I agree with Southpaw that all county cools have a great fan-base. Of course, they all rise and fall with the success of their wrestlers. Ridge and Northern have been consistantly good for the past decade +/- some years, so their fan-bases have been huge, energetic crowds. And certainly both have their share of very nice people and jerks. It's disappointing to see the abscence of the young NBC crowd that always came to support Reasy, Swindell, Suter, Kilgore, and the rest.
Hyndman's fan base has been so grand in recent years that you would think that the entire community is there. It's a shame to them lose students/athletes to Bedford who, of course, always has a great fan base as well.
Tussey and Everett, though they have the smallest crowds, have seen a growth in recent years, I believe.
It is quite evident that the team makes a big difference in what the crowd support is like. The Bedford county schools make up the better part of the top of the district and their crowds are larger. The two Somerset county schools that do well (NS and Berlin) are the two schools with comparable crowds.

One other thought...
Jeff Beech has really matured and gotten better as a referee in the past 4-5 years. He may not be the best one out there, but I really had few complaints about him as a coach this year. Years ago, I had a long list of them. I say "kudos" to Jeff for really working to improve his reffing. I believe he has the best asset a referee can have too and that is impartiality.

This thread is hilarious. I only have this to say about it...... sit back and just watch how the Ridge assistant coaches act during a match....there are 2 in particular I'm thinking of....

All coaches work the refs for calls. Thats part of the job description. But i would have to agree that Ridge probably is the loudest in the county when it comes to arguing for calls.
Course when you have more coaches then most county schools have wrestlers people will say that.
Scott McGill did win D5 assistant coach of the year. (shared w/NS) But the officials probably didn't have any say in it. 8)

I agree 100%. When I'm in the corner, I know that I have a huge influence on the refs calls. Now if it's Muss, then the influence means, "the more I yell, the less calls I get." However with most refs, if you are yelling "that's stalling, he has to return him," you are putting the thought in the refs head and providing a valid argument. It is often successful. If nothing else, you have him paying attention to what you want him paying attention to.

i have to chuckle when i read the posts from bedford county fans complaining about how rude n.s. fans are. every school has rude fans .do i detect a little envy or jealousy on the part of bedford county fans. is it because little n.s. has won districts 7 out of the last 8 years. during the 90's when bedford had that great run [ i wish there would have been state duels then because some of those bedford teams would have placed ] it seemed like everyone at districts rooted for bedford to lose. now that feeling seems to be directed at n.s. well boys and girls n.s. has 9 wrestlers who placed fourth or better at districts coming back next year so i guess you better start warming up your boo's for next year

How about the NBC Fans this year at districts!!! Its usually NS who are the most annoying, but i think every NBC fan has their officials card.[/quote] I totally agree - the fans from Northern are becoming the most obnoxious in area. They are the biggest ball-babies I have seen in quite a few years. The things they are saying in a match are very very annoying.......It is to the point where I can't stand to watch a NBC match. I hope everyone starts giving back to them what they deserve. times 10!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
