well, back to the topic at hand ladies....


changing the rules of the game is an absurd idea... first, if you want to do that, it's cause you're a wimp... if you can't handle 90 of a beautiful game specked with some goals, then go play that sorry excuse of a sport they call football...

now that i've gotten that out, MLS.... first of all... MLS sucks... period... compared to UEFA, they stink... majorly... you put the best team in the MLS against some of the worst teams in Europe, the MLS team would lose... it is getting better tho, for which i am thankful.

wrong freak... DC united killed Celtic a couple years ago, and they hung pretty tough with Man U if memory serves correctly...

last season d.c united beat real madrid 2-1 in an exibition game. This season the MLS allstars are taking on chelsea one of the best teams in european soccer. So you tell me that the MLS is the worst excuse for soccer you've ever seen. Also US players do not have the age and experience of uefa or premiership teams.

First of all, the argument that MLS teams beat the best European teams is bogus. These games take place out of season for the European teams and they often use mostly reserves because their stars spend the offseason resting.

Secondly, to say that soccer is a minor sport in America is absurd. It is not at the level of the big 3 (football, baseball, and basketball) but it is definitely in the same ballpark as hockey.

Basically, I think there is a chance that soccer will become a big sport in the US, but it is still on the way. If you look back 60-70 years, the three biggest sports in the US were baseball, boxing and horseracing. Obviously, this has changed. Basketball has really only become a big sport in the past 40 years. Professional soccer is not a big spectator sport, but there are tons of kids who play soccer. This was also the case with basketball and football at one time. They grew because people played the sports and they became spectator sports. I think it is likely that soccer will remain a second-tier sport, but there is no way to say for sure.

By the way, any arguments about scoring are ignorant. For me, the lack of scoring adds to the excitement because the importance of any goal is magnified and the game can be drastically altered at any moment.

Beckham's first game has come and gone i watched for a little and i am still not intrested.

Soccer is BIG just not here and i hardly seeing it change by one washed up player

but i will give you soccer is a real sport

Nascar it is not a sport and never will be its a complete joke to me that its even covered by Sportscenter and ESPN but thats another argument


but a suggestion for the rule change shorten the field a little shorten the time a little maybe that would increse some intrest not for me but maybe some people

Soccer is going to be big in The US... in the past ten years soccer moved up to the second biggest sport in America and it has been the biggest sport in the world for id say a long time ...some time in the future soccer is going to be bigger than football... and what better fans for the MLS than soccer players!? It would help a lot also if our national team could kick some butt in the world cup... which i also see happening in the future =) soccer is gunna make a uprising no matter how much certain people don't want to believe it... its going to happen! and why the heck would anyone want to change the rules???!!!

I'd love to know what sports soccer is ahead of. Does the ranking not include NFL, PGA, WPGA, tennis, NASCAR, NBA, NCAA Football, NCAA Basketball, the NHL, the AFL, or MLB?

Soccer is the #1 sport in participation, meaning more people play organized soccer than any other sport. I think baseball is actually higher for boys than soccer.

Soccer is definitely a second tier sport right now and MLS will never compete with the top Euro leagues. Many US soccer fans (myself included) barely pay attention to it. I have watched 20 times as many Premier League and Champions League matches as MLS and I think many soccer fans are similar.

I think the future for soccer in America is good because of the popularity of the sport worldwide and the general impact of globalization on all things - (I can get decent sushi in Altoona, for example). I wouldn't be surprised if 50 years from now basketball and soccer have grown and baseball and football have declined.
