Yes, every year the teams who went to the final four should be ranked 1-4 because that is the purpose of the season! Also, it is a coaches poll so the coaches decide it; this isn't rocket science. If you don't like the coaches poll then just ignore it and keep loving your boy Sagarin. He knows math, not basketball (or football), so some would argue that the coaches are definitely more reliable then a statistician. Stats are for losers, just like polls. Who cares if Pitt ended up 4th or 4000th in the polls; the only team that reached the ultimate goal was UCONN.

Does anyone know why the ESPN Coaches poll has a secret ballot for their TOP 25 final season men's basketball poll? This year, 30 of the 31 coaches voting in the final poll voted for UConn as number 1. Who didn't vote for them? Why aren't the votes made public? In fact, a vote to keep the names of the voting coaches ANONYMOUS was narrowly defeated in 2010. Why??? There are several reasons. First of all, most coaches stay too focused on their teams all season long and throughout the Tournament to watch games across the country. So they are not the best judges of teams they don't face during the season. Sportswriters, by virtue of their jobs, are more in tune with teams across the nation. That's what they do for a living, WATCH SPORTS. The other problem with coaches is their loyalty to their conference. Maybe that's why they vote by secret ballot. It makes sense that they might give an "edge" to teams in their conference when voting. After all, the higher their conference teams are ranked, the better these teams may do in recruiting, etc etc. And when you are a million dollar coach, your attitude might be a little flippant when in comes to seriously voting in the polls. In football, every year Steve Spurrier votes for Duke as his #25 team. And why you ask? Because Duke gave Spurrier his first coaching job. And you guys think Sagarin is bad? And since Sagarin has been involved in sports polls for over 25 years, I would think his opinions are far more reliable than coaches who really don't know whats happening outside their conference.

All the rankings are horrible, thats why I said in the past that my own top 25 or yours or Leif Garrett's are all as important as the "real" ones. There's been a lot of a coaches that have even said they never vote and just have GA's vote for them. The system is ridiculous. And here again, someone passed over UCONN who won the national title in a playoff format. Very odd.
