last 5 years!

Like my logic? Some of you convaluted Nit Fans should be able to follow it...Because The Master (JoePa) says so...There, now you should believe it...After all, you all believe everything that The Master says, right?

Great attendance translates into a great following of loyal fans through the toughest and thinnest of times. Great attendance means that people will be willing to put forth the hard earned dollar to go see something they love. Great attendance is something that Pitt football would love to have.

ham,

I love your responses...Keep telling yourself that stuff and submitting to the all-too-frequent Blue and White brainwashings.

BTW, that was an excellent post, Head Roadie. It's not the problems that PSU players have been expereincing they are young adults and they will make mistakes...However, it's the holier-than-thou, teflon stance that the arrogant PSU fans display toward other programs. They think they can do no wrong. NO, they have no room to mock any program, because they need to be spending their energy taking care of matters in their own house!!!! That's why folks like me think it's so funny to see the whole sanctimonious she-bang in Crappy Valley crumble to pieces and to see their pathetic fans grasp for very short straws in using teh wonderful "BUT we get more fans than you!" and "BUT, PSU is a better school than Pitt!" arguments.

Actually, I think it's a shame that PSU football has become a laughingstock...I even feel just a smidgen bad that their coach, who could've gone out a winner and with dignity by retiring in '95, has chosen to pathetically hang on. I'll say it again: JoePa died on the sideline following that Rose Bowl win in '95. He's been a joke ever since.

...WE shouldn't be surprised at the arrogance of PSU fans, though...The Master and Head Brainwasher and Head Hypocrite mirrors the behavior of his Flock (fans) by ever so arrogantly quoting in his novel, which is now required reading and the Bible of all PSU fans: "I won't leave college football to the Sherrills and Switzers of the world." LOOK WHO'S TALKING NOW, YOU JOKE!!!!!

Oh yeah...If PSU doesn't win 6 games and head to the pre-Christmas Thrifty Car Rental Ford Pinto Bowl with that schedule, I'll eat my hat. USF, Cincy, Central Michigan, Illini, MichSt, and NW are gimmes.
