Not in the near future. ND's new president seems like he's all for reviving the old ND football-first attitude. He was key in firing Willingham and appreciates the football program for what it is... a cash engine and the most visible component of the university.

Aside from that ND has renewed its commitment to the Big East in olympic sports. When all those teams left for the ACC, ND stood in and basically said they were happy there. Even in football they agreed to schedule more BE opponents (up to 4, i think).

The opportunity for them to leave was a year ago, at this point, I cant see it happening.

Fair enough. Some people here cannot appreciate that scheduling is in part a function of money.

I for one would love to see ND in the Big Ten, and given that they schedule on an annual basis Michigan, Michigan State and Purdue, and now with the PSU series renewed, they would seem like the best fit. ND could still keep their traditional rival of USC as an out of conference opponent, along with the service academies.

I believe I once read that Michigan is the big obstacle on the Big Ten side....

HardCoreFan, I never meant to insinuate that the game would not be good, or looked forward to. Like I said, you know that after that bowl debacle against OSU, Weis has been watching Tom Bradley's tendencies for awhile, since ND has a shot to showcase a Heisman candidate QB against a BCS winner that may have a weakened secondary.

The great thing about college football is that every team loses a lot of players every year. Even when you return 17 lettermen, that's only POTENTIAL for being good, and is really nothing more than a percentage versus your opposition in how well you MAY do. That's why its hard to say that last year's results are a great indication of how the team will do a year later. With that logic, Reggie McNeal and Reggie Ball should have been Heisman contenders the past 3 seasons. Anything can and will happen in college football, and the frontrunners rarely ever end up with national titles, BCS bids, or even conference titles.

Back to PSU and ND though, I don't think ND has as much potential for success this season as other people think they do. They'll win their share of games, but by no means are we looking at ND as a national title contender.

Jimmy Clausen's mechanics as a quarterback are very good. But is he any better than Powlus or anyone else? The media has REALLY been getting involved in recruiting lately, and it's getting pretty ridiculous. Sure LeBron ended up doing pretty well, but he's still missed dozens of shots in game-winning situations, and there are just as many HS busts as there are HS to college or HS to pro success stories.

How much was deal worth between the Big East and the NEC to play an annual football series for the next 35 years? "Virginia Tech leaving 2 years ago has really affected our scheduling for 2028. Pittsburgh will, as always, play host to IUP Punxatawney who may or may not have a football program."

Hey, rumor has it Seton Hill and St. Vincent's have announced intentions to start football programs. You guys better hurry up and get them scheduled. We wouldn't want you to have to make a phone call to the Sun Belt, so that you could possibly play a legitimate I-A opponent. Better stick to the NAIA. I also heard the Gannon campus is really nice in the fall.
