bdftbllham55,

That is the post of the year! This post convinces me of what WPIAL TITAN has suspected all along. Nit fans are completely brainwashed.

PSU/Michigan State fabricated rivalry pales greatly in comparison to the Pitt/PSU rivalry that once was. Heck, why not call Central Florida a rivalry as well. I will agree that OSU/PSU is a natural rival because of the bordering states, but it ends there. Neither of these rivalries compare to the old days of Pitt/PSU. Those of us that grew up with the rivalry know that you don't understand.

TAE, hate to say this, but Boise State- Georgia won't be as good a game as Pitt- Notre Dame. Why? I'll take Georgia by AT LEAST a TD and FG, if not 2 TDs. Boise State is overrated just because they play in the weakest conference this side of the Sun Belt and manage to beat Fresno State (also overrated) each year. Yes, Fresno State barely beat a 6-5 Virginia team in some borderline bowl game. Big whoop de do. Georgia is a legitimate top ten team that will probably get at least 8 wins, if not more, and Boise State is still way overrated.

That said, I still think all the Pitt-ND hype is probably more about the coaches than the actual teams.

The Ohio State rivalry has become very big. The Michigan State one I believe was fabricated a bit as well but has become pretty nice. Why was that one fabricated? Well PSU wants OSU to be the rival in my opinion. Mich State wants Mich to be theirs. The problem is that Mich and OSU are the two biggest so the other game is 2nd tier to them. For PSU, the OSU game has become the biggest...bigger than Mich for the Nits in my opinion.

One advantage of the PSU-MSU rivalry is that all fans can wear "I HATE STATE" T-shirts!!!

I agee but also respectfully disagree. While coaching is a part of the storyline, both of these programs are also at somewhat crucial junctures in their histories.

Last season, Pitt was largely viewed as mildly successful by the national media. They were the top team in a conference going through a dramatic transition phase. This year, with the addition of several mid-major football programs (with a couple exceptions), Pitt's conference schedule should result in a couple more wins. But will more wins in a weaker conference with a heralded coach with an unimpressive NFL record (82-86) help the Panthers turn the corner and make the big time?

Notre Dame on the other hand should be considered a down program that has been set back a few years by the former coaching staff's commitment to a futile offensive system. This is a crucial point in Notre Dame's history. As a team that has enjoyed mediocrity for over 10 year and selling tickets by reputation only, ND's new administration is going all out to give Charlie Weis everything he needs to win. The Irish need to do something on the field in the present and not rely totally on its past - that can only take you so far.

Where did I hear that, Sportscenter you moron. The fans voted, and my God, they spoke!

Sensitive, sensitive. Guess I must have proven my point. Sportscenter and the fans have spoken. All those under age 25 with access to a computer and have experienced little in life are now ruling the sports universe.

Apparently ESPN finds that they are the ones that decide on those situations. It's the fans that decide what makes anything tick correct? So I'd say that thier voice is the loudest and strongest thing you can go by, and they don't think much of Pitt.
