Re: Obama position on failed abortions
Ctindian, I am not sure where to begin. As a Christian I'm sure you are aware that man made laws will not always correspond completely with your faith. So in your argument above you appear to be going against your faith to support a man who is in favor of partial birth abortion, because the law you study tells you it is not your place to make the decision for someone else. However, as a devout Christian, as you call yourself, it is your place to stand up against a man such as Obama, and not make excuses in order to show support for him. Not to mention, abortion is only one of the issues that Christians have with him. How about the sanctity of marriage? I am sure your faith tells you that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. There are only two candidates in this race that support this morally correct value, and they are McCain/Palin.I'm not a liberal. I voted for Bush in 00 and 04 and I'm a devout Christian. I am personally against abortian but I have also studied law for a long time, and since there is no law stating a child becomes a human at conception, it was left as a gray area and left to the courts. As a man who has studied law, I believe that we are constituationally obligated leave that choice to the people. I would condemn it and would never let that happen in my family, but to prevent someone else from making that choice with their family is not my place.
Staying on the Christian theme, I do not know how you can justify supporting Obama given his history. It is proven that he comes from a Muslim background, and as Ridgedad mentioned, spent 20 years worshiping with, and learning from, the radical Jeremiah Wright (and he is anything but a Christian). Also, you say that you do not like McCain’s temper. First of all, when have actually seen him blow up, scream and yell, and throw things? I have watched him a lot, and although he may get a little irritated at times, I have never seen a violent temper. Secondly, there was only one man to walk this earth who was perfect, and as you know that was Jesus Christ, and even he got angry.
You also mentioned about Sarah Palin not being qualified to be President. I too would like to know why you feel Obama is. What has he done to make him so much more qualified? Let me answer that... Nothing, but nobody talks about it, they (the main stream liberal media) just want to pick on Palin. Think of it this way, if our country's enemies were casting their vote for the POTUS, out of the 4 candidates running, Obama would be the overwhelming winner. That is very scary, true, but scary. So when McCain asked you to vote for a safe America, he had good reason.
I can accept, not agree with, but accept your not agreeing with the views of the McCain/Palin ticket on the war. However, the rest of your reasoning seems extremely weak. It sounds like you are more against Sean Hanity then McCain. It saddens my heart to see a devout Christian openly showing their support for Obama. It just doesn't have a good feel. I certainly do not claim to be a political expert, as I am not, however as a fellow Christian I hope you will reconsider your decision to support Barack Obama.

Okay, as far as man made laws and respecting them, it clearly states in the bible in Romans 13 that "Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves." So you see, you cant just say that becuase I am a Christian i have to support the candidate who is pro life. No..we have to respect the authority of government and the laws that are made in order to live right by God. The laws of our country (a country founded on Christian principles, no less) are set up so that when it comes to the gray areas and the controversial disagreements, we as citizens should be self-governing enough to make those tough decisions on our own.
As far as marriage being between a man and a woman, it is a BOLD FACED LIE to say that McCain and Palin are the only two candidates in this election who support this morally correct value. Both Barack Obama and Joe Biden have stated that they both disagree with gay marriage and believe that marriage should be reserved for a man and a woman. What they support is letting those who choose to engage in homosexual relationships to still be allowed certain civil rights that we give to married couples, namely hospital visitation, et cetera. So please get your facts straight
Furthermore..it is not proven, in fact it has been disproven that Obama comes from a muslim background. His father was Kenyan and a Muslim to boot, sure...but the people who raised him (his mother and grandparents) were also devout Christians raising him in Biblical teachings and instilling family values that he still holds to this day. He went to school in Indonesia for 4 years in Jakarta (the largest and most new-aged city in Indonesia) but that doesnt make him muslim; I've gone to school with many atheists and agnostics and likewise, they;ve gone to school with me, but that doesnt mean that any of hold the same religious views as the other. Like i said earlier, it was said that Obama attended wrights church about once every other month or so....so assuming maybe 9 times a year...doesnt really make him a full member. And furthermore, what is it with Republicans and their guilt by Association? John McCain was involved in the Keating Five scandal and yet i never hear anyone talk about that unlessed the issue is forced by bringing up Wright. And as far as McCain's temper goes...just look on YouTube or Metacafe for like "McCain Temper" or something related and you will find countless videos of him blowing up and cursing at people, walking off stage in a fit of rage and knocking things over. And yes, his campaign DID admit (after dismissing a youth questions pastor at a McCain event as inappropriate) that when McCain was running for senate re-election he did call his wife a c*nt, which is not very christianlike at all....i would never call my wife that...EVER.
I have been to Iraq and I have been to afghanistan and worked for countless months with soldiers on the ground level. McCains been there what, like 3 times? I know numerous US soldiers from all walks of life and all parts of the world who completely support Obama. A slew of current and former Army Generals threw their support behind him becuase they knew he had the right ideas, including Sec. of State Colin Powell
And finally, to my favorite topic and an oft questioned one...the qualifications bit. Sarah Palin served as mayor of Wasilla, AK for 6 years. So, sure...she had some executive experience by being the mayor of less than 10,000 people for 6 years. And then she went into Anchorage and won (with a very heftily funded campaign by the Alaska Independence Party) the seat of Governor, a seat she has held for not even 2 whole years. Her education includes stints at four different colleges that she transferred between before finally receiving her degree in the most cop-out (no offense to journalists) of majors...communications. That is the extent of her resume for POTUS, an office she so clearly aspires to.
Now for Barack Obama: He attended and graduated from Columbia University in NY with a degree in political science. He then furthered his resume for politics by graduation from Harvard Law School (the school of many presidents) and became the first black president of the Harvard Law Review. He then worked for two law firms in Chicago before returning to Harvard and graduating Magna Cum Laude and earning a Juris Doctorate. He then taught Constituation Law (the fundamentals of our government) for 12 years at the University of Chicago Law School. He served on the Illinois senate for 7 years and in 2004 was elected to be one of the 100 members of our country's senate. Obama sponsored the Secure America Bill on the US senate and more importantly (and in contrast with how McCain tries to paint him) he sponsored the act that led to the creation of USAspending.gov (a site that gives full transparency to congressional spending) and he introduced the Iraq War de-escalation act that every soldier I know was in favor of but that those who don't think for our country voted against.
So in obvious contrast, Barack Obama has been a part of the core of government since 1997. He served on the senate in a state whose demographics can be closely compared to those of our nation and he served on our senate for the last 4 years. He has a history of government in politics and is extremely educated on the governmental processes. The most important thin about Obama is that he is from Washington but he hasn't been changed by Washington. He has a consistent voting record (one that you may not always agree with) and he knows how to get people actively involved in our country's future (just ask the millions of people who have donated even the slightest amounts that they could afford and contributed their time and energy to his campaign becuase they know he can help shape the future they want.
Palin, on the other hand, has served as a small town mayor and has had a brief stint serving as the governor of the third-smallest (population-wise) state in America. During which time she courted and was involved in the group trying to get Alaska seceded from the US. She has no experience in Washington and she is more uneducated than any person who has ever run for POTUS or VPOTUS. Watching her interviews with Katie Couric and watching her answers at debated will easily show you thats she is uneducated on our government, doesnt give straight answers to questions (becuase she doesnt know the answers) and tries to bring the subject back to her scripted talking points that were force fed to her by McCains campaign while she was locked away behind closed doors preparing for her debate.
I'm sorry, but Sarah Palin is not even near being as qualified as Obama to be president. And the fact of the matter is, come election day the majority of America will make their decision based on which ticket is better equipped to handle the state of our country. And the answer to that questions, my friends (as John McCain loves to say) is Obama/Biden
You said that
and to that I say: why would I hide my support for someone who I believe can guide us to a solution to our problems. I also would like to say that I live in a very conservative area with many churches and many Christians and everywhere i go for one McCain/Palin sign, there are 2-3 Obama/Biden signs which just goes to show you that just because you're a Christian, does not mean you support John McCainit saddens my heart to see a devout christian openly showing their support for Obama

Don't where you come from ct indian but down on this side of the mountain I see one Obamanation sign for every 10 for McCain. If your area is so conservative how has Murtha survived 30+ years. Are you going to finally vote this bum out?

Re: Obama position on failed abortions
Some of the things Murtha has done are more than questionable, but dont go calling people bums just because they dont share your views. John Murtha, for as many stupid comments he may have made, is almost single-handedly responsible for bringing and keeping thousands of jobs to johnstown: CTC, Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin, DRS, Joyce Murtha Cancer Center, MetLife and the list goes on. So no, I will not vote against someone who has been keeping our economy alive. You can choose Russel all you want but his platform is baseless and his promises are empty
I live just around the Moxham/Ferndale area on the Somerset/Cambria border...and Obama signs are everywhere.
Actually hey...you know what....i just want to prove a point here. Only in politics and only with right wing conservatives do you hear such absolutely ridiculous and childish namecall. Obamanation? Seriously? You must eat sleep and drink conservite talk radio....i'm sorry but that is hysterical.

1. Obama's experience is not nearly as glamorous as you paint it. You didn't address the voting of "Present" on many difficult issues. What the hell is that vote anyway?
2. Please don't try to make J-town into this thriving metropolis that it's not. J-town has been on the decline for many years. Have you ever considered that maybe it's because of Murtha? Sure, his pork barrel projects that are GOVERNMENT funded bring some jobs to the area, but have you considered that maybe because of his liberal economic policies that private enterprises don't view J-town as a place to go anymore?
3. I have never accused Obama of being a Muslim, but he did attend a Muslim (and a Christian) school growing up. I believe that is where the background thing coming from.
4. Is a college education now the qualifications for being present?
5. Wouldn't we ALL love to see Washington not run the way it has been run? If so, why wouldn't we want someone who has never worked inside the beltway? How's it going to change if we just keep putting the same bums in there, over and over again. Wake up - you aren't going to get change with Obama just because he tells you that.

Re: Obama position on failed abortions
Heres is my only response to that....according to your line of thinking....
Brian Schweitzer, the Governor of Montana, whose state boast the nations 6 smallet population and borders Canada and whose demographics do not accurately represent the demographs of our country. The governor of that state who has only been Governor for less than three years and has not served in Washington, is qualified to be president?
Or Governor Michael Rounds of South Dakota, the 4th smallest state in the country that, once again, has a population of people who have not shared in a lot of the same hardships as most americans.
No...its an absurd notion and I am willing to bet that you got that talking point from the conservative media. But here's the problem. 25 of the 42 presidents we have had have been lawyers, men who studied law and were elected becuase of their strong legal background. 16 of the other 17 were all members of congress at some point. These two stats go to show you that every president with the exception of one George W. Bush had a history of law and politics on the national level before becoming the President of the United States.
Sarah Palin is uneducated and uninformed when it comes to American Politics and the American Law Process. I know its often used by the democrats and I almost feel bad saying so. But putting Palin in office would cause the same disastrous results as putting bush in office.
Oh, and before you insult me by keying in on the fact that I said 42 presidents...i know i did, and i meant it. Grover Cleveland served non-consecutive terms hence, 43 presidencies and 42 presidents

Re: Obama position on failed abortions
CT here is another Christian prospective from Huntley Brown - a fabulous concert pianist, a man of God and a black man. I appreciate so much his reasoning for not voting for Obama. I can not take credit for these words they are Mr. Browns, I received this as an e-mail and wanted to share it. It's good stuff!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Why I Can't Vote For Obama
By Huntley Brown
Dear Friends, A few months ago I was asked for my perspective on Obama, I sent out an email with a few points. With the election just around the corner I decided to complete my perspective. Those of you on my e-list have seen some of this before but it's worth repeating...
First I must say whoever wins the election will have my prayer support. Obama needs to be commended for his accomplishments but I need to explain why I will not be voting for him.
Many of my friends process their identity through their blackness. I process my identity through Christ. Being a Christian (a Christ follower) means He leads I follow. I can't dictate the terms He does because He is the leader.
I can't vote black because I am black; I have to vote Christian because that's who I am. Christian first, black second. Neither should anyone from the other ethnic groups vote because of ethnicity. 200 years from now I won't be asked if I was black or white. I will be asked if I knew Jesus and accepted Him as Lord and Savior.
In an election there are many issues to consider but when a society gets abortion, same-sex marriage, embryonic stem-cell research, human cloning to name a few, wrong economic concerns will soon not matter.
We need to follow Martin Luther King's words, don't judge someone by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. I don't know
Obama so all I can go off is his voting record. His voting record earned him the title of the most liberal senator in the US Senate in 2007.
NATIONAL JOURNAL: Obama: Most Liberal Senator in 2007 (01/31/2008)
To beat Ted Kennedy and Hillary Clinton as the most liberal senator, takes some doing. Obama accomplished this feat in 2 short years. I wonder what would happen to America if he had four years to work with.
There is a reason Planned Parenthood gives him a 100% rating. There is a reason the homosexual community supports him. There is a reason Ahmadinejad, Chavez, Castro, Hamas etc. love him. There is a reason he said he would nominate liberal judges to the Supreme Court. There is a reason he voted against the infanticide bill. There is a reason he voted No on the constitutional ban of same-sex marriage. There is a reason he voted No on banning partial birth abortion. There is a reason he voted No on confirming Justices Roberts and Alito. These two judges are conservatives and they have since overturned partial birth abortion. The same practice Obama wanted to continue.
Let's take a look at the practice he wanted to continue
The 5 Step Partial Birth Abortion procedures:
A. Guided by ultrasound, the abortionist grabs the baby's leg with forceps. (Remember this is a live baby)
B. The baby's leg is pulled out into the birth canal.
C. The abortionist delivers the baby's entire body, except for the head.
D. The abortionist jams scissors into the baby's skull. The scissors are then opened to enlarge the hole.
E. The scissors are removed and a suction catheter is inserted. The child's brains are sucked out, causing the skull to collapse. The dead baby is then removed.
God help him. There is a reason Obama opposed the parental notification law.
Think about this: You can't give a kid an aspirin without parental notification but that same kid can have an abortion without parental notification. This is insane.
There is a reason he went to Jeremiah Wright's church for 20 years.
Obama tells us he has good judgment but he sat under Jeremiah Wright teaching for 20 years. Now he is condemning Wright's sermons. I wonder why now?
Obama said Jeremiah Wright led him to the Lord and discipled him. A disciple is one in training. Jesus told us in Matthew 28:19 - 20 "Go and make disciples of all nations." This means reproduce yourself. Teach people to think like you, walk like you; talk like you believe what you believe etc. The question I have is what did Jeremiah Wright teach him?
Would you support a White President who went to a church which has tenets that said they have a ...
1. Commitment to the White Community
2. Commitment to the White Family
3. Adherence to the White Work Ethic
4. Pledge to make the fruits of all developing and acquired skills available to the White Community.
5. Pledge to Allocate Regularly, a Portion of Personal Resources for Strengthening and Supporting White Institutions
6. Pledge allegiance to all White leadership who espouse and embrace the White Value System
7. Personal commitment to embracement of the White Value System.
Would you support a President who went to a church like that?
Just change the word from white to black and you have the tenets of Obama's former church. If President Bush was a member of a church like this, he would be called a racist. Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton would have been marching outside.
This kind of church is a racist church. Obama did not wake up after 20 years and just discovered he went to a racist church. The church can't be about race. Jesus did not come for any particular race. He came for the whole world.
A church can't have a value system based on race. The churches value system has to be based on biblical mandate. It does not matter if it's a white church or a black church it's still wrong. Anyone from either race that attends a church like this would never get my vote.
Obama's former Pastor Jeremiah Wright is a disciple of liberal theologian James Cone, author of the 1970 book A Black Theology of Liberation. Cone once wrote: "Black theology refuses to accept a God who is not identified totally with the goals of the black community. If God is not for us and against white people, then he is a murderer, and we had better kill him.
Cone is the man Obama's mentor looks up to. Does Obama believe this?
So what does all this mean for the nation?
In the past when the Lord brought someone with the beliefs of Obama to lead a nation it meant one thing - judgment.
Read 1 Samuel 8 when Israel asked for a king. First God says in 1 Samuel 1:9 "Now listen to them; but warn them solemnly and let them know what the king who will reign over them will do."
Then God says
1 Samuel 1:18 " When that day comes, you will cry out for relief from the king you have chosen, and the LORD will not answer you in that day." 19 But the people refused to listen to Samuel. "No!" they said. "We want a king over us. 20 Then we will be like all the other nations, with a king to lead us and to go out before us and fight our battles." 21 When Samuel heard all that the people said, he repeated it before the LORD. 22 The LORD answered, "Listen to them and give them a king."
Here is what we know for sure.
God is not schizophrenic
He would not tell one person to vote for Obama and one to vote for McCain. As the scripture says, a city divided against itself cannot stand, so obviously many people are not hearing from God.
Maybe I am the one not hearing but I know God does not change and Obama contradicts many things I read in scripture so I doubt it.
For all my friends who are voting for Obama can you really look God in the face and say; Father based on your word, I am voting for Obama even though I know he will continue the genocidal practice of partial birth abortion. He might have to nominate three or four Supreme Court justices, and I am sure he will be nominating liberal judges who will be making laws that are against you. I also know he will continue to push for homosexual rights, even though you destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah for this. I know I can look the other way because of the economy.
I could not see Jesus agreeing with many of Obama's positions. Finally I have two questions for all my liberal friends.
Since we know someone's value system has to be placed on the nation,
1. Whose value system should be placed on the nation.
2. Who should determine that this is the right value system for the nation?
Blessings, Huntley Brown
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Origins: Huntley Brown is, as described on his web site, a "a Christian concert pianist whose versatile repertoire includes classical, jazz, gospel, reggae and many other styles." An e-mail to Mr. Brown about the item reproduced above, an explanation attributed to him about why he would not be voting for Barack Obama in the 2008 presidential election, drew the following response:
Yes, I wrote this e-mail. I was responding to my friends who asked me to vote for Senator Obama because he is black.
It was not my intention to send it around the world.
I did not post this e-mail or send out any pictures attached. I wish they had not done that.
My friends did not ask me to vote for Senator Mccain which explains why my e-mail was geared towards Senator Obama.
My e-mail was not meant to influence public opinion in any way, but simply to share with my friends my views on why I could not vote for Senator Obama.
I have problems with both candidates, but the differences I have with Senator Mccain are pale in comparison with the ones I have with Senator Obama
For the record, I am not a politician. I am not a Democrat or a Republican. I am a Christian independent who just loves the Lord.
If Senator Obama wins he can count on my prayer support every day.
I tell my friends it's like a family where you have different opinions, but you love each other just the same. I love and appreciate Senator Obama but our views are diametrically opposed.
If I knew my e-mail would have generated this much interest on a national level, I would have left out a few points. I don't want people to think I am against gay people or against people who have had abortions. (I am not) We are all sinners saved by grace but we need to have some absolute laws to govern society or else we will self destruct.
What has really bothered me is our beautiful black women constitute only 6% of the population, yet they comprise 36% of the abortion industry's clientele. Obama has done nothing to stop this. Most people don't know that the leading abortion providers have chosen to exploit us blacks by locating 94% of their abortuaries in urban neighborhoods with high black populations. Obama has done nothing to stop this?
To be honest I can't wait to vote for the first black President but it has to be a person who shares the values I read in the Bible.
Thanks for checking to make sure my e-mail is legit it is.
The sad part is I have been getting hate mail and my family is being harassed. As you can imagine not everyone is happy with my e-mail. God bless you richly.

Re: Obama position on failed abortions
Here are some results from your State Senator from Illinois (Obama). I have not personally verified this info, but if it's even close to being correct, it's pretty troubling...He served on the Illinois senate for 7 years and in 2004 was elected to be one of the 100 members of our country's senate.
Pull out of Iraq?
Perhaps the U.S. should pull out of Chicago?
Body count in the last six months:
221 killed in Iraq.
292 killed (murdered) in Chicago alone.
Also...
State pension fund $44 Billion in debt, worst in country.
Cook County ( Chicago ) sales tax 10.25% highest in country. (Look 'em up if you want).
Chicago school system rated one of the worst in the country.
Who Runs Chicago.......?
Senators: Barack Obama & Richard Durbin, Representative Jesse Jackson Jr., Illinois Gov: Rod Blogojevich, Illinois House leader Mike Madigan, Illinois Atty. Gen. Lisa Madigan (daughter of Mike), Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley (son of Mayor Richard J. Daley)
Of course, they're all blaming each other. However, can't blame Republicans for this mess, there aren't any!
This is the political culture that Obama comes from in Illinois . And he's gonna 'fix' Washington politics for us???

Re: Obama position on failed abortions
no offense, but using other peoples points of view doesnt really help in a situation like this. You see, there are also numerous articles written by white christian leaders who support Barack Obama and think he will lead our country in the right direction.
Obama voted against the born-alive bill becuase it included way more than just the born alive act, including some republican addons what would have all but nullified Roe v Wade
I also want to say..."let he who is without sin cast the first stone"
I know I am convicted of this a lot, but who are to judge a man by his acquantances or where he has been in life and the things that shaped his world view. If a man is a Christian, he is a Christian. Who are you to judge his Character, just the same as who am I to judge John McCains character. Obamas decisions have been political based on what he thinks it constitutionally right for our country. He has sat down and prayed for humility and for guidance in his decision makers with fellow christians many times.
Im sure there are tons of people on this message board who use profanity, who are greedy, who steal or lie, maybe cheat, those people who look at pornography, or even more those people who go to church on sunday but act like anything but chrisitans during the week. Everyone has their faults and everyone is a sinner. And in the Bible it is said that God views all of our sins as sins, no more no less. So dont judge people for their sins, judge them for the things they are trying to do for our country and for the spirit of their heart.
I believe Barack Obama is a good man who wants to do what is right by God and he has the conviction of knowing that as someone placed in power that he has a responsibility to the country that he serves to abide by the laws that have been established accordingly.
I know you disagree with me, and that is fine. I'm sure that on any other day, and on any other topic, I would be more than happy to sit down with you and have coffee together and talk about our lives.
We disagree on who should be president and that is no surprise, as many people do. But please dont let that disagreement turn in to bitterness towards one another. And please dont try to paint the picture that true Christians would vote for McCain becuase that is a very unfair presumption

Re: Obama position on failed abortions
I have seen this argument on another message board I visit, and I asked this same question with no response.ctindian00 wrote: Obama voted against the born-alive bill becuase it included way more than just the born alive act, including some republican addons what would have all but nullified Roe v Wade
Be specific - what are the "addons" that would have nullified Roe v Wade?
This is a liberal talking point, that you like to accuse us conservatives of using. There is no substance to that statement. None.
