Moldo made a good point about Longstreet.

Four retired Generals of various rank wrote an excellent op-ed piece in the Wall Street Journal today defending Rumsfeld and pretty much blasting those several Generals who spoke out.

The op-ed piece was written by retired Lt. Gen. John Crosby, former deputy commanding general of the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command; retired Lt. Gen. Thomas McInerney, former assistant vice chief of staff of the U.S. Air Force; retired Maj. Gen. Buron Moore, U.S. Air Force, who was director of Central Command during Operation Desert Storm; and retired Maj. Gen Paul Vallely, former deputy commander of the U.S.. Army, Pacific.

Their opinion, what really is at work is the critics are (and have been) upset with Rumsfeld's reorganization of the military:

"Much of the acrimony expressed by Secretary Rumsfeld's military critics appears to stem from his efforts to 'transform' the military by moving to a joint expeditionary force that is lighter and more mobile in nature to meet the nation's current and future threats," the article said.

Rumsfeld also drew support from retired Lt. Gen. Michael DeLong, the former deputy chief of U.S. forces in the Middle East. Writing in The New York Times, DeLong said the generals were wrong to blame Rumsfeld for the problems the United States now faces in Iraq, "and when they do so in a time of war, the rest of the world watches."

Right there. That statement right there should say it all.

Just like in Vietnam. How many more soldiers have died because statements like these 6 Generals have made embolden our enemy, DURING A TIME OF WAR!

Iran's President Amdjadjkhdfhjkiuykerjklhd (or something like that), said yesterday that the US may start a war with Iran, but we don't have the backbone to finish it. I wonder where he gets that idea from??????

Unfortunately, he's probably right.

You people screaming about this war today, would probably have said Hitler should've stayed in power before the Holocost - I'm not suggesting ANYONE would think that after what he did was revealed.

These generals have said nothing about backing out of the war. Don't you think they want to stop the insurgency and stabilize Iraq? These guys have been in Iraq or are certainly in the know about what has gone on there. They want to win and believe the only way we can do so is to replace Rumsfeld.

The assumption is also being made that because some of us are against this war that we are against all wars. You make it sound that we are pro-Hitler. I have said before that attacking Afghanistan and the Taliban was the right thing to do. I have also said that if Iran continues to force the issue of nuclear weapons that force would be a viable option. I can't imagine why I would have been against WWII after we were attacked and had war declared on us first. Now if we had gone to war against Australia instead of Japan, I would have been against that as well.

Do you guys honestly believe Rumsfeld is doing a good job? You really don't believe that we could benefit from a change in leadership in that position?

A General Gripe
By Madeleine Begun Kane

Some Gen'rals are filling our ears,
With Rummy critiques and Bronx cheers.
What a shame they're so late,
And didn't join the debate
Before Bush got another four years.

War Against The Generals
By Madeleine Begun Kane

Some Gen'rals say Rummy must go.
So I'm guessing they're traitors and foes.
Soon we'll hear that they're pals
With bin Laden, et al.
Or much worse, that they're Democrat bro's.

Say is not what the generals saying very similar to what Congressman Jack Murtha has said? They must hate the USA too.

During a Time of War where the party in power runs up a record budget deficit. Do we have rationing of any kind? A war without sacrifices unless you count blood.

DURING A TIME A WAR.... DURING A TIME OF WAR. LP how dare you hide behind that you coward. What sacrifices have you made? Do you need directions to the recruiters? Be brave and quit hiding behind your keyboard. Show us the strength of your convictions.

Iran has sworn to destroy Israel. WHEN, not IF, they get their nukes, they will not hesitate to use them. As Israel's main ally, what do we do then? Say sorry boys, we have our own hands full and don't want to get involved? I don't think so. What happens then? The very minute we go to Israel's aid, the ENTIRE ARAB world will be taking shots at us. We ain't seen nuthin' yet. Tell me I'm wrong to think this way, but I say go ahead and let Iran develop their few nukes. I also say we should then give them the ultimatum that if they use ANY of them, against Israel or the US and allies, that they WILL become a giant glass skating rink in the middle east. A few nukes vs a few THOUSAND. Sounds like an equitable solution to me. They punch, we counterpunch. That way the entire world sees and knows who the real troublemakers are, and who the 'peacekeepers" are. Remember the old Colt "Peacekeeper"? Great in its day. Served the purpose.

Frostlion, you have no idea how much that little phrase means. When Bush told everybody how Saddum was behind 9-11, the world was watching. They were also watching when he later had to back down from that after it was proved that he had no part. The world was watching when Bush talked about WMD, and they were also watching when after three years (and counting), they found none. The world was watching when Bush was talking about freeing the people of Iraq, while thousands of people were being slaughtered in Africa, and we did nothing to help them. The world is watching us, and they do not like what they see.

Well, keep in mind, that is not my quote, it was the quote from the op-ed piece written by the four generals in the Wall Street Journal.

I for one could give a crap what the rest of the world or the United Nations thinks about American foreign policy, George W. Bush, or anything else for that matter. They could take a ditch witch, carve out that entire communist-loving, dictator-loving UN building, and let it sink into the Hudson River for all I care.

I care when politicians in very safe seats, like Hillary Clinton from her throne in NY, Ted "The King of Massachusetts" Kennedy, that moron-loser Al Gore, Hollywood actors, idiots in the press, and Monday morning quarterback generals make statements that could possibly undermind the morale of troops, possibly putting lives in danger.

We had an election in this country in 2004. It was well established that WMD had not been found, and everyone knew it. Bush clearly articulated that we as a nation would be in Iraq for as long as it would take and the costs could possibly be high. John Kerry and his party said absolutely nothing of substance to distance himself from Bush. Iraq was the issue. America voted. Bush won.

I'll add one thing to my original post: gotta love these people who are running around the country protesting at soldiers funerals....

Really classy...

Was the world watching when we gave to the Tsunami disaster? Was the world watching when the twin towers went down? Were they watching each and every time we bail out people from earthquakes? Were they watching when millions of Iraqi's voted for the first time? How about when we didn't interfere with Israel giving back part of their land to the Palastinians? Did they see the food for oil scam at the UN? What do they see, fleaflicker?

Well, regardless of what we do to help other countries, you and I both know that negative actions and insults stick in the mind much longer than positive ones. So what if we help out poor countries in earthquakes? How many other countries do that?

But how many countries out there declare war without just cause and produce a whole $h!tload of pollution and don't seem to give a rat's @$$ about the consequences for the rest of the world? I can name one, and it is the same country that I currently reside in.

Just as a note: I gotta agree with frostlion on the people going around and protesting at funerals. When people fight and die in the military, they deserve some respect. It doesn't mean I have to agree with the administration that sent them to war, but get a grip people.....
