Here's a report from Rivals.com, a site that keeps close tabs on college recruiting, which does not paint a particularly good picture of what is transpiring at Pitt. Not included in the report is the fact Indiana offensive lineman Dan Samuelson has backed out of his commitment to Pitt and reportedly is headed for Nebraska.

Pittsburgh recently had -- and potentially missed -- a golden opportunity to impress a number of its top regional prospects. Hoping to attract a bevy of local recruits during their more personal junior day event, the Panthers did not receive the turnout they anticipated.

Aside from the five current commits in attendance, only two big-time visitors made the trip to campus: four-star offensive lineman Dorian Johnson and four-star wide receiver Robert Foster. Both players are crucial targets for the team, and drawing Foster to the session was imperative, as many analysts believe he'll head out of state. Pitt appears to be the team to beat for Johnson, and having him interact with five previously pledged players only bolsters that cause.

Well to aide my point that Samuelsen was actually a good recruit and better than you thought....I win that regard haha.

Shame to lose the kid, though.

Chavis Rawlins was never coming to Pitt, not surprised he never attended. And Titus Howard is a MAC player. I still feel reasonably comfortable with Boyd,Chapman and obviously Johnson and Foster.

That's twice I've seen it this spring, where daddy has made a kids decision for him. You saw it in Anzalone leaving Ohio State, and now Samuelson. Daddy wanted his kid in the Big Ten and that's all there was to it. Cornhusker football is all there is in that state. Good luck to him.

And how about the state motto: "Bring Something To Do". And of course, the meaning of the University of Nebraska football logo: The "N" stands for knowledge.

I read about Samuelson's recruitment on HuskerOnline last night. Nebraska loved that he was an honor roll student, a member of student council, and active in his church. They called him just a 'good character kid'. Do they realize that their 'good character kid' just RENEGED on a promise to another team??? That he went back on his word to someone else? Heaven forbid he ever gets engaged to be married. He just might up change his mind if someone better comes along.

Maybe you should try doing something on a Friday night rather than worrying about a 17yr old kids decision. Did you know exactly what you wanted to go to college for when you graduated high school at 17? Did you even go to college?

I'm not worrying about Samuelson's decision. The kid and his dad are schmucks. My problem is with Nebraska. They thought Samuelson was a "good character kid"??? C'mon. He betrayed the confidence of a team by accepting a scholarship from them, and then flippantly just left for another team. This is character???? And if the kid was active in his church, didn't he know that "If a man take an oath to bind himself, he shall not violate his word"? And alot of people are winding down late on a Friday night. Reading a little football never hurt anyone on a Friday night. And what difference does it make if I didn't graduate from college?

It's funny how I don't see you post about, Trey Zeigler(Guard who transferred from Central Michigan), Tom Ricketts(Lineman who transferred from Penn State), Hubie Graham(TE who transferred from Wisconsin), Zach Brown (RB who transferred from Wisconsin). See these guys actually played for that team and "fliipantly" changed to another team.

This doesn't count Pitt's roster which is probably filled with kids who originally committed to a team then changed their mind to Pitt as is every college football teams roster. You know why? The kids are 17 and are pressured to make decisions day in and day out.

After that last post, people will be wondering if KIRK went to college. Is stranding your girlfriend at the alter the same as marrying her and then divorcing 3 years later??? Of course not. Then why should reneging on a verbal commitment be the same as transferring from one school to another after spending time at the school you verballed to? What Samuelson did was the same as what Morelli did. He went BACK on a promise to accept a scholarship to play football at Pitt, failing to keep his word. Transferring, like Jeff Hostetler, Travis Ziegler, Hubie Graham and Zach Brown did is 100% totally different. These transfer players KEPT their promise to attend the schools they verballed to. They did not skip out on their commitment to attend their selected university. Now, did they eventually change their mind about the school they attended? Yes. People often change their minds AFTER being exposed to schools, jobs, spouses, etc. If Bolden ever transfers from PSU, it is NOT the same thing as what Samuelson did to Pitt. So, realistically, how can Nebraska call Samuelson a good character kid??? C'mon kirk. You're gonna have to give better examples if you're gonna get your point across. Try again.
